RE: Robart Landing gears Vs other ones for Ziroli P38
Hi there from New Zealand I purchased a ZP38 3\4 completed. This model is fitted with Robart retracts {as specified on the plans} and I have found that with the specified 5" aloy wheels & pneumatic tyres, the gear doors {just}foul on the retracted wheels and that when retracted the wheel also fouls on the adjacent boom former - requiring some re-sculpting. The wheels also seem to be too far to one side despite mounting the UC as far to the other side as possible. I also note that the drawings show that the UC is mounted onto the top of the gear plate, thus the only thing keeping the UC on, is the wood in the screw threads - perhaps this is to make the system somewhat repairable? I further noted that the {wooden} booms seem to have an inherant weakness. The aft end of the wing cutout is in the same general area as the aft end of the gear door cutout. So looking from the side, there are not one but two notch break failure pionts in that area of each boom. I will use a couple of layers of 2oz glass cloth & epoxy on the booms extending to the aft edges of the boom radiators - hopefully I can hide the blend line in this way. I urge you to checkout the brilliant P38 build log by GPETE here on RCU. His work here is my inspiration. Regards Dave Read Christchurch New Zealand

RE: hobbyking issues warbird charger power supply
Yes I was dismayed to see that robust discussion regarding this particular vendor has been suppressed; & yet more upset to read the pittiful excuse for this sensorship. I bulid & fly r/c warbird models. Due to my location I buy from international vendors like HK. I am very interested to hear the circumstances surrounding HK's poor customer service when things go pear shaped {esp when this happens in a neighbouring country with a local HK depot} I put it to the forum moderater that this sort of information is as vital to warbird modellers as it is to any other flier. Spreading the word will :- 1} allow the buyer to beware 2} put pressure on this particular vender. Just my 2cents worth Dave Read Christchurch New Zealand

Morepower adjustable 3blade scale props
Today I was shown a one of these beautiful props. It featured a two piece scale hamilton standard hub {9 capscrews holding it togeather] with 3 individual carbon blades. The prop is 20"dia X 12" pitch adjustable + or - 2 deg. The blades had an aluminium insert in the cuff end with what looked like an M6 {1/4"}thread within. This insert was about 1.5mm {1/16"} larger than the carbon blade cuff & it seemed that this was all that was stopping the blade from flying out of the hub. Further inspection revealed that the blade cuffs were about 0.8mm {1/32"} larger in diameter than the bores in the hub halves thus the hubs also clamped the blades. This prop is aimed at the 50 - 55cc range Check out their website XXXXXXXXXX link edited out as it has nothing about models in it at all ???. Has anyone tried them yet? P.S. I can't figure out what the thread in the end of the blade is for!!!??? Dave Read Christchurch New Zealand

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hi there Spitfire fans Does anyone have a good set of drawings for Spit with either/or griffon engine cowl & low back bubble canopy. I would love to model the MK XVI that stands as the gate guardian at Christchurch Int'l Airport, or perhaps one of the MK XIIsl soon to be unearthed in Mayanmar. I have access to a mould & wing drawings to produce a 1/6th scale MKIX. So If I can find some good construction {or sectional view}drawings of the latter cowl & turtledeck I can then model almost all of our favourite warbird variants. Regards Dave Read Spit brother #14

Ziroli P38 help
Hi everyone Can anyone please help out with my ZP38 project - I am missing the drawing sheet that shows the boom formers. If someone has this information in digital format I would appreciate a copy. I purchased my nearly completed airframe at an estate sale complete with all the drawings except the boom formers. My work collegue wants to use the Ziroli drawings to create a SolidWorks 3D rendered virtual model of this aircraft - cool!!! Regards Dave Read New Zealand

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
I have the ASP 180 4 stroke in mine and it flies well. Yes I agree that the canopy is too brittle. I will add some bracing inside the canopy frame area as the canopy is prone to damage if you flip it over upon landing. Regards Dave Read

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hi spitfire brothers. Does anyone out there have a detailed set of spitfire drawings showing fuselage former detail for the bubble canopy spit. I want to know what mods to make to my early shape fuz to be able to model a late build MK XVI - or better still mod a Yellow aircraft fuz to create a MK XVIII. Anyone out there have a spitfire bubble canopy to suit either 1/6th scale {73" span} or to suit any other larger Spit kit or plan Also, why is it so hard for kit manufactruers to get the botom of the wing center section right - the cheating dogs just make the thing flat. RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Hi. PM sent I have a 73" Mk XVI From a set of moulds that I traded some time ago. The Fuz looks similar to the Mick Reeves mouldings. The wings & tail are built up from plans, the retracts are home made and the spinner + decals came from Mick Reeves Models. Power comes {un-reliably}from a YS 140L. When the engine runs well the power is just right I have also found that at 14lb the spit is also a resonable glider!!! I plan to replace the YS with a Saito gasser. On the wish list there is either a Ziroli Spit or an ESM 50cc Spit. I would like to see large models of the later Griffon engine Spitfires available in kit or ARTC form as these longer nose mks would make better models {wider LG spacing, heaps more fin/rudder & less ballast} How about a nice scale bubble canopy, Griffon spinner and a set of conversion drawings from the Ziroli team {hint hint}

STUKA
Can someone please tell me whether the KMP 80" JU87-G Stuka is tha same as the ESM model?? I ask because I ordered a replacement canopy for my KMP model and recieved a part for the ESM model. Given that the two models are the same wingspan and therefor the same scale I was supprised to find that the ESM canopy was significantly smaller that the KMP original part. RE: New ARTF Mosquito - Is there a Market?
There was a huge debate in a UK forum betreen modellers & a noted ARF Manufacturer on this subject. It started with a could we? Then went to a should we? It proceeded to an "if we did then which variant should we do? {longer nacelles = less ballast = lower wing loading = better flying = happier customers}. There was even talk of offering alternate parts to model as many variants as posible and offering an unpainted product. Sadly, the maunfacturer pulled the pin on the Mozzi, stating that in his opinion there would be insufficient sales in the USA. He told us to be patient as he was about to release something that would "knock our socks off". Soon thereafter the ESM Lancaster & B17 Fortress wrer unveiled. {I wonder what the Lancaster sales are like in the USA??} Well the Lanc' & B17 are on the shelves at your LHS so now it's about time we had a Mosquito!! I'll buy one - tell me when, where and how much$$. I'll take one regardless of variant, paint or national markings!! Just make it a nice flying plane with a RELIABLE retract system & keep it as scale as possible Regards Dave Read NZ

RE: Building a DUELIST MK 2 From Plans!
Hi Guys Can Someone please help me out? I've finally started to build my Duellist kit, only to find that I'm missing fuselage formers #6, #7 & #9. Can some kind soul out there please scan the plans or trace the parts and send me the info? It's a pity that the kit plans don't include all the formers & ribs please email me at flyingpiggy@snap.net.nz P.S I see that Horizon Hobby is going to stock 60 - 120 size electric retracts as of next month. The price will be about $180 US. They run off the RX battery - I would be happier using a dedicated battery. Could be just the thing for our duallists - no more leaky air lines Regards Dave Read

Hi Guys I have a pair of OS surpass 70 four bangers in mine. It flies in a scale like manner but if I were to do it again I would go for RCV 90 CD engines.
