Kyosho GS15R tuning question
Hi guys some advice would be helpful. I have looked through the forums for a while but thought i would post one for my problem. I bought this car second hand online (Kyosho TR15) for a taste of glow cars!! The car is good but i am not experienced with the tuning of these motors, however it runs! And i have a good concept how glow motors work too. Anyway to start the car bogged down when i hit the throttle from a stand still (it is a two speed) And when idling at running temp there is a fair bit of excess glow fuel on the concrete. I figured that the low end was running too rich and i leaned this out as well as replacing the worn clutch, massive difference. It now takes off quick as well as some good sign of smoke coming from the exhaust. The car also now starts on the first to third pull. The top end i played with as well as it stalled when hitting full throttle, a bogging stall! i wound the high end needle in to lean it out, half a turn or so. The problem is this. The car just halls ass at full throttle, and i love it. Should this car go this quick? I have never owned a glow car? But at this speed i am finding it hard to pick smoke, there is some (i think). I have had 4 tanks on this tuning setting. No problems yet but i dont want to stuff an engine either. Should smoke be easily visible at this higher speed. I want the most out of my car with this engine tuning. I have an engine manual and have spent alot of time online but it seems being the best at tuning your glow motor takes some experience. I have nothing to compare with. Any help would be appreciated.........thanks

TRex motor choice
Hi guys, i am on my third electric heli and have choosen a Trex, i wanted quality this time and this seems to be the heli with the most options. I need a motor for it. Does anyone have any experience with different motors and esc's for this heli. I need good 3d power and reliability from the esc (no glitches). Is there a variation in power with the align motors and are the esc's [;)]of good quality

RE: Align 3200KV v Walkera
Thanks credence, The motor get very hot, and the esc just hot. But apparently this is quite normal for this heli. It has flowen well for two months how it is. But now it wants to pack up?

Align 3200KV v Walkera
Hi guys, i have a Dfly #36 and have lots of fun with it. It has the walkera brushless in it. Recently after i installed the alloy head and re installed all the electronics, during mid flight i start to get a total power cut. It lasts only a split second, but last week it just shut off mid flight and crashed. I run good gear on it with a JR 6 channel RX and good JR TX too. Also a gy401 gyro and good lipos. I think its the walkera speed controller as i dont know what else it would be. There are no loose wires!! Should i look at an Align 3200KV and 25amp esc. Would this have more power than walkera brushless??

Has anyone out there had exerience with the alloy upgrades available for the 36. Are they worth while or are some of the parts a waist of time?

RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 *
I put a futaba GY401 on mine. and have never looked back. The tail lock is superb! I can place the tail right where i want it and it stays put every time. I can violently reverse backwards and the tail is still locked. This is my recommendation if you have the bucks.

My heli flyes very well but i reckon the head is quite sloppy, I look forward to seeing if you find the head upgrades tighten up the head a bit. If they are really good i will get some myself

Alloy Walkera Upgrades
Hi guy's, I own a walkera 36. After replacing the Rx and gyro i am very pleased with this heli. I know i can get alloy upgrades for the rotor head for this heli BUT i dont know where? It seems i cant track the blades well no matter what i seem to do. This maybe due to foam blades or the slop it has round the blade grips and feathering shaft. So the questions i have are. Are the upgrades worth while, are SOME of the upgrades a waist of time? and where can i get the upgrades? Thanks........any help appreciated[&o]

RE: Best gyro for shogun
I have a walkera 36 (400 size electric) and a raptor 30 with a csm 560 gyro. I had a stock walkera gyro and it was fine for just a hover, but thats it. Outside that the tail became unpredictable. The advice i recieved was either a CSM micro 560 or futaba 401 only. This advice came from a friend that i have seen fly extreme 3d with my great amazement. In the end i bought the 401 for the walkera and it has changed my flying over night! I have total tail control now and is totally predictable. I can full throttle of the ground to 25 ft in the air and the tail wont budge an inch. It cool![;)]

RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 *
The 2200 mah one will not fit into the nose of the heli where the battery is supposed to go. The 1800 mah one does. You would have to alter the heli (cut out) some how to fit the 2200 battery. I had a 2200 battery and sent it back as it was too fat. Anyway you will get 15-20 mins minimum out of the 1800. Thats a good flight time! By the way i am using a walkera brushless. Good luck. I found my charge time to be on average an hour and fifteen minutes. And the battery or charger do not even get warm

RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 *
Hello Edz, I find my stock gyro great for locking the tail. I can slowly move the tail to hover side on both ways fine too. The moment i try to spin her tail out though she freaks and wont let me keep spinning the full 360 to get back where i started. For the purpose of learning tail out hover i'm finding the gyro quite unpredictable. It is certainly more responsive turning to the left. I do find with a tail in hover that the tail slowly wants to work itself to turn the heli left too. I cant seen to trim this out. I've been told too get a really good gyro. Either futaba 401 or the CSM 560 micro. This heli is a bit of a money pit but i do want to get more out of it. I think i should of bought a barebones kit or a trex kit

RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 *
Hey GTX, these batterys look exactly like the ones i use. Mine are labelled 3E. Here is one of the ones i use here for sale.http://www.trademe.co.nz/Toys-models/Radio-control/Aircraft/auction-39491143.htm The batterys i have have 10c advertised on them. They are dual esky and walkera plugs. The batterys have cell balancing leads which i dont use on my swallow charger. The 1800 mah batterys fit nice and snug into the frame at the front of the nose. The 2200 mah ones dont. I wouldnt bother with the 2200 cose where the heck do you mount it. Any way i get 15-20 minutes hovering, you will get more in forward flight. I have two batterys so i give the heli a moment to cool down between flights. Here is the charger....http://www.trademe.co.nz/Toys-models/Radio-control/Aircraft/auction-39660847.htm This charger gets great reviews on the forums. I use one. You cant overcharge unless you screw up programming it.

RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 *
Hello GTX, chuck the battery, its shit. I got the same deal as you at $29.95. Believe it or not but the charger actually does an ok job of charging those blue batterys. After i bought the battery i noticed no "c" rating. Thats because the chinese don't know what the C rating is!! I found this out from my suppliers. My heli was doing exactly what yours is doing. Except i have a walkera brushless, not an align one like you which is probably more powerful than mine. In the end i bout an 1800 mah lipo, 10C. And then came the power! I can fly higher now than i'm comfortable with. at least 30ft plus. I know the charger worked with mine as i re charged the battery on an expensive Robbe charger and it indicated a full charge. The charge was there but the discharge rate is not! In the end i bought a swallow charger and 2 Eflight batterys, now i'm sorted. The Gyro has to go next! Get any good quality 11.1 volt lipo,10c and up and you should be away! good luck

RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 *
I found the stock gyro good for a tail in fly around, but thats all. I can do all my side on hovers and i'm working on my tail out hover now. The problem is , is that when i try to spin her right around , she wont go right around. I will look at a futaba 240 i think.

Which Gyro?
I have a walkera 36, I have replaced the reciever on this heli and changed to a brushless. The heli is flying well but i'm not to pleased with the stock gyro. It seems i i cant even do a stationary 360 degree spin without it locking half way around. I have a CSM560 on my raptor and i have heard this is a great gyro. Can anyone suggest a good quality gyro to suit my walkera. I understand futaba and CSM are the leaders in this feild. I am open to any suggestions and a place to buy, thanks[;)]

RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 *
I think the gyro is cheesy. It seems at this stage with my flying that the gyro is pretty much good for the normal tail in flying around. I was hovering at about 4 feet and wanted to do a 360. All it did was just over a 180, so i was tail out and i sat her down quick as i cant at this stage hover tail out. I can hover well, and can hover tail at 3 and 9 0clock. But for total tail out at 12. thats another story. It does'nt help that the gyro isnt wanting to do what i want it too. I am looking into a CSM micro or futaba. If the heli is unpredictable then how can i develop my flying skills.

RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 *
What happened to you tail? Did you have the servo mounted right? I fiddled with mine a bit and i just in the end placed the servo horn at 90 degrees to the tail boom and the tail horn the same. So far the heli flys well for just a fun fly around. But i get the feeling on my heli that if i was to throw it around a little i reckon the tail would loose it. I'm not tooooo confident on this tail gyro.

RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 *
My battery also has visible seperation between cells. When i charge it , it doesnt even get slightly warm. After a 20 minute run the battery is warm, the motor is hot and the esc is warm. I think the walkeras are priced cheap and are a bit cheap. Once i made the mods i was very pleased. In hindsight if i was going to do it all over again!!! I should of bought a Trex! The DF36 is alot more of a heli compared to my old honey bee 2 ccpm. I could fly well with it but as a heli to start off with.......bad move! I had no experience with flight then.

RE: ** WALKERA DRAGONFLY 36 *
I paid for one of those blue lipos (made in china) and a stock of the wall charger, i tried using it on the stock 400 brushed motor, it was crap. But it wasnt the charger as a friend of mine had an expensive lipo charger, even after he charged it, it was still crap. I had better peformance off the 12 volt nimh battery. I could get 6 mins out of that with good power. Also the stock trans and reciever combo let me down with lost transmission a few times causing 3 crashes and $100 nzd in parts. I now use a walkera brushless and esc. I got my hands on a 1800mah lipo (10c discharge) battery. Made by 3E flight. They are $69.00 in new zealand. WOW! what a difference. Now i could fly higher than what i'm comfortable with! And i get 20 minutes out of it. Also it fits very snuggly into the front of the heli and doesnt protude out to far. The battery has cell balancing plugs as well as dual esky/walkera plugs on it. I have ordered another. I can practise now for a long time and i'm currently working on my tail out hover....which proves to be very hard. by the way i have changed reciever and am using my 8 channel jr radio on it( i have a bigger heli), however i here that using the existing radio gear with brushless gets rid of the loosing transmission thing. I got sick of it being unreliable and replaced the gutz![;)]

Thanks guys, i cant afford a sim at the moment as a good one here is about $400 nzd. I may give the circuit a practise. To hover inverted i would expect you would have to be able to hover tail out, due to all controls being reversed? thanks guys

Hi KG4 Just use the forums as they are the most useful tool available. I would be happy to swap emails as well as i just love to chat about helis. I'm on my second one. My first heli was a honey bee 2 and for a total novice like myself it was very difficult to fly. I love my #36 but its not without its grief with the standard radio gear and brushed 400 motor. I have made upgrades and i now get about 20 minutes flight per pack.

Hey BUACC, I have dealt with ehirobo since day one. They are ok to deal with. I bought a lipo and charger off them and it was crap! The lipos are wrapped up in blue plastic and are well knowen for being of poor quality with no advertised discharge rate. Thats for a reason though! they dont know what it is! I had to send it back and they have sent me a new lipo which i am due to recieve soon. Basically they are good but dont expect any good technical advice, the chinese make them but they dont seem to know much about them. After all look at the instructions![;)]

I just got the walkera brushless and esc. I also replaced the RX with a JR one and i am using my JR 8ch Tx. I have only had three crashes in 6 weeks alll due to lost transmission. Probably due to the stock 400 brushed motor on the stock RX. Those three crashes have cost me about $60. I Had my first real test flight today and i just hovered around at about three feet for about 15 minutes. Once i get up a bit more and throw her afound more i might be able to get 20 minutes out of my 1800 mah lipo. I'm a very happy man.[>:]
