RE: Are Futaba and JR RF crystals interchangable
John, So the single and dual conversion is what we need to be concerned with, not really the manufacturer? DM

RE: Are Futaba and JR RF crystals interchangable
Do you know what the differences between the Futaba and the JR crystals are? I just pulled out an old Futaba 8JN AM system and noticed it had an FM crystal in the receiver. I was told 30 years ago, the FM and AM crystals are different and you must use them accordingly. The Am rx is working great with the FM crystal. DM

RE: Best do it all battery charger?
I'm just getting into electrics and I have a lot to learn, but I'll never trust the Schulze chargers. About 5-6 years ago, a friend of mine was using a Schulze Chameleon (the best one they had at the time) to charge his packs that cost about $700/pack. It was for his large twin turbine EDF. The packs were new, this was the first charge, and it poofed one pack. After watching that, it took me this long to get into electrics. The chargers now are practically idiot proof, which is what I really need. :) I would think what they ask for that charger, even back then, it should have had some better auto protection, just my 2 cents. RE: Model Airplane Designer/Builder Wanted
ORIGINAL: lamar389 If kits are "on their way out and dying", why do they go for top-dollar on ebay and in the buy-sell forum here? Why cant we have less expensive kits produced in China?
If all you're wanting to do is create kits using laser cutting you wouldn't need to source out to China for that. China has the market for labor, but to produce a nice laser cut kit, the cutter is doing all the work. Maybe the biggest expanse would be the boxes. Those you would probably want to look into using those guys for supplying that. The market for kits hasn't really changed much. The interest in R/C just grew, so the percentage of builders to R/Cers is no longer in favor of the builder, so the manufacturers has been focusing on the majority, the flyers who want ARFs. For instance Great Planes. Sig Mfg. is still doing well, also, Proctor, Balsa USA, Guillows, not to mentions the numerious independants that Are doing this. Offering quality laser cut kits at a decent price. Let us know how this project is going 049flyer DM

RE: MK Aurora 60 build - engine installation question
Yes, please be very careful on these engines. The Hanno liner is really known to have many troubles with pealing especially with the new synth. fuels. You may want to add some caster in your fuel. I add 4 oz. per gal. to Power Master 20/20 fuel. OS had so much trouble with the liners that they also ran a small bunch of ringed versions of the Hanno. But I dont think the power was the same, as the ringed version did not have the exhaust "power boost" notches the ABN version have. Awsome job Speed! That is the cleanest radio compartment I've seen in any plane! DM

RE: Auctions on Fleebay are NOT binding contracts, according to them
Actually Paypal is creating its own legal tender. For you to change "Paypal funds" to USD when you transfer them into your bank, they charge a percentage not a fee. A fee would be a flat rate per transfer with a possible max. amount. Charging percetages is like changing you USD to Yen or Pounds. They have created there own money seperate from USD. But anyway. I did receive wrong info. from the Fleebay rep. the first time I called. Fleebay did back me up, and told the seller to send the item. The seller emailed me stating that since they cant cancel the item, the are going to cancel their account on Fleebay. I told the seller this is a breach of contract and a civil suit can be filed against them. They told me they are going to keep the money and sue me for harrasment and defimation of character. I had to laugh when I read it. First time I laugh about this listing since it ended... so at least I got that out it. DM
ORIGINAL: eddieC I've sold a bunch of diecast cars on fleebay over the last several months, and am amazed at the disparity in fairness on the site between buyer and seller. I've been on since 2001 (100% feedback[8D]), and everything now is geared toward enticing the buyer and their protection, and screw the seller. It was much more equal 10 years ago. They change policies - and FEES! - on a whim. When their profits slip, they raise fees. They bought and now control Paypal, so it's a huge monopoly. They make huge money on their fees and the 'float' while they hold your money, yet they don't have to report financial data because they're not a bank - even though they are bigger than many banks. But hey, what was it you bought, anyway? And how much $? [:)] Surprised no one's asked...
RE: Auctions on Fleebay are NOT binding contracts, according to them
New news today. The seller opened a case on fleebay to cancel the auction. When I was asked by email from fleebay to agree, I refused and then called fleebay. A different associate from the auction site now tells me that the seller cant back down from the transaction, they must follow through. Completely different info from the previous person I spoke with just a couple days ago. If this is true, then I have to apologize to fleebay, (I did to the associate today). But I'm still skeptical about this. I'll just wait and see what happens. DM

