RE: Big jump in kit prices at Tower
Holy moly!! $169 for a US60?? (used to be 125 I think) they must be crazy. I am getting really frustrated with GP's and Towers price increases, they seem opportunistic and downright greedy. I would have bought a US60 AND a reactor within the last year if the prices weren't so high. Their price increases have also put me off OS, and on to ASP. I remember reading an interview with some big wig from Hobbico bragging that their company had never had a fiscal period where they did not make a profit.

I just noticed that nitroplanes has the red one back in stock for $125... I'm still flying mine, its actually a pretty good plane. running an asp .91 two stroke, and its fast, no flutter, an a lot of fun.

That is Great!... Please take some pictures with the cowl off so I can see what you did as I currently have a 90 2stroke in it and think it would be better to have the DLE 20. Flying with the 91 two stroke is a lot of fun, unlimited vertical but hoering is hard with smaller prop and pull out is unimpressive.... so I think you made the right choice with the gasser. by the way, hobby king has some carbon fiber gear for 40 bucks that fits pretty well, and is much taller. It really fits the plane much better. If you like I'll try to take some pics later tongiht, maybe get the part number too.

RE: SERVO Choice for 26-30cc airplane
Get ditigal, here's my experience: 90 size extra, used a weak digital on the rudder, and it held pretty good, with occasional wagging. I then put a strong(er) analog servo on, and had massive wagging, much worse than with the weaker digital (3151 vs 3010) I then switched to a power HD digital servo that had 10Kg-cm of torque, which I think is around 140 oz-in, and have no wagging at all. Unfortunatley I cannot reccomend the power hd servos as mine has developed a bad spot in the pot right at nuetral that makes the servo hunt after a very small disturbance. I too to the horn off, sub-trimmed it to fit on the next spline and all is good,, ,for now. this after only one season. Anyway, I'm convinced that digitals are better because they have more torque available to hold their center

RE: Hitec metal gear servos vs other brands.?
I also thought Power HD was good, until recently. I have a Pwer HD 9110MG servo on the rudder of my 90 size extra. Worked great for almost a year, but now its starting to jitter around nuetral, usually for about 3 or 4 seconds after a quick small bump off center. So I assume the POT is worn... already! shame, because it was a reasonable price, quick and strong, and precise. Wish they would have use more durable pots....

Yep, I need to order the servos soon to take advandage of the $20 off and the free shipping, so I think I'll just get the 3152's unless I hear really good feedback about the airtronics before sunday night. THere is one review on the airtronics site that indicated the gear train would snap if the servo would ever pull full torque, so that kinda turned me off but can you ever really trust an anonymous review?

Need Opinion-Fut 3152 vs Airtronics 94842
Gonna buy some new servos, either the futaba 3152's, or maybe the Airtronics 94842's, both seem like they would do that task, but the airtronics are much faster and stronger, for about the same price. (at 6v) Anyone have anyexperience with the 94842's? I've searched but to no avail. Mostly concerned about speed, and centering accuracy, torque is a bonus for the future, but not really a deciding factor for me between these two servos. Thanks in advance!

RE: Nitro Models Extra 330 90 - 63
I think I'm using the heavy duty dubro clivces with the sliding metal clip, along with the threaded rod control horn on the ailerons, and regular nylon clevices on the elevator. I used a belcranck on the elevator, with the supplied dowel but new rods, I epoxied the heat shrink tubing on and supported the rod with balsa 1/4" squares. There are little tubes in the back of of the fuse that you need to thread the pull pull cables through, they are hard to see but they are there, just keep looking and I think they are pointed out earlier in this thread. I'll be interesed to see if a 91 4 stroke will be okay in this plane. I started wth a 75 2 stroke and it was dissappointing, hence the 91 two stroke now. Good luck!

RE: Nitro Models Extra 330 90 - 63
I'm using the same engine (asp 91), and its plenty fun. Hovers at just over half throttle. You will probably want to think about using a pump or a cline since the fuel tanks is pretty far behind the engine. I use the perry pump. And you will definitely want a stronger servo for the rudder, Im using a Power HD 9110 with 145 oz-in and its pretty good. I tried a 3151, and no good, then a 3010, that was even worse. but the 9110 is working very well. (also, don't use the included horns or clevises, with the 91 two stroke, its very fast and I'ld be worried about flutter) I even kinda want to get another kit to try a DLE 20 in... I think it coudl be okay if the engine compartment is re-built. Let us know how the maiden goes! One more thing, make sure you get some lock washers on the canopy and wing bolts,,,, mine vibrated out without them...

