RE: Stealth race?
The RC jet is there, it's just a lot of full scale flying first.

RE: FEJ LIBERTY LARGE
Jeremy, I did read your thread as it was progressing and found it to be very informative. I wish I had your mad paint skills!! Anyway, I have not decided to do anything with the spars at the moment and doubt they would fail even with the bolt as carbon spars do not suffer the same weaknesses as aluminum spars. But, I will give it further review and update you later.

RE: FEJ LIBERTY LARGE
I did not respond because I have not completed the one that I am working on. If I was to comment at this point it would be totally positive. Over the last few years I have had the pleasure and headache of building several Fly Eagle jets; • F-100 • F-14 • F-86 • F-4 • Liberty Large • 1/7th F-15E Other jets that I’ve built over the last couple of years; • ModelBauUSA Tornado • Hot Spot in progress • L-39 in progress • 1/6th F-16 (two) Some of these aircraft are better than others but none of them were bad. As for the Liberty, I must say this is one of the best, well designed, robust aircraft I have seen from FEJ. I’m not saying that there are no issues but most of these are builder preferences. One flap and one aileron were warped but both parts were replaced without a moment of hesitation (FEJ has never failed to support me with any issues I have had). The Liberty has well designed parts and for the most part the parts fit together very well. If I could afford to this is one that I would add to my own collection but then again I love everything that flies…

RE: FEJ products announce 2011
Oli, the wing in the video is a half span and not the wing tips, no commercial plane would be able to support the aircraft weight if lifted by the wing tips.

RE: FEJ products announce 2011
The fuselage structure will be important however equally as important is the portion of the wing spar that extends into the fuselage and the mounting system. It is not practical to make the top and bottom wing skins of different products so in any case it is a compromise of what will do the job best, without failure. I am certain that there is a better process and product (end grain balsa, vertical grain balsa, aluminum honeycomb panels...) but is it affordable and is it absolutely necessary. Can we simply acknowledge that FEJ is making strides to improve the product and give suggestions instead of criticism.

RE: FEJ products announce 2011
Oli, I'm well aware of what you meant and I was not trying to be disrespectful however to imply that their method would not work is incorrect. As for how Boeing does it I have seen both the process and rigs first hand ( the cylinders are spaced over the entire wing as the wing tips are not required to carry the entire load which is not at all like hanging a plane between two chairs and piling sand bags all over the fuselage). I spent 10 years working for Boeing and McDonnell Douglas and found the process to be very interesting. Whether it be done by hydraulic cylinders or weights added to simulate calculated loads at specific points the results is the same. Now i'm sure the load (bottles of water) applied was not calculated or placed in the exact locations, the point was to display that the wings are capable of carrying a significant load without failure.

The water in the bottles distort the images behind them. Why would they post fakes? Really does anyone believe that they would go through such effort to try and deceive us?

RE: FEJ products announce 2011
James and FEJ, Thank you for posting photos of your process to continually improve your product. I for one can appreciate your efforts to overcome deficiencies and strive to build a safer more enduring product. I understand the method you are employing to emphasis stress loads that your wings are capable of handling. Please remember that the wing will receive more positive G-loads throughout its life than negative G's. However I do see your efforts to win over those that can't be won, and good luck. Oli, I do not doubt your intelligence or commitment to a better product, however your methods leaves something to be desired. And for the record yes this method of wing stress testing has been utilized by large aircraft manufacturers in the past. Try hanging a 747 between two chairs and loading sand bags on the fuselage. Sometimes we need to step back and look at the intent before we criticizes.

Ok, after two days of head scrathching I can't get the canopy to work correctly. Does anyone have photos of a working canopy. A link to instructions for this plane would be great too.

RE: Custom fittings
Perhaps you misunderstand my plan, the block is a custom made item to remove all of the T's, Y's and four way fittings however it is not for everyone and I thank you for your input. I have noticed after building many different aircraft the standard assortment of fittings available restricts my layout options. Having the ability to build my own fittings opens up the possibilities to set up my planes the way I want to. At the end of the day it's what works for you. The photos attached displays the mess I am eliminating with these manifolds but please understand, what I am offering is the opportunity for anyone to have a custom manifold that fits their design. The manifold is 1/4" x 1 1/8" and total volume is less than 1/2 of the volume it would take to fill all of the T's , Y's, and tubing it is replacing.

Custom fittings
After piecing together a web of T's and Y's to plumb my latest project I've decided (with the help of a machinist friend) it's time to produce custom fittings. Would there be any interest in these or is there something else you would like to see produced. The items in the photo can be ganged or re-configured.

RE: FEJ very large F/A18 maiden
The quickie was only a reference. What I said was that a prop plane and a jet of equal weight has the same potential of harm...and a smaller plane in the hands of an less skilled or unsafe person has a greater potential to cause disaster.

[quote]ORIGINAL: rhklenke [quote]ORIGINAL: foster4u It’s crap when you use it the way you guys do... If you can't understand that size is relative and a larger aircraft is much more stable, less likely to exceed 200mph, reduces velocity more rapidly due to drag, and usually has a lighter wing loading do to the increased area vs components installed size limitations and construction methodâ

Please invite your friend to come down and visit my office, I’m sure he will walk away with a new understanding of how things work when you doing and not sitting around guessing. We live by rules that you can only imagine and the US government watches our every move to insure that. I have walls plastered with rules and a safety record that extends more than 25 years without blemish. I don’t hide behind them and I don’t wait till they have been broken to enforce them. Oh yes, the offer is real and I welcome him...

RE: FEJ very large F/A18 maiden
No one is arguing that we should not follow the rules, but it is a shame when a person is attacked by a mob instead of assisting them in the effort to do things correctly. FYI, I live the rules; it’s my work, my life, my job. But I practice the art of preventive measures instead of the “wait till he screws up and pounce approach. I didn’t see you posting your concerns prior to the flight.
