RE: *** Ultra Sport Brotherhood ***
My .60 US has a Fitzpatrick .60 in it and is a great flyer. My giant US was built from RCM plans,( before the kit came out) a very enjoyable project, it did have a 1.2 four stroke, in process of putting a Saito 1.5 in it. I also have a .40 a.60 kits in the stack. Joe

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
I have run into another snag. I need a adapter nut 10/1.5 mm for my Laser 1.8. The one I have is about 3/16" too long for the prop MA18/8 and tru turn spinner combo. Tru Turn does not make one with a 1.5mm thread. I have not found a spinner nut with a10mm/1.5mm. Joe

I now have 1 3/4" aileron movement in both directions. I will use Xmitter settings to get correct movement. 40mm is almost 1 9/16. Will set deflection for this and set down to 20 mm.. To achieve this I drew a series of lines on the aileron horns as follows 3/4"above and parallel to bottom of aileron, 5/8" as before and a verticle line 90 deg to aileron at the edge of the taper. I drilled a 7/32 hole in the box drawn on aileron horn. Joe

I moved the aileron control rod to the rearmost lowest hole in the horn . Now get more up (1") and less down but still have more down than up. I am going to drill a hole on the horn lower and farther away from the hinge line. If I could remove the aileron horn I would mount it reverse of the way shown in step 6. More later. Joe

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
All control surfaces hooked up and moving in correct direction. The rudder and elevator deflection is correct. The aileron deflection is .5" up and 1" down, caused by foward sweep of the control horn. This differential setup is opposite of what I have come to expect of aileron differential ie more up than down. ????????????????????? Joe

I'm Back. Bound the receiver to Xmttr. Squared all servo arms and have started rigging the control cables. The servo end is fastened in place and the cables are cut to length and run to thier respective control arms. Throttle linkage all 2.5" of it is installed, needs minor adjustment. Rudder servo is connected to large control lever in fuse. Mine has only one hole drilled for control rod. Using 4-40 rod and hardware. More later. Joe

jagfab, I am using JR SPORT ST126MG servos. They fit the existing mounting locations. I did glue several strips of 1/8" ply 1/2' wide under the existing mount to give the servo screws more material to bite into. Since I do not know the size of the servos you intend to use I suggest you do some measuring to see how much material you will have to remove, then decide what to do. Reinforce as necessary. My father, who loved wood working, told me to measure twice, cut once. Joe

Left to go flying, wife went to have her hair done and groceries. Halfway to the field got a call from wife at wallyworld. She ran over something, punchered one tire and drove several miles on it. I turn around, meet her, new tire $130.00, Groceries $104.00 Hair ??. Could have been a lot worse. Back at mounting the upper wing, the struts are two different lengths 328mm & 330mm frount and rear respectfully. the cabanes three different lengths mounted these as follows 204mm rear, 222mm center and 220mm front. Looks good, Her hair looks good too. hope to fly Sunday. Joe

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
Found screw hole in stab and removed covering. The only drilled hole in the stab braces is at the stab end. Fitted the stab braces. Had to rebend the fuse side of the braces so they would lay over the blind nut openings in the fuse. I marked the hole locations in the braces' and marked the overlap, I drilled the braces and cut off the overlap, result a good fit. Cleared off the cluttered workbench, put the lower wing on put upper wing together and inserted the strut mounting tabs, did not glue. I then put the cabanes in place, using my best guess, and attempted to mount the upper wing. The expression "busier than a one arm paper hanger" came to mind . I did get the wing sort of mounted but my best guess was/is not right. Will regroup and try again later. I did find the flying wire attachment point for the lower wing, about 3" from the LE at the root rib and slightly in. Epoxied all "wing skids" in place. Off to the flying field. Joe

600 Bob, Ref. to step 38. I had to look long and hard to find the slots. They are right where the illustration shows. Use your finger nail and rub the locations shown. One is about midway down from the rear hatch former, the other is in the upper control wire opening. Maybe these fotos will help. I cut and threaded three 7.5" rods, 0ne inch of thread on each end. I used 1/8" welding rod 4-40 die.

