RE: YS-170CDI Flight Report
The 18.5 12 is used primarily for noise issues. Of the glow models at the worlds,I think Team Japans engines were the quietest. 12 pitch seems to be the magic number for that. In my testing, However, the midrange on the 12 pitch wpn has a step feel like getting on the pipe with a two stroke and it can get fast on you quick if your not on top of it. The 11-11.5 pitch props in the 19-19.5 range can be made as quiet and work the best overall IMHO most constant curve and better brake and speed control particularly if you Carbon the prop and stiffen it up ( a little trick I learned from Lockhart[;)] Your better off extending the blade for noise reduction and sticking with the 11-11.5 pitch range. I`m not a fan of the WPN series of blades except for the 10 pitch when I was running the YS1.6 Bryan

RE: Valiant New JAS Plane
Hey Guys I was adding this to airplanes in the 80`s for an FAI pilot named Paul Verger. we were all flying" Piorion " designed Eclipse`s back then and Paul felt he needed less wiggle at neutral on rudder but it had a neg effect that he mixed out ...down pitch with rudder Well I figured out what the problem was TAIL HEAVY [:D] but he never changed it. so ,, this has been around for a while. The Strake and the fence work together the fence gives the Strake stability and the fence helps make the Strake more powerfull at low throttle settings. the fence magnifies the strake and gives you the drage chute effect I talked about BTW!! The fence is set up at O inc. Tommy BEWARE!! it will not fix a mix condition if you airplane has knife to elevator mix at all, it will double it! A rear C/G set up will pitch down with rudder and have a roll coupling effect as well , so if the airplane is not trimmed perfect to begin with it will hurt the airplane more than help it . The same with the T-can fix one thing Hurt another. I tried theT- Can on the Valiant at Jason request ( every one knows I hate to add this stuff on my airplane I don`t believe in any of it the T-can did add a little more rudder power though) but it made my airplane roll couple ,,, I did not have to add one click of Trim to the entire airplane it did not change any dynamics of the flight package other than hard rudder roll coupling that this airplane does not have. First, the Strake fence setup was added out of Depron and tapped on ,,,it was such a great improvement to every aspect of the flight ( not one maneuver had a neg. effect, Every Maneuver improved a good deal) I made one of wood and Carbon and glued it to the airframe shortly after. So I say try it any way you like, but don`t expect it to fix anything it will magnify any weakness your set up has. Bryan

RE: Valiant New JAS Plane
CW the improvements are ,, very solid centering ,more powerfull rudder at low speeds ,(stalls ECT) removes the wiggle ,touchyness from the rudder inputs around neutral less rudder needed for knife edge flying. it makes the airplane feel like its pulling a drag chute. Bryan

Use a 19-11 APC or 18-12 APC the right and down thrust is molded in the front nose ring just line it up with that. Use a Hyde LR 85 Motor mount Bryan

Matt, I think our good luck came from my "Irish team hat" Given to me by Shane Robinson in Portugal this year. had a great time Guys. I don`t usually fly,Much, after the Nats But I`m going to make this one again. Matt you gotta stop Lying about not practicing too, [:D] I had a good time with the P09 pattern in a 15 mile an hour cross wind as well, can`t wait till next season with the Valiant!! Bryan

RE: Comp ARF Valiant
Good Advise SGSTERLING! you are correct. you can see my trim advise on this airplane in a prior post , You have to come into this airplane project with a fresh thought proccess as my trim philosophys are different from others. A fresh set of Expo settings and expectations will be required so be prepaired You will rely more on rudder for perfect rolls not , an aft CG However, all axis will have more power with less sensitivity and there will be a more precise control of the airplane throughout all flight axis. As Jason Stated no one is perfect But Comp Arf has stived to my sitisfaction to be very precise with my settings So If Jason and I are Satisfied I hope you will be too [:D] Jason and I have far more influence and quality control with this Model and have worked hard with Comp Arf to assure the best model. I will have periodic updates on my website , Some of My Tweaking and ramblings on the Valiant But ,I`m totally redoing it right now so please be patient lol Bryan

RE: Valiant New JAS Plane
The manual for the" Valiant" will be made in the next few weeks for the Glow version set up, Firewall install radio install ECT. while I build my newest Model it`s Just been a very busy season with the worlds ,two new designs, ECT. The cg setting is 1/8 inch behind the center of the wing tube if you are using a glow motor and have the servo`s in the stabs the battery will need to go to the firewall if you are using a CDI you may be able to move the battery back behind the landing gear ,,,this all depends on the weight of the Stab, one extra ounce back there changes things Fast, we are trying to keep the stabs at no more than 120 grams each for best results But, the best way totrim and check c/g after building is, fly a left knife edge if the airplane pulls to the belly at all move the c/g forward if it goes to the canopy move it back a little at a time. The factory has set the airplane to my specs. so trimming is an easy task. because every airplane is a little different and none are perfect you may need up to 2% dowm elevator mix for downlines if any, this will be the only mix required if you follow My directions you can e-mail me or pm me if you have any questions. BTW the kit has a set of formers for the tank mount Make sure you don`t put the tank n the floor make some kind of crutch to keep it off the floor my proto formers wrap the tank completely But when CARF converted my formers they changed them slightly so use good judgement to keep the tank low and, to keep it from moving I have been working with CARF on a Dorsal strake inhancement for fin power enhancement I`m excited with the results ,,,it works better than the T-can I`ll post pics of it tomorrow Bryan

