Congrats, that certainly was nail biting. You are still tail heavy. That was an interesting choice of field for a maiden or flying at all with all those obstacles.<!EndFragment> Harry

My stock tailwheel never even got installed - it looked like trouble. I used a Sig tailwheel and added some ply like mobyal did. The mains are not much better and changed them out too. Other than that, it is a solid aircraft! Harry

I have an H9 Camel and was concerned about the parts availability, funny thing is, the things that have broken were not designed too well and have re-worked those items to be better. As someone has said, there is nothing you cant rebuild yourself - and its fun! Williams Bros wheels rock. Harry

No problem, just want to add that the tires are identical but the hub and wheel cap are different. The cap screws on (which I like better) and the stock just pushes on. The cap has "CUB" on it that I sanded off and painted white. Harry

RE: Taylorcraft crash
I think a BNF of that size is a bad idea as it gives some who do not have the understanding or know how to correct or maintain an aircraft a false sense of security (not directed at you comanche). At least with an ARF, you have to put the main sections together and will make the appropriate and often necessary adjustments. H9 makes very good planes in my opinion, but from my experience, you have to add glue (a lot) to fortify some possible weak areas. I am not a fan of nylon bolts and would give HH a call. They have been nothing but a pleasure to deal with for me. Harry And sorry for your lost plane, that is (was) a beauty

RE: tim's wow take off
That plane needs smooth throttle in order to take off properly. I think thats a Paulistina, Cub knock off. Looks to me like he started getting in trouble then gunned it. Torque roll - prop stops and plane turns. Did something very simular myself - once - only I did a complete roll 4ft off the ground. People aroung me said "wow, what a save" I said I had nothing to do with it. Dumb luck. And yes, this type of taildragger (and most) need constant right rudder on take off. Harry

RE: Lipo Fire in Garage
The temp where I live has been 60ish at night to 85 during the day for the last couple of months. June gloom is lifting here in LA and that is why I decided to store in the garage (which is not temp controlled but insulated and power vented) Figure if they have lasted a couple of years, I must be doing something right.
ORIGINAL: grimbeaver Also to the guy who said he stores his lipos outside in his grill. You just let me know how many cycles you get from those... I'll store mine in a temperature controlled environment thanks.
Grill is in the shade. You must have missed my post where I was concerned the ambient temp was increasing and moved the lipos into my sandblast cabinet in the garage. By the way, have had many of these packs for several years with hundreds of cycles. You may want to add yourself to that temperature control. Kind of arrogant statement. To each his own. This is only a hobby. Harry

RE: Lipo Fire in Garage
I really want to thank you for being so forthcoming. Not all would reveal how you were charging. It is very easy to become complacent with charging and this has given me a kick to pay more attention to charging and lipo storage. I said in a previous post that I stored my lipos in a grill outside but it is starting to get too warm here. Looking around the garage, it hit me! My sandblasting cabinet would make for a great lipo storage container. Thank you Andy. Harry

RE: Lipo Fire in Garage
Thank God it burned itself out. I too was guilty of charging right on my workbench with flammables all over the place and then occasionally checking during commercials. I decided to make a charging station that I could either place near me or just take it outside while charging. Also put a smoke detector nearby for a little extra safety. Store the lipos outside in a grill. Call me paranoid, so be it. Harry

My comment was not meant to belittle you in any way. If you took it that way, I am very sorry. You comment just left out many details that would enlighten us on what happened and why the radio you sold crashed 2 planes. Many read these forums looking for info on a future purchase and "buyer beware" is very strong when the DX8 is a very good product in my opinion. Again, sorry if I embarrassed you. Harry

To the ones that have received the same doom that i received. i feel your pain. Update: I sold mine to a flyer who has over 20 yrs flying. Received a phone call the other day. He has lost two planes that he has flown for over 5 years. If your a gambler be my guest and buy one. Maybe spectrum has the issues resolved, maybe not. Take Care and Pray for Good Air Corporate Greed Sux
So did you have trouble with your DX8 - and then sold it to someone else? Just because someone has been flying for 20 years does not make him an expert - on the contrary, he may not not have set up things correctly. Comments like this with no explanation or accounting of what has occurred has no Bering on any kind of equipment recommendations. Harry

The AR7000 works just as well with the DX8. Have them in 2 planes - never a glitch with either DSM2 receivers or DSMX receivers. Harry

I have 3 tail draggers that need throttle to land successfully. With the Camel, I have found that rudder input needs to be at a minimum or it will turn and roll. Wish I had a grass runway as pavement is not forgiving at all. Harry

I just checked your motor and it is a 300kv and what I am using is 400kv so I can see the bigger prop would work. I would like to use a more scale prop like an 18 and would like to know how your setup works. As you said, full throttle is rarely necessary as it just goes vertical. Love how this plane flies. Harry

RE: Hangar-9 Sopwith Camel Build Thread
I don't think you will be able to swing a prop that big with that motor on 6S. The largest I can go is a 16x10 without over amping. Someone was able to put his batteries in the cowl and not use the extra lead but I still had to add about 3/4lb to get the balance. That is with the battery through the firewall right behind the motor. I am using a 6S 4000 pack, 15x8 prop and get 15 min flight times. Harry