RE: Auctions on Fleebay are NOT binding contracts, according to them
So you started the auction low and it didn't reach what you felt it should have. But it could have gone beyond your expectations, thats why a lot of sellers start them so low. Sometimes the auction will go higher than buying an item new on another site. I've seen Proctor kits that sell for $250 from Proctor reach $300 on fleebay. Its the excitement of compitition and it starts with a low starting price and the idea that this can sell for anything. But in this case, you gambled and you loss. So you paid up. Thats only fair for the buyer. Later when you search out something and win it at a low killer price, you'll be the one who comes out ahead, well providing the seller doesn't read this and find out that fleebay will make you pay for the sellers mistake. Good for you. You probably pay your credit cards too. RE: Auctions on Fleebay are NOT binding contracts, according to them
Thats what I'm saying. There are ones who wouldn't even think about it. They would just follow through with it and keep their word. But there will always be those who would cry about it and break their word. Now if these people really dont want to pay up when they dont get what they want off this site, they sould start with the amount they want, or at least put a reserve on it. Thats what those are for. People who do this have the same mentality of maxing out credit cards and then filling bankruptcy to come clean and let the creditors pay for they're "mistakes". Completely taking advantage of a "loop hole". Of course they get a bad mark on their credit report for a trade of tens of thousands of dollars. I personally know a cuple people who have done this more than once. Its a shame that there channels to let them do this. Bottom line is, you make a deal, you stick to it. If you don't like it, dont make the deal! DM

RE: Auctions on Fleebay are NOT binding contracts, according to them
I'm not sure the seller has been straight about this. First the seller told me they didn't know the value of the item, then, on the following day, said they posted a reserve for $400. When I ran across the listing, it was at $15 with no reserve. If the seller found out later what the value was, they would have been able to cancel the listing, as long as there was 12 hours or more time left. But then they did list it at only 99 cents to begin with anyway... with no reserve. So this seller didn't end the auction early, they simply didn't like the results. The seller clearly did the: start with the lowest amount (in this case 99 cents), set it with no reserve and the bidding wars commence. This practice can produce some exciting results, but it is a gamble. Thats why it can attact so much attention from buyers. In this case the seller just wasn't happy with the $115 results, and refuses to honor the stakes of their gamble. Forget Vegas.. I'm just gonna list everthing I can on fleebay and pick the ones that win the best for me, cancel the rest as fleebay allows. The very disturbing part IS that fleebay is stating that a seller can ignore the final results of the auction without any excuses, as often as they like. The only risk is negative feedback from the buyer. This by definition makes their listings Non binding, doesn't it? I feel that since fleebay says that their listings are a binding contract, they souldn't allow this "loop hole" in their policy. "Loop hole" was the discription that a representaive from fleebay gave me, it's not my discription. DM

RE: Auctions on Fleebay are NOT binding contracts, according to them
I did pay for the item. Didn't get my money back yet, but I dont want my money, I want the item that I won. I sold many things on fleebay and for the most part, I too start the auction @ $1 and I never put a reserve. Some items I end up getting a lot more than I expected, but sometimes I end up getting not even close to what I should have. about 18 months ago I sold a Futaba 14MZ 2.4 ghz tx module and rx. This was the set to convert 72mhz 14mz to 2.4ghz. It was NIB and I paid $450 from Tower for it. It sold for $65. I sent it to the buyer. It isn't a matter of honoring your word. It is a legal contract that supposed to be binding. If you are not willing to risk a low ball winning bid, Just put the amount you want as the starting bid, or place a reserve. Thats what they're for. I also am into autos. I seller sold a $14,000 Griggs suspension set up, never used or mounted, on ebay for $1800 and change to a friend of mine. That must have been hard for the poor seller, but he started the auction at, something like, $100 and no reserve. I'm very sure that if he knew that fleebay would just let him cancel for any reason he chose, he would have. Heck I would have bid $5000 for it if I knew about the listing. Even the associate from fleebay said he wouldn't complete a sale if he thought he could get $500 more for an item. He said he would just let the fustrated buyer leave the negative feedback. Now that Is Messed Up! DM

RE: Auctions on Fleebay are NOT binding contracts, according to them
I'm really not worried about the money. It was sent through Paypal, so Paypal will take care of sending me the money if and when all this falls through. I just feel cheated by Fleebay for them not following through with what they advertise, all the auctions are legal and bindings contracts. I know its just a small deal with this one transaction, but if Fleebay allows this type of behaviour because it is policy, then anything there is not binding. Sellers can walk away from a deal anytime they are unhappy with the results. That makes the winning bids simply offers for the items. DM

Auctions on Fleebay are NOT binding contracts, according to them
I just won an item on that website and now the seller is telling me that they didn't know the value of the item before it was placed. Bottom line, seller refuses to send the item and wants to refund my money back and after talking to an associate of the website was told there is a "loop hole" that allows sellers to refuse honoring the results of a listing. This would be a cancellation of the entire sale without the approval of the buyer, in case the seller makes a mistake. So if you are selling something on that site and are not satisfied with the results, trade 1 possible negative feedback for the money saved on a poorly bidded listing. I also need to express that giving the negative feed back to the seller could mean retaliation by them posting negative feedback to the buyer as well. So sellers can go out and gamble on their listings, and if they lose big, just dont pay up. Legal and binding contract, as they advertise.... I think not DM

