RE: HOUSTON
JP, There are several to choose. If he ends up on the North-East region, Jetero Field is likely the best option. If in the due North area (known as Woodlands) he might look up Don Ramsey and Tri-County Barnstormers in Conroe. If on the North-West area, there is SpaceCityRC (lots of pattern activity there), as well as Scobee Field (public field - has paved runway with boxlines). I'm sure there are a couple other options I have missed. All fields will require an AMA license. Houston is a busy area for pattern so he should have no problem finding one of us to help him find the best field. Regards, Mark Hunt

RE: Harmony Bipe
Here are some pics of the nose area. The chin is removable via an MK magic box. The batteries are held in place with just velcro strip and a strap on lite ply right behind the motor. You can see the big (understatement) ESC just mounted to some of the lite ply structure. The motor is performing very nice and is front mounted with a rear bearing support. Currently running a 22x12wide making about 2600+watts.

RE: Coupling question
I can attest to Bryan's addiction to obtaining the holy grail of design and trim...heck, he made me re-draw his design stuff more times than I can count...:) But I can also attest to his results and willingness to help improve the trim quality of anyone's airplane. -mark

Nice work Thomas! I am curious about the fuse construction....I assume you ended up with a fully sheeted fuse after applying all the stringers? -mark

RE: Alloy / fibre tube fuse frame?
Seen a friend use c.f. tubing and wood gussets (laser cut gussets) in combination with the original wood kit parts....not for scale, but for weight and rigidity. I must say, the method seems to have achieved both. Good luck, Mark

Chad, Beautiful work. Sometimes detailing out the plans is more work than drawing/modeling the actual aircraft. But it is very satisfying when completed. Here is a set of mine. Best Regards, Mark

Nice work! I wonder if the pitch speed of the fan blades will need to be higher than that of the propeller to create a positive pressure behind the fan?... Good luck, mark

RE: OS 1.60 for a 2x2
ORIGINAL: flywilly What pipe is he running? And what pipe length (plug to first baffle)? Thanks! Excellent craftsmanship, by the way
Flywilly, Hatori header (shorter than most others and has a 3/4" diameter outlet). ES 2 stroke pipe - 20.5"long (2" OD), 3/4" diameter inlet. I believe it to be ES #ES2C140S80 1/16" gap between header and pipe. Viton coupler. No tuning required. Low needle, 1/8 turn open from stock. Best Regards, Mark

RE: OS 1.60 for a 2x2
I will pass on your comment to Art:) He does exceptional work. All paint - 10lbs.7oz. And yes, those are retracts. He uses a piece of viton tubing to join his pipe to the header. -mark

RE: OS 1.60 for a 2x2
Art Wagner in the North Dallas area has been flying FAI competitively for years with an OS160/bladder tank setup. You can ask anyone who has seen him fly, he does not lack for power with this setup. BTW, he has OS headers available for sale. -mark

Like there is a choice..... On the other hand, you could drive to each field between rounds leaving a plane all setup at each location....

RE: Airplane stand
Jarvis, Nice of you to notice...yes, I drew the first stand and made myself one, but I am not in the stand building business and although the plans are free, Ed Valls builds an exquisite version of what I originally drew up a while back. He was very kind in asking for my permission before making these available, although he didn't have to. I know he and Bryan tweaked the stand here there, making a nice stand even better. If you are so inclined though, build away from the free plans, but be warned, Ed and Bryan's version is hard to beat! Best Regards, Mark

North Dallas 2011'
To those interested: The North Dallas Pattern Contest is listed in the back of the K-factor as the first weekend in October. This is incorrect and I apologize for the confusion. The correct dates for the contest is 8th and 9th. Flyer: http://www.ndrcc.com/images/stories/NDRCC_Files/Contest%20Flyer%202011.pdf Best Regards, Mark, D6
