RE: Gorilla glue lay up
Gorilla glue (like any polyurethane glue) expands as it cures. This forces the glue into the porous materials in the layup. This helps to prevent voids. I use polyurethane glues in all of my foam layups.

RE: Almost Perfection - Scratch Build
The perfection is an excellent airplane. I had one for about a year and kick myself for selling it. This design really convinced me of the value of tip sails / plates on the wingtips.. The longer fuse made it much more gracefule in the air than a standard stick. I'm going the other way on my scratch build and am scaling up to a 25cc gas / glow engine. The wing will be built up from laminated foam ribs with a standard D-tube construction. I'll cut the fuse out of foam (to establish dimensional criteria) and laminate balsa to the outside (for structural rigidity). The I'll cut out the needed areas for components in the fuse.

RE: the godfather
Mike, Tom goes by the user name Tom Perry here on RCU. He used to build large gassers from Husky chainsaws. He sold a few on Ebay as well. He's sometimes know as "The Engine Doctor". I've purchased several engines from him and gained a lot of good advice.

RE: need crank welding services for my BME twin
Billzair, If you have the abiliy to fab a twin crank from two singles I'd be interested as well. I've got all the components I need to make a twin 50cc engine out of a pair of 25cc engines. I just don't have the equipment or knowledge to make the crank.

RE: A word about Keith Baker and BME Engines
OK I have to add my input to this thread. I met Keith and his wife many years ago at a fly-in here in Austin TX. At the time I was new to RC and didn't know much about RC engines. After speaking with for awhile and looking at his work I was so convinced I bought two engines on the spot and ordered two of his BME26 engines which he quickly shipped. Over the years I spoke with him several times and purchased several more engines and a Falkon ignition when was carrying their product. I corresponded with him multiple times on these boards and always learned a great deal. I've never had any trouble with any of his products or advice. I still don't see how it was humanly possible for him to keep up with the demands of a finicky public. Keith is a mechanical genius and a total class act. There is much that manufacturers could learn from him.

RE: Echo BME twin
Tim, Have you tried fitting one of the Mac25 cylinders to the BME case? I tried fitting a cylinder to a case and found that the mounting lugs line up after rotating the cylinder a few degrees. This would mean that the exhaust would not be exactly perpendicular to the crankshaft centerline. A custom exhaust header would probably need to be created. As long as the relationship between the ports, case, and piston skirt remain the same it might work. Unfortunately I don't have the equipment or skills to cut / weld a crankshaft or I'd try it myself.

KI8FR, I think what you've pictured is a belt driven reduction unit. Byron used to make a similar unit to obtain realistic prop size / speed for warbird applications (P51 notably).

RE: 4 stroke conversion oiling
A related series of questions might be useful here: 1) Can 4 stroke glow engines (OS, Enya, magnum, YS, etc...) be run inverted? 2) If the answer to #1 is yes due to the oil content of the fuel, can the same principle be applied to 4 stroke conversions? 3) If the answer to #2 above is yes, does it make a difference if the ignition/fuel mix is magneto (gas), gas / glow, or just glow (alcohol / oil)? I'm really interested in the feedback on this one. Thanks

RE: mcculloch 28 vs homie 25
rollmyown, I was guessing that you had TIG welded the exhaust flange onto the cylinder. Apparently you've found a way to make those aluminum gas welding rods work. I had thought that the exhaust temperature would eventually soften any material deposited. Since you're using MAPP gas you're using a much higher temperature during the weld. Are you using any other methods like a special flux or pre-heating the cylinder? Your method is a real problem solver for the exhaust on this engine, the exhaust on a weedie 18cc, and the intake on a Poulan 46. Thanks again
