RE: Hyde Mounts
If you absolutely cannot get a Hyde or Budd mount...it is worth the trouble to make a similar version. Any airframe will benefit from a soft mount. Ola Fremming has a nice tutorial on his website: http://www.ofremmi.info/HowTo/Hyde-mount/HydeMount.htm Best Regards, Mark

RE: Strato 210 info/help?
Thanks for all the interesting information guys! Dad said that he remembers his Strato being an very good flyer. I was too young to really remember it well and he was having a tough time finding an old picture of it. Interesting that it has a fairly large vertical fin and sub fin. Thanks again, Mark

RE: Canalisers, fins and things, and whirlygigs..
Jeff, my guess would be that its a whirlyfin. Nat Penton's work goes back so many years. His simple solution comes from a simple understanding of center of lift, cg, and rotational airflow. Keeping the center of lift and cg near one another (in all axes) promotes more pure flying in all axes. Small whirlyfingigs located some significant distance away from the cg can help certain issues, but if made large enough to have significant effect in one axis, will likely be a detriment in another. -mark

RE: Engine Mount for YS 140
Hyde mounts - find at central hobbies....the "A" mounts do not require a nose ring..the "ARI" come with an integrated nose ring HCMYS140A YS 140 $119.95 HCMY140ARI YS 140-DZ $189.95 I think there is now a budd mount with a nose ring attachment available too. www.buddengineering.com Good luck, mark

RE: Cajun Nationals Crowley, LA. Oct 24 & 25
Buddy once loaned me a YS engine (no questions asked), then promptly did a complete rebuild on mine while I was flying the 2nd round (new gaskets/ring/o-rings/head gastket). By the 3rd round my engine was back in my airplane running like new. He refused to take a penny for the parts/help and time. He is the kind of guy that makes you want to pay it forward. Thanks again Buddy! -mark

RE: The New Pentathlon Evolution
MT, You got your power system....time to get building![:D] I'm not familiar with the mounting of the A60....if possible, I would add a new firewall in order to rear mount the motor....if possible, fasten it at the front too using ply at the nose-ring former location.... Here is my Evo#2....12 flights - 10lbs.4oz. -Mark

RE: My first 2X2 pattern plane construction
Very nice work on your first 2x2 meter! I think that your issue with weight on your wings is mainly from your balsa....if you can get very light balsa, you will have a very light airplane. Best Regards, Mark www.insightrc.com

RE: canopy latch
I used the Bob Knoll method which utilizes a single MK magic box. A little tricky to get aligned just right, but it can be done. One thing to note about the magic box...the pin must be inserted into the box in a near vertical fashion. This comes into play if using pins at one end of the canopy (pivot type action of the canopy). With no pins, I added a piece of a/c ply near the top rear of the canopy to resist side to side motion. It also helps if the magic box is actuated under slight pressure, so it will not rattle.....so far, some foam tape is doing the job nicely. -mark