Different Kyosho Soarus Models
I just picked up a couple Kyosho Soarus' from the basement of a guy I was selling some sailboat parts to. The 2 gliders I got are the Kyosho Soarus and the Soarus II. When I looked them up, I see a bunch of 1600mm models. Mine are 1800 and 1900 models. The Soarus II having the 1900 wing also has ailerons, the plain Soarus is R/E and motor only. First off, are these gliders any good? What kind of flying are they rated for? (aerobatic, hotliner, basic learning of full house models) When were these produced? I know the 1600mm version is still available, but what about these? Both kits are perfect. Should I just build them and bash on them? Or is there a collectable value that someone else might enjoy them more that I. God knows I have more planes that I need... but never more than I want. Just thought about it, should this be in the electric forum? The model seems more like a powered glider. DM

RE: First Kit Build
LumaSea is exactly right. You now have the skills, probably already did before you started on the FF Gillows kit, seeing how well you've executed it. But get a good trainer. The Bridi trainer (RCM also has copies) kits are awsome. They are not die-cut or laser cut, but are machine cut and sanded, which is what I prefer. They are no longer in production, but are available often on the eb*y and here as well. another good line is the old Great Planes trainer kits. Great Planes made a 20, 40 and 60 series trainer, in kit form never as an ARF, which had a fully symetrical airfoil. These were also machine cut kits and sell very high on the auction sites, but are worth it, IMHO. They were named GP Tainer 20, GP Trainer 40. etc.. GP also made a line of "PT" (perfect trainers) trainers. The PT 20, PT 40, etc.. was a flat bottom airfoil and not as good as the older Trainer series, but sell way less and easier to find and are only good to fly as a trainer, not very aerobatic like the previously mentioned. Be willing to spend about $150 for one of the performance trainers (fully sym. airfoil) kits. Since they are found mostly on auction sites, they can vary and you can get lucky, but most often they sell high, everyone wants one... even two. Their is another I would recomend over all of these, and that would be a Carl Goldberg Falcon 56, in either the MKII or MKIII version. The Falcon is a shoulder wing and has a Fully sym. airfoil but also has a built up, airfoiled stab as well, which really improves on flying characteristics as well as lightning out the tail. The fuse is also built from 1/8" lightply with lightning holes in them. Being a shoulder mounted wing, it wll be much more suited towards performance than a high, or cabin mounted platform. The original Falcon 56 had a balsa fuse and was a bit weaker for the beginer, and they sell very high, I wouldn't sugest getting that one. But a MKII or MKIII sell for less than the Bridi and GP trainers. Reason is, the Goldberg kits were die cut. Even the liteply was die cut. So care is needed and some initial prep work (sanding) to the components would need to be done. But you will save lots of money since these do sell a bit lower. There are also a 1/2a version as well as a 60 size Sr. Falcon. Both sell very high. The 1/2a is too small to really learn off of and the Sr. is the better flyer over the 56s but again sell for at least $150. The MKII kit is starting to gain value to collectors as well and are selling high too, So I would recomend the MKIII for the value. I also think that the CG Falcons design were the highest produced kits. After a trainer a quick to build and easy to fly sport plane would be good. Jemco had a line of "fun scale" models of the war birds. Never had one but I'm sure someone here can comment on the kits, again, gotta hunt them down as well as they too are no longer in production... sad really. Hope this helps some.. DM

RE: Bridi Super Kaos Build
Wow! That has got to be the nicest Kaos yet. Damn good job on that one Scott. I feel what you are doing is exactly why we build our planes in the first place. Good idea to do as much as you can, and want to, on the Super Kaos before going into the UFO. The more you do, the more chances for mistakes, but the more you learn. Thats the only why you get better. Scott's 11th rendition of the Kaos would surely make even Joe proud (as if he isn't proud of the Kaos design already) The question was if you should lengthen the forward section of the fuse opposed to notching the LE of the wing all to accommidate the nose retract... a pic from 8178 shows how it was and is done. Have you though of starting a build thread? We all love to see them... DM

RE: WHY IS RCU SCREWED UP?????????
There has been quite a few issues since RCU went down a while back. Great to here that they're concerned and plan to fix it. Until then, some will probably move on to other sites. Scott started a Classic Pattern only forum, and then theres that RC site with "Groups" (figure out the name) that many are changing to. Both great sites and are growing. I visit that Group site every now and then, but I think since more sites could actually hurt something like our little interest in this hobby. RCU is like the largerest shopping mall for RC. This forum gets a lot of viewers just looking in since they are already logged on to the site. Would be nice if we stuck together, in the bigger numbers, in one site. This being the most popular, just makes sense to stay here... IMHO. Myself, I'm staying. Been here for about 6 years. Another month of waiting for the issues to be handled doesn't seem so bad, but I do side with Freq. Flyer, it does suck right now. DM
