RE: Easy Washout Solution
I keep it simple: balsa aileron stock just under 1/2 wingspan long, 1/4" thick. Pin thin edge under trailing edge at wing root, swing thick edge of aileron stock [1/4"] under trailing edge of wing at wing tip and pin. Complete wing construction, 1/4" washout for full len. of wing. Depending on desired amt. of washout simply use aileron stock of a different thickness. fredsedno

wheels
Happy New Year! My question concerns radial and/or axial runout on wheels: I have 3/12"wheels that runout very noticeably. Are they ok? These wheels ran out right from the box & were made by a very well known company. I can picture these wheels moving at 3o/40 mph, the revs. are high and vibration must be significant. Any input will be appreciated, fredsedno

RE: snow ski ideas for hobbico 60 trainer
Unless you are flying off packed snow, your'e probably better off building from scratch. I find any commercial skis are too small. This is particularly noticeable on trike trainers. Engine down thrust really seems to bury the prop. fredsedno

RE: Wild thing .40
Built wild thing40. Wing seems to be mid wing. Put wing on top of the fuse. Also added one more bay to the wing. Study the incedence wing/hor.stab. Almost looks like an after thought. fredsedno

RE: Degrees into inches
Gentlemen, One degree equals .018 [.01745 sine of 1degree] drop or increase per inch. Example:aileron2"wide moving up or down 10* would travel 11/32" Dihederal of 3*on a 60" wing would equal- .0174X60=1.047" or .523" per side. On the models we build just multiply the lengthx.020x# of degrees desired. Close enough. fredsedno

Lnewqban, The page you referenced does have a diagram which answers my question in simplified terms. I intend to use fixed slats, barndoor ailerons & slotted flaps- no flaperons. thanks, FREDSEDNO

RE: Main gear width
Good question, I was taught 25% of the wingspan, or 12" for a 48" wing. I prefer an inch or more on high wing airplanes. fredsedno

Broken Wings, Are you using a 61ts? Were you able to confine part of the muffler within the cheeks or did you use a manifold extension and keep the exhaust systemm out side the cheeks? fredsedno

Sig states the all up weight should run 7 to7-1/2 lbs. I suspect a lot depends on engine weight, landing gear and # of servos- battery pack etc. I can visualize maybe 8 lbs. Fredsedno

ASTRO HOG
Just purchased a ASTRO HOG kit from SIG. Plans don't show any rt. thrust or down thrust. I am curious as to how you successful builders and fliers have addressed this issue. I was advised "2degrees right and 2degrees down", if not specified. ?? Fredsedno

RE: Twist Drill Sharpening Tips
Sharpening twist drills is definately an"art". I had ladies sharpening drills less than .016 dia. under a microscope. For the casual drill user the drill dr. will suffice, barely. Forty years in drill&cutter mfg. fredsedno

RE: Twist Drill Sharpening Tips
Twist drills sharpened as shown will produce a "flat " clearance, making for a drill that grabs and drills aggressively. Suggest using a "spade"type drill on holes 1/4" and larger(preferably with a spur point). This type of drill will not pull itself through wood. fredsedno