RE: Oxai
I want to thank a few Guys that helped me put My Bipe project together First Dean Funk ,,,Master Graphics Guy and computer Geek LOL HE was able to convert My hand drawing from Paper to computer,,, then did some 3-D rendering for me on the Wicked Wings I built also the Fierce Foamy Bipe was a concept for proving My radical thinking on a few theorys Dean built at least 3 different versions ,,so he and I could prove the an/diheadral wings and make sure that tiny rudder was going to be enough. he didn`t beleive me LOL after Dean plotted the 3-d Files for me, for the wings and some 12" close to scale side profiles Mark Hunt transfered them into a cad file and had them laser cut for me and also cut some foam wings so I could make the Molds for the Proto. revrese built Both these guys are first rate friends and Masters in their own designing and building It was great to be able to work with them I hope they earn some repect for the Effort they sure earned Mine Bryan

RE: Valiant New JAS Plane
Hey, thats Great Chad! ,,, you did look at me funny when I first told you how to do it Aye!! I`m glad you stuck with it and tried it again and I hope it pays off for you in Portugal sure would like to see you in the Finals. I know you followed it out to the letter and helped others get thier airplanes set up Correctly, Now, the only problem is I can`t beat you any more LOL Ryan ,,, My trim methods have been hashed out again and again it`s not fruitfull for me to beat on it any longer just research this site I don`t feel like aurguing tonight. LOL I have pulled my triangulation Article from my web site because I want to refine it ,,It started out as a long winded response to a question on upline Pull and it was not very well planned or Written. I hope to produce a video and Chart this fall to answer most questions. I already have a distributor line up to sell it. We have to understand,, Trimming is only as good as the pilots Or,,, Schedules demands the more demand ,,, the better the airplane ends up. "If" you can follow though and stay off the radio programming. I`m know QQ designes very good airplanes and they may not need my trimming methods ,,if your happy with them just transfer those methods to your next project I`m sure it will be fine. However Im never happy [:D] Hey Gary, I hope your prepaired this Year [;)] see ya'll at the Nats, Bryan

Hi Colin, The white version is going to be around 1700.00 US and the painted version around 2000.00 As far as Jason flying it at the Worlds He Probably will not fly it. he has only had it a few weeks , and because of other travel commitments may not have the time to work his setup and be comfortable with it. So ,,, we will see! I will have mine at the U.S. nats I wish I could fly it as well as Jason can LOL But I do enjoy it`s Grace just the same[:D] I do miss the Wistle But love the purity better.. I just looked on the Comp- Arf page they have the wing span and length reversed so I will have this changed asap Bryan

Hi Adrian Yes I decided to rename the Bipe after I painted and test flew it and then, used that name on the Comp-Arf Mono instead . The original name for the Mono was "Xiphos"But another company came out with a similar name and I didn`t want the Confusion between the two airplanes and MF. "Shark" was obviously chosen for the fins on the bipe and the cool shape I used on the wings and stabs Thanks for the Tip on the Prop Matt, sounds like a great Idea How is your new project comming ,,,any Photo`s Bryan

Hi Torben It will be made glow and Elec. The electric version will have a removable top hatch but not a removable chin the glow will have a removable chin, One the features of this airplane is the sharp crisp snaps its capable of,,, up ,down, Knife,,,, the inc. arrangements are different from any Bipe currently produced. it also flys in the wind very solid and stable.

Hey Jon ,, I know you ment no Harm ,,,and I put the blame on myself for trusting too many people 4, this was not some conspiracy to slow leak it ,, lol I don`t play games like that ,Heck I wish we could have got it out last year But I have obligations to keep And for the record I know who let it out the CIA has tracking you know [sm=punching.gif],, and no Jon was not the Guy [:D] it`s not a real big deal there have been changes made to that airplane since those phot`s Jon I wanted to got to the Harvest contest with this thing But the Manf. asked me not to [:o] wanted to go the Prop Nuts again the Manf. asked me not to,, He wanted no pictures of it till My Scheme was completed and the airplane was in production ,,,just because of the speculation issues. Again no harm was done But the Cookie was not quite baked LOL. My airplane is 10.8 pounds with the CDI this is a good weight for the fist one out of the molds. Bryan
