RE: EFLITE POWER 52 POWER LOSS
Almost every time what you describe is due to overpropping the system. Something somewhere (probably the motor) is being asked to operate beyond its maximum current rating. The times when this is not the case, the culprit is usually ESC timing. Time to use the old reliable watt meter to check out the power system.

RE:
The only downside to a higher C rating is some added weight. The C rating has nothing to do with flight time. The prop and motor will try to draw all they need. If they can't get it, then some of the power is lost in heat. If they can get it, then the power will go to the prop. More is better and more is also heavier.

Hobby King plays a great role by providing rock bottom prices with no support. The problem is that people want both the rock bottom prices and the support. It doesn't work that way. If you want support go to one of the higher end suppliers.

RE: Lipo question...
Just as a note, LIPo batteries should measure 4.2 volts per cell when fully charged. If you have a 3 cell that reads 11.2 volts, then it is discharged. 12.6 volts would be correct for a fully charged 3S battery. I don't recommend using that battery.

RE: Futaba RX confusion
ORIGINAL: mach2 you can get a new 617 Rx on ebay for 69.95 shipped. I may have gone with a JR or spektrum had I known more. Futaba is expensive and limited. all those plug and play parkzone planes aren't compatible with futaba. Id like to try some of those little foamies some time, so ill have to use an expensive futaba Rx. Some guys use those hobbyking orange receivers. I personally wouldn't risk an expensive plane to save 50 bucks though. Maybe on one of those foamies.... www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__14300__OrangeRx_Futaba_FASST_Compatible_8Ch_2_4Ghz_Receiver.html
I'm using the FRSky receivers now. They are a clone of the R617 Futaba receiver but with nicer fit and finish and a slightly smaller case. $24 each at Hobby King. The Futaba receiver isn't any better.

I agree. it is either a bad solder joint or a bad ESC. Resolder, test and then either fly or replace the ESC.

RE: Flyzone Albatros TX-R airplane - Don't buy it unless you have a computer radio
My suggestions is to apply the rudder to both sticks. That way you can turn on the right stick and, if you want to do a hammerhead, you can hit the rudder with the left stick as you are used to doing with an aileron plane.

RE: Stupid newby to electric question
Drill a hole in the firewall. You will also need another hole for the wires. Most of us mount the motors on these types of planes using a cross mount simply screwed into the plywood. Most motors have a cross mount included.

RE: drawing too many amps?
Actually, the Hobbico Rimfire motors are grossly over rated. They are good motors but you need to take the performance ratings with a grain of salt. It is important for you to know that reducing the throttle doesn't reduce the current. It merely reduces the amount of time the motor can draw the current. Reduced throttle should keep your motor from frying but, for your information, it won't do anything to help an ESC from frying. It is folly to overprop a motor and/or ESC. Nothing good can come from it. If you want to use the motor you have, then use less prop so that you can fly full throttle if you want to. Doing anything else will result in premature failure. If you want the enhanced performance then use a motor adequate for driving the prop you prefer. Understand that this adds weight and nothing good can come from adding weight either - CG issues, wing loading etc. KMS are pretty overrated as well, by the way. The reason I don't fly fuel is cost, mess, noise, smell, inability to restart in flight etc. etc. etc.

RE: this is why i hate e-flite
In order to calibrate an ESC, remove the prop, put the throttle stick to full, now plug in the battery. The ESC should go through some sort of beeping routine and then stop. Move the stick to off. Now it is calibrated and should work normally.

You may need to calibrate the ESC. Unplug the battery. Remove the prop. Put the throttle full on. Plug in the battery. The ESC should go through some sort of beeping routine and then stop. Move the throttle stick to off. Now it should work normally.

RE: Minimum Hinge Gap
Most prehinged control surfaces on E-Flite products are stiff and tight. If it were a 3D plane I would worry about it. On the Bonanza I would just finish the assembly and go fly. You'd be surprised how much power those servos have.

It's pretty hard to go wrong with the Parkzone foamies and the new Z Foam planes from E-Flite. Mulitplex also has some great flyers of good quality. I don't buy foamies much any more but the above models have done well by me.

RE: Why Futaba does not offer BNF?????
No question that the Horizon PNP and BNF concept is brilliant marketing and has been extremely successful. Personally, I hate the concept when it comes to owning a model myself. The reason is the variable quality of components the importers use. For example, the Parkzone motors are easily the worst motors in the industry. There is nothing with a brand name on it that is remotely as bad. A manufacturer who would sell those under a brand would go out of business. I'll choose and buy my own motor, thank you. I operate most of my birds on 4S. That means I need an ESC designed for the purpose let alone a lower KV motor. I have distinct preferences for servos as well. I wish, instead, that Parkzone would offer all their models in ARF. I would probably buy all of them. I own quite a few Horizon birds (mostly Hangar 9 and E-Flite) because they are well designed products. The fact that they aren't PnP is plus for me.

RE: RT Models – Mark Turner - rip off
I have some amateur legal advice for you. You may be able to file a small claims suit in his local district court by letter and/or phone. If so, then the suit would be significantly less expensive than hiring a lawyer. You would need to travel to his location for the hearing but it sounds like you're willing to do that anyway. I've done this twice with customers who ripped me for around $2000 each. The first one settled with me prior to the hearing. The second one was a basket case. I won the suit. He didn't pay, but the judge did turn him over to the DA for credit card fraud and he did spend 9 months in jail on the criminal charge. Small claims courts are pretty busy and many will not allow you to file the complaint from afar. You might even have to travel to the venue to file the suit. Give his local small claims court a call to see what you can do. Another alternative is to hire a private detective to instill some fear into him. Most of them will do some intimidation work and it is far less expensive than hiring a lawyer.

RE: T-28 upgrade for PK-T28
Putting in a motor that is shorter is simply a matter of using spacers between the motor or mount and the firewall. You can use virtually anything that is an appropriate weight and power for the model. In my T-28 I used a Scorpion 3008-1220 with a 10X5 prop. All that was required was putting some 3/8" nylon spacers between the firewall and motor mount. No mod was required to the cowl. The fit was perfect with the added spacers and the combination worked with the stock ESC. And there was no change in the center of gravity.

RE: brushless outrunner 480 prop size
Perhaps. It would depend on the speed at which it spins, the weight of the prop, the current rating of the motor and, most importantly, the model which it is intended to pull. You might want to put the details into one of the motor calculators to see how things work out.

Yes. PNP is a radioless and batteryless version of the kit. Belly landing is not only possible but very popular with those who land on grass.