RE: Nitro Models Extra 330 90 - 63
couple tips: throw away the included tank (mine leaked all over making a mess) throw away the included hinges. Other than that, no asembly issues with mine. The gear is very strong, I had a hard landing last weekend that bent the metal legs up and back, but did not rip out the block! I just put them on the vise and straighted them out and kept flying. Its a very fun plane! What engine and servos are you going to use?

Uniflow downside- chop your throttle really fast from full, watch fuel surge into your muffler.... and in my case, dead stick... over and over and over.

I just recieved an order from RC bearings, and they claim ABEC 3 on all their bearings right? but man, they sure don't feel any less sloppy than the old crappy ABEC 1's. Is there any mark on the bearing to verify they are in fact ABEC 3? Also, I noticed that there is 1 less ball in my rear bearing from them than what I pulled out of the engine. Probably no big deal, but interesitng.

Not sure if anyone actually looks at this thread anymore, but last weekend I put an apc 13X9 on the asp .91 (two stroke) and the plane flew great, much much better than the mas 14x6. there was so little engine noise with this prop (running the same RPM as the mas 14x6) that I could hear the air rushing past the airframe, I had unlimited verticle, and a good speed. In Fact, I could even accelerate going verticle. Definetly recommend a bigger than spec'ed 2 stroke for this plane.

RE: Rear bearing stuck on crankshaft
well, I got it off last night. I ended up heating the crankcase up and dropping the cranckshaft/bearing back in the case. After the assembly cooled I just banged it gently against a wood block until finally the bearing started to move... It took a while, but its finally out, and the cranckshaft appears to be still in pristine condition. Man I hope the new bearings are easier to get on then this one was to get off!

Rear bearing stuck on crankshaft
I am trying to transfer the guts of my 46ax to a new cranckase (with new bearings obviously) since a past crash broke off the carb connetion, and I was able to get the sleeve and piston/rod out, along with the crankshsaft but the rear bearing is stuck on the crank. I've already searched but all I really found was someone recommending to take a screwdrive and pry it off which I'm not too excited about. Shouldn't the bearing just slide off? How do I get it off?

Anyone thought about putting the new DLE 20 CC gasser on this? The folks over at Aeroworks are putting it in their extra of the same size and weight, and their airframe looks only marginally stronger than this one. think it will make it fall apart?

RE: bubbles from my cline regulator
yep, I have read that post in the past. I believe I understand what you are saying: Basically there is some parameter that the regulator was designed to that I am out of range on. Parameters for the regulator: Tank pressure Carb suction ratio of carb suction to inlet opening. atmospheric pressure (did I miss anything?) Ppretty much the only things I can resonable modify is the tank pressure by using either muffler pressure of cranckase pressure, and the ratio of suction to inlet opening (by bending the lever) which I am hesitant to do because I'm not sure what I need, more pressure to open or less pressure to open? I suppose I can also change the carb suction by varying the length of fuel line between the regulator and the carb. so can you tell me what the symptoms are of each parameter being out of range? I better get this solved quick because my wife will be pissed if I spent this money on the engine and regulator in vain.

RE: bubbles from my cline regulator
Then something is definetly wrong with my regulator because today I tried it with only enough tubing between the outlet and the carb nipple to keep the two from touching. so the regulator and carb were the absolute minimum distance from eachother. The result: 4 stroking at full throttle-rich, very rich. But when I lift the nose of the model high, it leans out significantly as if the tank were a foot lower than the engine! The only reason I can think of for this is the suction from carb is so great that it holds the plunger open so the carb sees crankcase pressure all the time, negating any regulation. Or maybe the propeller blast atifically increased its sensed atmospheric pressure. I'm getting extremely frustrated and starting to believe that the cline regulator will not work in my application, and I wasted my money on it.

RE: bubbles from my cline regulator
Campgems Its been my experience that a properly tuned engine for flight will give an exhause residue the same color as the fuel in the bottle. If the residue is darkend, or gilttery, that means that your engine is running so lean that it is exceeding the temperature for the breakdown of the oil, or worse yet those gittery particals are shaved off parts of your engine. I can run the engine off crankcase pressure and get a nice rich mixture which happens to be about 10500 rpm. (but unsteady due to bubbles) When I ran it off the muffler pressure, the least I could get was 11100, and black exhaust. (and a smoking engine at the end of the run) (but no bubbles, needle all the way out.)

RE: bubbles from my cline regulator
Okay, so I ran thet engine with just muffler pressure, and no bubbles! but... I couldn't get it rich at all either.... needle all the way out, Black goo all over the plane... a bit mad about that. So for kicks I put the pressure line back on the crankcase, and the bubbles were still there. Whats next? I suppose I should bend the beam higher so that it lets more fuel flow for the same suction?
