[:D]V6goose- My name is Rich Koll, and I am the designer of the true scale kits for Legend Model Boats. I am posting the web site address for Legend Model Boats, so you can take a grander for the true scale model that I scratch built to prove out the kit designs before they went to manufacture. I am not trying to sell you anything, but this is the best way to show the scale models with the running photos. www.legendmodelboats.com [;)]

RE: What happened to all the Donzi builders??
[;)]DUMAS has stoped making all fiberglass hulls and cannot give any time line as to when they will be able to replace them with ABS hulls. It looks like you will have to call around to the dealers who carry DUMAS PRODUCTS and see if they have any left in stock. After that the only place I think you will find them will be on EBAY and hang on to your hat when you see the prices.

RE: Lighting
[;)]That light is listed in the MACK PRODUCTS web site,www.mackproductsrc.com, in thier lighting section as either #L20 or #L21 and they sell replacement bulbs for either light as #LR34. Yes the light s are rated at 3 volts each. If you take a sharp Xacto knive and pick around the lens it will lift off allowing you to replace the bulb inside. You are right all the lights are top quality.

RE: Dumas Dauntless-help
[;)]I think that many of you are getting misinformation about the use of reduction gearing on high speed motors for use in large model boats. As for the difference between the DUMAS DONZI Z-65 & DUMAS DAUNTLESS, besides the obvious of one being fiberglass and the other wood hulls, the Dauntless hull when completed can be quite a few pounds lighter the the Donzi. Also the Donzi is a 49" long hull while the Dauntless is 49 1/2". The big difference is that the Dauntles has 1/2" more beam, thus will have less draft than the Donzi. The hull bottoms are also different with the Donzi having a deeper for foot and sharper vee with less beam at the water line than the Dauntless. The Dauntless is a modified vee bottom with its beam carried almost to the chine, very much in the PT boat style. Remember that the Donzi was built for offshore, while the Dauntless was a river runner. As for the motors for these boats one has to ask himself do I want speed or runtime. Anyone who says you can have both is lieing to you. To increase run time and still get a good turn of speed reduction gears are used to allow the motor to come up to max rpm's under load with large props. For top performance or speed, large motors are running direct drive matching propellers so as the loaded motor can still run at close to maximum rps's. The amp draw will always be higher on the direct drive motors thus the need for higher amp rated speed controls. Also do not be fooled thinking you are saving money by "I can buy such and such motor or speed control for a lot less money "when it comes to these bigger models. Even in our club, members thought they were saving money, only to come back and buy the correct setup after their savings went up in smoke.

RE: PT boat thoughts
[;)]Just thought I would give some food for thought. Did you know that the LINDBERG PT-109 , 30 inch kit hull is really that of a 78 foot ELCO PT. The real give away is the bow of the LINDBERG PT has what is called a clipper stem post were as the 80foot ELCO had a raked but stright stem post. The cabin on the 78 foot ELCO was totaly different from the twin cabin setup on the the 80 foot ELCO's. Kind of makes you wonder who did the reserch on the kit before it went into production.

RE: PT boat thoughts
[;)]You hit the nail right on the head. You can use most of the deck hardware from the LINDBERG pt-109 on the DUMAS 33" wood PT-109, but why. If you are lucky enough to have the full LINDBERG PT-109 kit use it insted of the wood hull. I have just completed building the LINDBERG PT-109 with the MACK products power package kit#812CE, which is a twin engine high speed power set up fot the LINDBERG kit. It runs with two 7.2 volt ni-cad packs in series and will give a top speed of 25 mph, for real.

RE: Has Anyone Converted A Plastic Model To R/C?
[;)]Tommygun, the most famous and widely converted plactic models were by far the one's LINDBERG MODELS made and still availabe either on EBAY or dealer's (BLUE DEVIL DESTROYER). Almost anyone who has been in R/C for awhile must have had a LINDBERG (PT-109) in their fleet. The models were very well detailed and easily converted to R/C with manufactures such as MACK PRODUCTS making complete conversion packages. By the way one one the models LINDBERG made was the 50' CHRIS-CRAFT CONNIE which was a truley a very detailed kit which was originally made by the MARX company. It is trully a classic and a collector's item. By the way MACK still offers complete conversion packages for the LINDBERG MODELS with electronic speed controls. www.mackproductsrc.com

RE: Whats the thrill?
[;)]I have been a model boater for over 45 years and I have to say that see the changes in equipment and the reduction in the cost for fully proportional radio controled equipment , the first time modeler be he the pilot of his first airplane, car, boat, or submarine, it has never been easyer to enter the world of R/C modeler. I started with airplanes in the beginings of radio control, which after my first crash led me to scale model boating, then nitro boating, gas boating, and then fast electrics. All venues were and still are exciting and best of all was the chance to meet and make lasting friendships with fellow model boaters. As everyone before me in reply to your question stated, "TRY IT- YOU'll LIKE IT"

RE: Electric Motor Help
[;)]The motors you have maybe stock motors or not , you can not tell by the outside appearance of the can or end bell unless it has the turn's number on the end bell ,ie. trinity 10. Also the size of the can comes into play as to weather it is a 540, 550, 600, 750 or larger. Also you did not say what type of boat you are going to use this motor for, and size and weight play a very important part in the formulation as to the proper motor, and propeller setup. One thing everone forgets is that boats need much more torque than a car out of a motor to run right without pulling ungodly amounts of AMP's.
