RE: OS 120 FS
Hey guys i also have a question about this old os 120 with the split rockers. I just got one from a friend and it had sat for so long that the engine siezed. I got it to break loose and it started up and ran, has good compression but wont idle. I started to dissaseble the engine to clean it all out and possibly replace the cam and crank bearings. I got all the way to removing the wrist pin to take the piston and rod out and i cannot get the wrist pin to budge. ive tried getting a screw to bite in and also tried a cheap harbor frieght easy out to no avail, like i said it is a good engine and just needs some TLC. Anybody with some good advice on getting the wrist pin out would be great. oh and ive also tried to use pb blaster applying heat this thing is really stuck, i just dont want to damage it.

RE: Club FOX!
Well if you like performance i'd start breakin down soon. I remember when i was a little kid at the flight club, nobody had four strokes because just like you said they were heavy, complicated and underpowered not to mention twice the cost. But in the recent years that has all changed, when i moved and joined the area flight club to my surprise alot of the guys were running four strokes. To me they all seemed to be very reliable and powerfull. So i broke down and bought a saito 62a for my sig mayhem 40, and to my delight it was and still is probably the best engine i have ever owned. It is smooth running, reliable and powerfull not to mention a very nice looking quiality engine and it sounds great. I also have a ys 91 air chamber and let me tell you this, that engine, when swinging a 15x8 prop will lift an 11 pound airplane straight up like an anti gravity device. Granted most two strokes of equivalent displacement usually have more shaft horsepower than their four stroke counterparts but what the four stroke lacks in horse power vastly makes up for in torque meaning the power is imeadiatelly their when needed Dont get me wrong though, i still like and fly two strokes as well, theres nothing like a high performance piped two stroke, to me they seem to be great for speed. of course you not going to get 15000 screaming rpms out of a four stroke but because of the added torque of a four stroke that can easily be made up for with a higher pitched prop when it comes to speed. About the only thing that is the same today about four strokes is the price, but in my opinion its well worth the investment.

RE: Club FOX!
I have a question about the fox 45, maybe you can help me.My friend just recently gave me a fox 45 couldn't tell you the year exacly but it is the older style with the hump on the side of the cylinder and the butterfly in the throat of the carb. It also has the really short adjustment screw on the needle valve. Anyway my friend said when he got the engine it had never been run and he ran a few tanks through it. Well i also have a four star 40 that i put the engine in the other day when i took it to the club i messed with it in the pitts for a while and took off only for it to sputter around for a little bit and die. so i landed dead stick and decided to get some info on how to propely break it in. The engine seems to have some pretty good potential but i have never messed with this type of carb before, seems wierd to me. The last time i saw a fox engine my best friends father bought an old 45 used from a friend and he seemed to be very excited that he had obtained one. I've heard there legendary, but not alot of people at my club seem to know much about my engine. I just need to know what fuel and plug is best for it and where to set the needles for proper break in. If you or anybody could help me on this subject that would be awesome. Hope to hear back from you.

RE: Mayhem 40
the one i have has been sitting on the shelf of the hobby store i bought it from for almost a year since 11/08 they must be on back order or somthin but then again i live an hour away from the sig plant in montezuma so maybe its different in iowa, anyway its a cool plane and i love it. Hope you get one to.

RE: Mayhem 40
yeah i have a mayhem 40, but i run a saito 62 four stroke on it. dont think 2 stroke would be very good for 3d not enough torque. its an awesome plane though just remeber if you go with a two stroke keep the speed down unless you want to rip off some control surfaces.

