RE: EME 55 DLE's new Cousin?
It would seem to me that it would be to the advantage of the dealer to make this right as quickly as possible. I had been giving some thought to taking a chance on one of these engines just to see what they are like. After reading this thread I think my question has been answered. When I get ready to buy an new engine I think I will spring for the DLE. Steve

RE: Do you own a valid passport?
Now have my second passport. Lived in Japan four years serving as a missionary. My current passport is used for mission trips, Haiti last November and again this October. Also, a trip to Cali, Colombia several years ago for a church conference. Living and traveling outside the USA will make you truly appreciate what we have in this country. Steve

RE: Model airplane news articles needed
I just recently finished an Ultra Hots from the MAN plans. If you are going to build from the MAN plans, be warned that they are not very good. Templates are not accurate. It is impossible to cut out a "kit" and build the plane. It takes a lot of cut and fit to make it work. I am confident that whoever drew the plans never built a plane using them. I don't know if the plans from Santich are better. However, if you persevere you will be rewarded with a plane that is really fun to fly. As to the construction article, if you have built any planes from plans, or even kits, you really don't need the construction article. It is a simple and straight forward build. Even with the poor plans I ejoyed building my Ultra Hots. Steve

Kudos to Agape Racing and Hobby
I thought I would give a shout out to Jim at Agape Racing and Hobby. Last year I bought an XYZ 26 from him. From the very start the engine just wasn't right. I contacted Jim and he said I should send it back to him. He worked on it and sent it back saying he thought it was OK now. I flew it some but it still wasn't right. I contacted him again and he sent me a replacement Rcexl ignition free of charge. That helped some, but the engine continued to get worse and worse. I contacted Jim and again (now more than a year later) and he told me to send it to him again. Long story short he spent considerable time trying to repair my engine with no success. He resolved the problem by sending me a new engine. Which runs perfectly! To say that I am impressed with Jim and his service would be a great understatement. It is refreshing to come across someone who understands what customer service really means. You can be sure I will buy from Jim again. I highly recommend his honesty and his dedication to customer service. Thanks again Jim! Steve

RE: Ultra Hots
I am currently building my second Ultra Hots. I am using plans from Model Airplane News. I would not use them again! There are little errors in the plans that make it clear whoever drew the plans never built a plane from them. If you have built from plans before there is nothing that can't be figured out. It is just annoying. I don't know if the plans from the Santich web site are better or not. I am not sure, but I think someone sells a short kit for the Ultra Hots. Anyway, it is a great plane and a blast to fly. I am hoping to have mine ready in a month or two. Steve

LS1F What method did you use to attach your wing cover/hatch? I have not decided for sure how I am going to do mine. I was not at all happy with the way I did it on my first Ultra Hots. I am open to ideas. Thanks, Steve

RE: The Hots
John, Actually this is my second Ultra Hots. I had one some years ago and sold it. I had so much fun with it I decided to build another. My first Ultra Hots had a G-38 on it. It was more than enough for sport flying. The one I am building now will have a CRRC 40 for power. Again, I am not expecting 3D performance just good solid sport flying. I have other planes to fly when I want to mess around with the 3D stuff. The Ultra Hots is really a straight forward build, nothing out of the ordinary, but provides a really fun plane. I say, "Go for it in whatever size you like." Steve

RE: The Hots
I am currently building an Ultra Hots. The wing span is 80 inches. If you are wanting to build something that size the easiest thing to do is to simply build the Ultra Hots. I am building mine from the Model Airplane News plans. They are not very good plans. My guess is that who ever drew the plans never built a plane from them. There are problems with the plans that would quickly have come to light if they had built a plane using them. Even though they are more expensive, if I had it to do over again I would order the plans from the Santich web site. At least I know they have built the planes. The Hots is a great plane. I have built several of them over the years. Steve

RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz*
I too recently purchased an SD 10G. I did so on the strength of the service I have received from my RDS 8000. It has performed flawlessly for me. I am expecting the same from the SD 10G. I was a Futaba user for over 30 years. When I began looking into 2.4 I found the Airtronics to be a much better value for the money. So far, I have not been disappointed. Steve

RE: The Hots
Some years ago I built and flew an Ultra Hots. I had more fun with that plane than about any other I have ever owned. For some reason I took it to auction and sold it. As soon as I did I regretted it. So, after all these years, I am in the process of building another Ultra Hots. I am hoping to have it flying in late April or May. I am really looking forward to finishing it. Steve

