RE: Its Official... I Ordered a Kit
There is almost always somebody at the field on Sunday afternoon if the weather is good. I am an instructor in the club. My name is Dan and I usually have my "Air Force Veteran" ball cap on.

My Kavalier is one of my favorites. I love the vintage looks and it flies fantastic. I built mine last winter and flew it for the first time this spring. I wish I had built one a long time ago. You will love it Mr. Dogers.

RE: How do you fly your planes?
When I go to the field I always take one plane for burning holes in the sky and one for slow easy lazy type flying. Unfortuneatly there wasn't a choice for that. When I watch I like the guys who fly with finesse. It's much more entertaining.

RE: Why did you join the AMA?
I joined the AMA because it was required to join the club I am in. I don't have any problem with that. It isn't any diiferent than having to get a fishing or hunting license to do those things. A few years ago my club found ourselves looking for a new field. We were able to get an old land fill. And the sole reason the county let us use it is because of the liability insurance we get from the AMA. Everything else we presented to them to get the field meant pretty much nothing. I know alot of people out there like the MA magazine. I am just a guy who goes out on sunday flies my planes and chats with the guys. I am not interested in competing or even reading about it. The MA magazine is of no interest to me. Why won't they let me opt out of it. That's my only complaint.

The sec has an auto LVC so I bet that is it. I guess that means I need to go Lipo then doesn't it? I didn'y really want to do that but there's no point in up grading to brushless if the power is going to be worse off. Thanks Doc, for teaching me the ways of the electric realm.

brushless motor and nimh batteis
I want to uprgrade my Tower Vista ep to brusless. I bought a brusless motor and esc. I put the new motor on a test stand to basically fiddle with it and to try it out. I already have a couple of electrifly 2000mah nimh batteries I want to continue using. I hooked everthing up and the motor ran really good and it seemed to have great power but after maybe 30 seconds the motor slowed way down. It didn't stop all together but it did slow down enough that I know it wouldn't maintain flight if it were on my glider. The folding prop I am using is the one that came with the vista and I think it's a 8x4 prop. Could it possibly be the battery or maybe the motor? I have a 30A esc on it. The motor specs are as follows: Motor: 2830-8 Rpm/V: 1300KV Diameter: 28mm Length: 30mm Shaft: 3.17*45mm Weight: 52g Wire Winds: 8 Ri: 0.075 Idle Current: 1.1A Load current: 14.3A ESC: 30A Power (Watt): 150 Cells Ni-Cd/Ni-MH: 6-12 Cells Li-Po: 2-4 Prop:9x6/10x5/10x6

RE: In or Out... switch question
I agree with woodie. I have a GP Ultimate bipe that had this type of switch set up. I was flying the bipe one time and the prop and spinner came of in flight. It vibrated very hard and my plane became unresponsive to my inputs. As luck would have it the control surfaces stopped at a point where the airplane have enough elevator and right turn on the ailerons that is just all by itself gently circled until it landed on its own. There wasn't a scratch on it. I saw that the switch was in the off postion when I retrieved the bipe.

The PTS mustang is NOT a good trainer
I just had to start this thread. Everyone is familiar with Hanger 9's PTS P-51 mustang. Well, the LHS here is always pushing these dumb*** airplanes and something just has to be said. A beginner in my club has one and has been training on one all summer. I am one of the instructors that have been training him. Even this late in the year he still hasn't learned to turn it to the right. In the beginning of the season I told him that a traditional trainer would probably be the way to go. I told him I understood that spending more money may not sound good to him but a regular trainer would be better. He hesitated but he went out and bought a Hanger 9 Alpha 40 and we flew it this past weekend. It was unbelievable to him how much easier it was to fly. He was able to turn right like a pro and my guess would be he will be soloing really soon. My main reason for this thread is to rant a little. I get tired of the hobby industry always coming up with ways to sell newbies crap. These types of planes appeal to the ignorant because they look like a "real" plane and these hobby companies feed on this. I will add that the PTS Mustang is a decent flying airplane but not as a beginner, training type plane. I wish that people new to the hobby would look up a local club first and I realize that sometimes that is not possible but it would give a guy more sound advise than to run to a LHS and ask someone just trying to make a buck. My rant is now over and if anyone else would like to sound off, either for or against, I would definitely like to read it.

We can't dig holes or anything like that so anything we put out there will have to be anchored down by other means. We can however use tail hooks that do not go more than about 18" deep.