RE: sig mayhem .40
well spencer321 if you want to do 3d with the mayhem your best bet isn't with a two stroke. 3d maneuvers demand an engine with alot of torque such as a four stroke. For instance I have a saito 62a four stroke on my mayhem 40 and it is the best engine i have ever had. I'm not saying that a two stroke wont do the trick but i think you will find that with a four stroke youll be able to swing a larger prop i run an apc 13x6 on mine, an os 46 more than likely wont do that. So overall a good four stroke for a mayhem 40 is just as good as an anti gravity device mine from takeoff will climb sraight up accelerating until its a black speck and probably then some. Another good tip i have for you is in the balancing portion of instuctions for the mayhem you will see a list of various c.g. balace points, or m.a.c. (mean arerobatic chord) i balanced mine @ 4 5/8 back from the leading edge of the wing. That is about right in between the sport and 3d threshold, the plane flies very well neutrally and it is very stable in straight level flight. when i go to bring it into a hover or harier it still has a tendency to nose over or settle into a mushy stall so if you plan to do some 3d right off the bat i recomend balancing it at least one more m.a.c. back from the first 3d balance point.( about 4 7/8 inches from the leading edge). ok thats my two cents on aerobatics and powerplant. As for servos i would say get some good digital servos for the ailerons i run jr ds 821's and for the rudder and elevator i used jr st 537's , now keep in mind this setup works for me you may find that a different setup may better accomodate your particular style of flying. just make sure that you use higher torque servous to accomodate those huge control surfaces. i hope that this will helpyou out alot because i own the same exact airplane and this is real field data from the horses mouth good luck and happy flyin.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
I run a saito 62a on my mayhem 40 with the supplied tank and I get about 12 to 14 mins before i dead stick. It may just be the displacement difference between the two engines (mine and yours) or youre running really rich which can make a big differnce in fuel consumption. My 62a turns an apc 13x6 @ about 9,300-9,400 rpm from a lean peak of about 9,700 rpm, just remember with a 72 youre slightly over powered on a mayhem 40, not saying thats bad granted you manage the throttle well. But with my 62 it lifts my mayhem straight up like a antigravity device and when i say that i get 12 to 14 mins before dead stick i hammer the throttle for aerobatics and maneuvers quiet a bit during flight. If you have the time and money going to a 62a would never be a bad thing slightly lighter and probably almost as much power if not the same, (newer lighter engine). Hope that helps. happy flyin

RE: Saito 62a vs OS FL 70
How do i order one? Can i get one from horizon? I looked at the horizon site earlier and i typed in my engine on the muffler search and it didn't show anything but what appeared to me to be turbo mufflers for rc cars and trucks.

RE: Saito 62a vs OS FL 70
Hey all you saito guys out there. I just purchased a saito 62a and stuck it on my sig mayhem 40, it runs great and it has plenty of power to do anything i need, it runs very reliable and it broke in very easy. Im new to four strokes and my question is whats up with this turbo muffler everyone is talkin about. I always love a boost in performance and sound, will this do it for me? And trust me i'm not the fool who will lean his engine to much thinking that it will safely give him more revs.

RE: Midstar no more
yes i do have to agree with( props forever )the misfortune of a radio system failure is always the worst. Theres never a good outcome. But in my 13 years of rc flyin experiece has tought me that when it comes to an rx failure the battery is 99.9 percent of the time the culprit. It could have been a number of things but the biggest thing is that if your battery was jared around or even thrown from the fuselage in the crash it could have knocked a cell bridge loose or shorted out the output wire which under the vibration of nitro engine will almost always rear its ugly head. On the subject of youre reciever surprisingly they are tougher than you think. As lomg as you wrap them in foam rubber and stow them propperly they really dont have the weight or inertia to damage themselves in a crash unless they are crushed by something else which would show obvious physical damage. And im not saying that its not your reciever but its more than likely your battery that caused the wreck. whatever it was i hope you figure it out and have many more safe flights. GOOD LUCK

RE: sig 3d mayhem?
ok red baron gary. heres my two cents i dont know if you've selected your motor system or not but if you are still going to go electric my best advice is to go with a good outrunner motor, they are simple and have loads of torque. And the best thing of all is they are simple, no gear box to mess with and most manufacturers produce their outrunners with a simple size rating such as20. size 40. size 60. size etc. all you have to do is chose your size, speed controll and coresponding battery and thats all there is to it. I have a mini ultra stick that i has a common sense outrunner on it and it was the one that the planes instuctions called for and it is pretty much an anti gravity device. But ultimately if it were me i would go nitro. I have a sig mayhem 40 with saito 62a four stoke and it is like a match made in heaven. So watever you chose to do good luck and happy flying.