Blade MSR question
I got a Blade MSR for Christmas and have been flying it a lot. I have gotten fairly proficient with it. I can fly it around my house without crashing into things. I can hover nose in, fly backward, sideways, etc. My question is this, how much of what I have learned with my MSR would translate to a larger and perhaps more complex heli. If I moved up to a little larger heli would I have to start the learning curve all over again? Thanks, Steve

RE: Loose antenna Airtronics RDS8000
I talked to the Airtronics guys at the AMA show yesterday. I mentioned the antenna problem. They played dumb, told me they had not heard of it. Doesn't bode well for any kind of real help from them to fix the problem. So far, I have been fortunate, my RDS 8000 antenna has not broken. Steve

RE: What's going on the board this season?
Some years ago I built an Ultra Hots. One of my favorite all time planes. I sold it and then wished I had kept it. So, as soon as I get home from Christmas with the kids and grandkids I will begin building a new one. I will be using the MAN plans. It will be powered by a new CRRC 40i. Radio will be Airtronics RDS 8000. I am thinking about posting pictures as I progress through the build. Steve

RE: dealing with static when applying microlite film
There is a product called "Static Guard." It is a spray product used to get static out of clothing. It will get rid of static. It does not stain or damage clothing. I would spray a little on the suface of your covering and see if it damages it. If not you should find that the static is gone. Give it a try. Steve

RE: OMG
I have reached the point in life that I simply don't trust my memory. I have glued red ribbon on small clothes pins that I clip to the prop of each plane. When I go to fly the plane it reminds me to check that I have the correct program turned on. So far, it has worked well for me. I haven't taken off with the wrong plane on my transmitter. Steve

RE: Anyone Else Having Trouble With Super Monokote?
This is my latest project using Monokote. To say that it was a nightmare would be an understatement, espicially the white!! It absolutely refused to shrink. I found the best way to do it was to stretch it as tight as I could, seal the edges and not try to shrink it. I have decided I will no longer use Monokote. Steve

RE: Finally got my Edge 540 re-covered
Trust me guys! Heat will not get all of the Chinakote stuff off. It might help, but with this stuff it is easier to use the acetone method. The glue on this stuff is not strong enough to keep it on the plane, much less pull up layers of balsa. Been there done that. Steve

RE: Finally got my Edge 540 re-covered
I don't think heating it would get this stuff off! I simply peeled off what I could get and then wiped the plane down with acetone. It will take the left over color stuff and glue off quickly and easily. A word of warning, don't use too much acetone as it will disolve many types of glue. Dampen a rag and use just enought to disolve the stuff left on the plane I hope this helps. Steve

Finally got my Edge 540 re-covered
I have just finished re-covering my 30% Edge 540. It is an ARF that I got for a really great price. The problem was that the Chinakote covering was really bad. After flying it for about six months, the covering was literally falling off the plane. So, I re-covered it with Monokote. (BTW it will be the last time I use Monokote after more than thirty years) My Edge is powered by a DL 50 and guided by an Airtronics RDS 8000. I am looking forward to flying it again. Steve

RE: monokote change
I have just finished re-covering a 30% Edge with Monokote. My take on it is that the stuff has become junk. It is nothing like what it was originally. I can tell you that after using Monokote for close to 30 years, I have bought my last roll. I am moving on to something else. Just my opinion. Steve

RE: CRRC PRO 26cc will not hand start
You retard the timing by moving the sensor pick up back(counter clockwise) about 2mm. I would mark where it is currently so that you can return it to the original setting if necessary. To move it back you must loosen the screws holding the sensor, move it back and then retighten the screws. Hope this is a help. Steve

RE: CRRC PRO 26cc will not hand start
I had the same problem with my XYZ 26. It would start using a starter, but would only pop and sputter until the prime was gone when trying to hand start. I tried everything I could think of including sending it back for service. What finally solved the problem was to retrard the timing about 2mm. Since I did that it has been a reliable hand starter. I don't know if this would help your engine, but it might be worth a try. Steve

RE: Helicopter flyer get out of my *&%$%^ way
Some years ago when I was living in Japan, I was watching a very nice Corsair on take off roll, just as he lifted off, a heli popped up in front of the plane. The pilot jerked the stick left, stalled the plane and snapped it into the ground destroying the plane. My comment was I would have continuned straight out, that way if the plane hit the heli, the heli pilot would have, at least, paid the price for his stupidity!!!! Steve