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
My cabanes are not labled either. Still have to clear the clutter off my work bench before I will tackle that problem. Just a guess, the longest is the center, the shortest is front, the remaining(second longest) is the rear. The stab brace on mine will need a hole drilled in each before mounting. I am enjoying this long distance chat we are having. I spent most of yesterday on a riding mower, large yard. Today its the push mower and weed wacker.Joe

600Bob, You are a genius! Simple and neat. Wonder if three rods were used could the center section and cabanes be left in place? second thought center section could not be left in place but cabanes could. Will have to try that. Would have to make a support to keep wings aligned while assembling and dissambling for flying. Thanks! Joe

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
Hi DB, Thanks for the foto's, good info. I have been a model airplane builder for over 60 years and still do not know all there is to know about building/assembling model airplanes. Step 10 instructs / requires glueing the upper wing sections together. I would preferr a three piece wing. I question the ability of the flying wires to keep the wings tight to the center section. What method did you use? It should be easy to bend a couple of metal straps to go between and bolt to the cabane straps under the center section. Joe

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
Hi DB, I would prefer a multi piece upper wing, easier to store and transport. I am open to alternatives. I doubt that I will have this in the air this flying season so there is no hurry. The other items that I am working out in my thoughts is the fuel delivery system. I want to use a Sullivan fill valve and am looking for a suitable mounting location, hidden and easy to get at. The tank vent will be top of cowl. The third line will exit the bottom of cowl for defueling and will be plugged. I also need to install baffeling in the cowl to insure proper cooling. The Laser instructions show a diagram for a Tiger Moth baffel. The Laser has not been run. The Tru-Turn spinner backplate has been sent to mfg to be reamed to 10mm. The empty instrument panels need to be filled. I have a pair of DuBro 5" wheels so will use them. Joe

RE: ECOMRC TigerMoth 1/4 Scale
Trial fitted the upper wing. Temporialy put fittings in place. Everything fits OK. I started sanding wing mating the area on the center section. I want to remove as much paint from the plastic mating surfaces as possible. Doing this will roughing the surface and make a better glueing surface. I also plan to wick CA under the plastic. All this is to make a stronger wing to center section joint. I do not like the present wood, plastic, wood wing joints. I am also thinking of carefully removing the plastic in the wing joint area. Joe

Rudder and tail wheel mounted. Used dubro collars as the supplied collars could not be tightend. The tapered end of the grub screw is too long and could not be tightened. Checked the stab brace, there is only one hole will have to figure out where to drill another hole so nthat I can bolt it to the fuse. bottom. I did fit and temporarily mount the main L. G. and stick the cowl on.

Covering on exposed wood, root ribs andon fuse done . The vert. stab glued in place. Elevator mounted. When i test mounted the lower wing took a good look at the fuselage there, not much structure. Will add some 3/16 sq basswood to reinforce the corners, maybe some cross braces as well. Catch a wing tip on takeoff or landing and its goodby fuselage. Control horns on rudder and elevator are epoxied in place. I sanded the area where the epoxy goes to give more bite. Joe

RE: Skystreakers R/C Club
The remains of the Venus II have been found. The airplane is not repairable. The radio equipment has been checked out and is working. The OS FS 110a however lost its head. The rocker cover was ripped off taking with it the rocker mount, rocker arms and pushrods. The cylinder head damaged and is not useable. The main bearing was noisy and would have needed replacement soon. I tallied the costs and it is less than half the cost of a new engine so I ordered the parts and started repair. The parts did not come in all at once, replaced main bearing first, The cylinder head and rocker arms and mount arrived, put that together, thats when I found both valves were bent, more cost. The engine is fully repaired and tested. Runs great! The engine repair was interesting and fun, however, I should have done more disassembly before ordering the parts. The bent valves put the total cost over the 50% mark. To repair or not to repair is the question we all have to come to grips with. Joe

Engine is mounted, and fuel tank platform is installed, throttle servo mount made. The throttle servo is mounted ( external ) in the cutout provided. I added ply spacers to bring the servo level with the carb throttle arm. I glued 1/8 X 3/8 lite ply doublers to bottom of rudder & elevator mount. Just adding thickness for servo screws to bite into. Next need to pick up, straighten up, put away "stuff" to make room to check wing & stab alignment. Joe
