TOP FLITE GIANT SCALE P51 ARC
I proceed to work on a Top-Flite Mustang ARC that was in my "to build" corner for the past 6 years. Sierra precision main and tail wheel retractable gears, 3W70 for power, Aerotech sliding canopy kit and the full cockpit which I still need to order from IFlyTailies.

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear
No cockpit details, just some silver paint sprayed in the canopy interior. The canopy deck is reinforced with glass fiber mixed with micro-balloon, some guide pins inserted forward and in the sides. A BVM latch is used for release, very easy to do giving a quick access to install the 8 cells battery that sit in the from behind the firewall. The retractable tail wheel setup is fom Robart and mounted on a carbon-fiber former, the elevator control horn is home-machined glued/pined on a carbon-fiber tube that control both elevators. I extended the main gear legs have a enough propeller clearance, it also give a nicer looks to the Rear-Bear on the ground. I which Thunder Tiger would put back this model on the market, updated and in the new Rear Bear colors also setup for optional EP power (change the cockpit deck to a true quick release hatch).

RE: ThunderTiger Rare Bear
Just picked up on this thread, I have been flying my T.T. Rear Bear since this spring. I converted it to electric (didn't want to spoil John Penny autograph on the wing with glow fuel), powered with an E-flite Power 110, Castle HV85 Esc, 8 cells 5000mAh lipo and a small 1800 Life for the electronics, APC 18X10 propeller and the weight came out 12.5 lbs with batteries( I built the blue version powered with an OS 120 pump that weighted 13.5 lbs). I have been flying with an Aurora9 loaded with the telemetry, the level ground speed recorded is 120 miles/hr with the fastest recorded ground speed at 159 miles/hr. My wind are holding fine but had to rebuilt the section where the retractable gear mount due to poor wood quality and design. I fly mostly big gas warbirds but this Rear Bear is fun to fly!

RE: Spitfire CARF-Models 2011 Build Thread. Started by Lazy Eight & WARBIRDRCER
I aligned and mounted the cowl to the fuselage then attached a jig matching the spinner back plate section of the cowl with a center hole. following I inserted a 1/4" carbon fiber tube with a pencil attached at the end to mark the trust center spot on the firewall (the jig was made of 1/4 plywood with a small thick section a the center so the tube stays centered). There is a slight right and down trust molded into the cowl. I also didn't follow any of the instructions except for the CG location as for the servo mounting I selected slightly forward of the wing trailing edge which allowed to install one piece carbon-fiber tube from servo to control horn for the elevator. My cockpit is fully detailed and goes down almost to the level of the wing saddle (rudder pedals). Good luck on the project and keep the pictures coming! Bruno

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Thanks, it was a hot day at about 95F with density altitude at around 9000ft. This was the second flight, engine did over heated. I improved the cooling by opening the cowl a bit more and per suggestions went with a 25X10 instead of 26x10 on the 3W85XICS, this coming weekend I'll be at Warbirds Over Pikes Peak and will try this smaller prop. This suggestion came from a person that fly a Sach 5.8 on a 45lb P47 down in Pueblo, I believe that the flying field over there is around 6000ft. He had the same problem with a 26X10 and was solved when he went to a 25X10. Thanks for posting the video! Bruno

RE: Warbirds Over Denver, June 8-10!
I enjoyed the event thank you Lora and Doug! The nice three ladies WWII show was very entertaining, loved the idea! It was great to see so many beautiful Warbirds, the craftsmanship on the Staggerwing, the large Stearman with the Moki, the F100 covered with Fliteskin, the Top-Flite Corsair, and many more were outstanding. Thank you for all the advice I received about my Spitfire engine, two 25x10 propellers are on the way. See you many of you at Warbirds Over Pikes Peak Anyone have some pictures to post? Bruno

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Mission accomplished 1.5 year of work on and off "et voila!". Maiden flight was last Saturday, took off at about 300ft no lack of power even at 5280ft. Flew couple paterns, the engine was a bit to lean resulting in a dead stick gear up landing on the grass. Not much damage, just cosmetic that is now repaired. Next flight tomorrow! CARF Spitfire, 102" WS, 42lbs, 3W85 XICS engine, Modified Bisson Pit muffler, Integrated engine cooling ducting from larger wing scoop, sealed carburetor intake from the smaller scoop, full detailed cockpit, sliding canopy, painted with Klass-Kote, painted graphics, no decals. Next project Mike reeves 1/4 scale Spitfire, inline 110 3W, scheme will be a Mk IX bear hauler

RE: ANOTHER COMP ARF SPITFIRE
Mission accomplished, 1.5 year of work on and off. The plane is 42lb. The scheme is from the full scale that flew in the battle of Britain till 1942 piloted by the free France pilot Francois de Labouchere of le groupe de chasse "ILE DE FRANCE", 340 Sqn of the RAF. This Spitfire is a MK Vb GW-Y/EN908, top is dark green and Ocean grey, bottom is medium sea grey. The all plane was painted using Klass-Kote even for the markings and nose art with some Testor enamel for some of the fine details. Both side of the fuselage, by the from windshield adorn the Cross of Loraine wich is one of the symbol of France. A black cat is painted on the port side bellow the last exhaust stack, this insignia represent a toy that was given by a girl friend. Francois de Labouchere was killed in action September 5th 1942 in a dog fight against German fighters where his squadron was well outnumbered. He is an example of many courageous men and women from many countries that fought for the right of independence and freedom. Next stop Mike Reeves 1/4 scale Mk IX Spitfire beer hauler.

Warbirdrcer, I have a 3W85XI red head, 26X10 Menz prop, 1.25" hub extension, modified Bison muffler. The paint is from KlassKote, great product! I used some Testor Enamel as well in the cockpit details. I expect the weight to be around 40-42lbs.

RE: ANOTHER COMP ARF SPITFIRE
Thanks Al, I keep this in mind since I have few used electric setups I could use. I took the plane on the patio yesterday and messed up with the engine for couple of hours but no success into starting this 3W85XI. All the batteries are properly charged, good fuel flow and spark but no luck. I then remember about issue with plug cap arcing when the silicone is damaged and since I bought this engine second hand over a year ago and never ran it. I was not surprised to observe that in fact the cap was arcing inside as I rotated the prop (ing. V4.4) concluding the need for a replacement. So until I get a new cap from 3W, better order few, I'll clean the shop for the next project.
