RE: Corona 2.4 DSSS v2 use in Old JR Galaxy and Century Radios
Crashed my mini Seawind at a range of 300 ft. with the Corona JR module installed in my Century 7 SS transmitter. Just lost signal and so won't fly this module in my Century 7 again. This same module has worked great in my two JR computerized two stick radios with no glitches. Have heard good things using the Assan module in the older, pre-computer Jr Tx. Flicka5

RE: Navy N3N
ORIGINAL: Mode One Well, that would be easy as pie, excepting I'm repairing a wing of a built and covered airplane and not painting a new one.
That makes it even easier as drag a piece of your old wing with old paint on it over to the old paint store and have them scan your old paint color and mix a pint or quart to match!!!! This will cover any fading of the original paint! I did exactly that for a 1/4 scale Piper Cub wing where the old paint had an "orangey" cast to it and the new paint matched perfectly![;)]![;)][;)]
ORIGINAL: Mode One Who can tell me the color the NAVY Stearmen's were painted? I have to repair a wing for a friend. It is more orange then Cub Yellow. It appears to have been covered in Super Coverite and is not painted.
Check out these images of a restored Navy Stearman I took recently in Sebring, Fl. I believe this is an authenic color. OK, now print off the closeup image and take to a paint store that uses a "color gun" to mix paint and let them scan your print for the yellow color and then mix up some matching paint for you! RE: What do old timers think about 2.4Ghz?
Mental Well Being? Remember when we crashed using PPM/FM or AM or even PCM, we could always claim a "glitch" got me or someone else turned on our freq. and some other fliers would believe us? But, with 2.4, who will believe this convenient excuse? Doesn't sound like a good scenario for an Old Timer's mental health! An assault on his fading physical capabilities![:D][:D]

Is there anyway way to convert these transmitters to 2.4 GHz with a module swap or any way at all with internal circuit changes? I guess the stumbling block is the fixed PCM design and no easy way to switch it to PPM?[:)]

RE: What do old timers think about 2.4Ghz?
Ok, a new JR 2.4 GHz Tx. module will work in my old JR Century 7 single stick FM system and also in my two stick JR 388 computer Tx. if I change the mode from PCM to PPM using the computer control, but how about a Futaba FP-8SSAP PCM noncomputer transmitter. What does it take to convert that beautiful single stick transmitter to 2.4GHz operation? Has anyone done that? [sm=confused.gif][sm=confused.gif]

Is there a Freudian slip there or what??[:)] [:)][:)] Also, is there any excuse for reversed ailerons? As real pilots do, one of the checklist items is to check out control function and direction prior to TO. This was always drummed into our thick skulls before T.O. even with radio control models! Of course, some people who try radio control today don't have any idea what makes an airplane bank right or left and its association with aileron direction! I have even seen club instructors T.O. with ailerons reversed on a students RC model and then blame the neophyte for having his controls reversed. That "Club Instructor" shouldn't have been flying on his own!

RE: Kraft radio Info
[:)]The solution of course is to update an older single stick Tx. to the new spread spectrum world. This I have done with my JR single stick Tx which works great and at a resonable price. This upgrade can also be performed on a Kraft single stick Tx. with a little more work since they don't have an easily repaced module as does the JR. The Kraft radios were built with military grade electronic components which is perhaps one reason they have demostrated such a long service life! Flew Kraft equiptment for 30 years and they were extremely smooth and reliable! Much superior to ACE equiptment![:)][:)]

RE: What do old timers think about 2.4Ghz?
Heh, I got this thread going again with my recent posting above! Take a look at my radio system with images attached. Best of the new and old world technologies combined. An old JR single stick transmitter which has been updated with a spread spectrum 2.4 GHz module and a matching receiver! Love it and never think your expensive radio equiptment from 30 years ago is worthless and obsolete! Can also be done to old Kraft transmitters, the fastest speed radio systems ever designed! Who needs a computer?[:)][:)]

RE: What do old timers think about 2.4Ghz?
ORIGINAL: nxtdoor I am like summerwind; started at 8, am now 50. Built my first radio(Heathkit) if you young ones know that name. Me, I just bought a 72 mhz Futaba 12FG. Still waiting to see what happens with 2.4 in the next year. Not ready to beta test for a manufacturer. I know a lot of people are satisfied it works, but am just a little careful. Have a lot of 72mhz receivers I am not ready to throw out either. Will buy the 2.4 module and receiver when I read enough to satisfy me it's as good as 72mhz. I know this is tempting fate but have never been shot down in over 40 years of flying. As a matter of fact, in that 40 years, have only seen 3 actual shoot downs that were verified. I have seen more mid airs than that! Will adopt in the next year or so as an option to my 72mhz stuff. Sorry, don't own plaid pants. RE: Mwmorial Thread for Jim Messer
For Barbara, Wanted to bring your attention to Reg Heath's English monthly Modelflight web page. The latest issue tells of Jim's passing and refers to earlier monthly links which compile some nice images and narrative of Jim's models particularly after Jim's AMA award this past July. So enjoy these and you will find more links to past articles on Jim and his models if you search the Modelflight archives using "Messer" for the search name. I was instrumental in getting Reg Heath to run Jim's stories and images over the years! Bud Carlson, Sebring http://www.modelflight.regheath.com/clubhouseset.htm
