RE: os GT55 gasoline engine
They work great on round cowls and no cowl airframes. I had a MVVS 26 on a Edge 540 and Katana, and in both cases the front of the cowl had to be cut quite a bit to fit. It was pretty ugly. I would guess an inverted installation on any cowl with a 'prop hub ring' like a 540 or Katana would be a mess.

RE: Aviation Models 33% Yak Build Thread
Wow. Good to see this thing still going. I bought my 33% Yak back from a buddy a couple weeks ago. It's stock (no carbon) with a zdz 80rv/pitts muffler/Xoar 26x10. With A123's it weighed 22lbs on my digital scales. I hope to fly it next weekend. It's in great shape for a 4 year old ARF.
ORIGINAL: YogoBlue McChicken, Do you have proof that there is 2 separate DL mfg facilities? One in US and one in China? I believe they all come from the same place.
My personal experience with DL/DLE engines is the one's sold by TBM, Valley View, and DLUSA seem to be better quality than the ones sold on ebay, and Hobbycity. I have 3 or 4 from DLUSA and have had zero problems over a four year period. I have a 3 or 4 from ebay/Hobbycity and I have had to replace the bearings in 2 of them. One of them would not start because the pressed pin in ring grove was missing. To be fair, the guy on ebay sent me a new piston free of charge. I'm more concerned about parts than warranty work. I can work on them if I have the parts.

RE: ZDZ80 early version question
Texan, Good point about the parts for the bing carb. Bing has a USA service center, but it's for the ultralight carbs, and boat carbs. You might give them a call, and see if they can get parts for the zdz 80 carb. You will need the part number off of the carb. http://www.bingcarburetor.com/

RE: Zenoah 62 with Rcexl Ignition
I would use the one screw, double side tape on the bottom, and Velcro strap it in a X pattern. Don't use a 6v battery without a regulator or diode. You will toast the ignition eventually. I use a 2000mah 4.8 pack from cheapbatterypacks.com... My DL 100 gets about 8 flights before it reaches 4.8 volts under .5 amp loads.

RE: First 3D Gasser
ORIGINAL: victorzamora Hey guys, I've been kind of flip-flopping on this. I had basically decided on the WH 88'' Edge unless TBM was up for a combo deal on the Yak. Now, for the small price difference, I think that all of the CF in the Pilot-RC Yak might be worth it. Also, I'm more fond of its hardware AND it's got a higher level of prefabrication completed than the WH. However, as a friend brought to my attention today, the H9 Carden Yak isn't that much more than the Pilot-RC Yak after shipping (free shipping from Horizon). I'd love to own a Carden (yeah, I know...it's not a ''REAL'' Carden), but it's got no spinner and all of the stuff is Aluminum instead of CF. Also, the rated weight is much higher on the Carden. Does anyone have any experience with both the 89'' H9 Carden Yak and the Pilot RC Yak?
Victor, I have the 35% Pilot-RC Yak, and it's very very nice. I used all of the hardware, and the carbon is quality stuff. Assembly time is very minimum. The toughest thing to do is trim the cowl... LOL!!! I don't think you could go wrong with the WH edge, Pilot-RC Yak, or the any Extreme Flight 50cc. I have owned 2 WH edges and they 3D very well, and are built sturdy enough to take a few harrier landings.... I don't think my Pilot yak could take much abuse... it flys great, but she's built light.. and is somewhat fragile. I broke a former just be picking it up wrong when loading it in my trailer. Just my 2 cents. Dennis

RE: First 3D Gasser
ORIGINAL: victorzamora Hey, Dennis. Sorry about not particularly trusting HS5645's....but it's not just about torque numbers. I'm not fond of their speed either. At .18s, I'm simply not impressed. The Hs5625's have the speed of the 7955's....but less than half the torque. I know that all of this overkill doesn't seem worth it, but I'd much rather have overkill than marginal power. This is (as the title states) my first 3d gasser. It's also my first plane over 60'' Wingspan (unless you count my dad's 40-size 80-inch Cub). It's also the first plane that I'm using simply for all-out performance and not caring about price (to a point) or looks. When I began in RC, I decided to get the best I could afford....and then I slowly got to the point where I'd fly just enough or cheaper stuff. Maybe my second 50cc plane will have 5645's. Maybe I'll get a 100cc plane and use the 7955's from the 50cc on it and get 5645's to replace the 7955's I removed. I just don't feel like playing ''risky'' or ''almost'' with my first big giant.
I agree Victor. I love 7955's, and you have a good plan. Especially, if you plan on moving on to 100cc and 150cc. Another thing about 5645's, 5625's, even the hitec coreless digitals (5945, 5925), is the gears wear pretty quick. I only fly my extra a couple times a month, but I imagine you will be flying the 50cc more than that.

RE: DL 100 - New Twin on the Block!!
What's best way to tune these engines when you can't adjust the needles when the engine is running? I seem to have better results tuning my singles when I can adjust them while running. Adjusting an engine that is not running has been a task for me. I'm thinking about attaching some speedometer cable to my high end needle, and see if I can adjust it. has anyone tried this method?

RE: What would polite suggestion be?
Maybe a little off topic: I fly with a dude who literally flys one flight after another. He usually brings four planes (.40 to .60 size ARFs) to the field. He has a rotation, and a pit crew (his wife). While he is flying, she is refueling and recharging his planes... No kidding I have seen him do this for 3 hours without taking a break. I have seen him crash a four star, and follow that up with a spectacular bi-plane crash, and his wife brought him a third plane to fly while the other two were still smoldering in the high grass. He's a cool dude, and flies the pattern. He is a 2.4 guy, so no beef with the pin. Really, no one complains about him.

The impacts are not very voilent when you only have a foot to fall. I have augared a few in from about 10 feet... that's when it gets messy for the engines.

RE: DL-50 engine
ORIGINAL: OldRookie This stopper/gas line thing always gets confusing. Lets see here....DuBro gas stoppers are good, Sullivan stopers for gas aren't. Hayes neoprene gas line is good, DuBro gas line isn't. Tygon isn't as flexable as neoprene. Always use barbs and ties on all Tygon type of fuel lines. Does the above seem to be correct? RE: DL-50 engine
ORIGINAL: JoeAirPort No the stuff you posted a link to is clear. Not the same. The Hayes neoprene that I posted is the good stuff. I learned that from RCIGN. He's a wise old man.
Joe, Keep an eye on the neoprene. We had some issues last year using neoprene (I'm not sure it was Hayes brand). The neoprene was breaking down and spliting. My tank was a standard dubro, gas stopper, and brass tubing (no barbs). On my Yak, the neoprene split near the stopper. Also, my filter screen had black particles matted in it. I had to burn it out. I told a flying buddy using neoprene from the same batch to check his, and his inline filter (between the tank and carb) was full of the black particles. He had to replace the filter (couldn't get the stuff out). I'm pretty sure it wasn't Hayes... I'm thinking it was dubro neoprene I got at the LHS.

RE: WOW!! New DL 111cc and 55cc !
ORIGINAL: flatspinjim Seems like that's a common thing with the twins. My 100 ran richer on the right cylinder for a couple of gallons. I now have a bit over 15 gallons through it and it runs very even. It takes a while for the rings to seat. That could be why you're chasing the needles. I had to keep leaning mine as I went. Now I never have to touch them. Sometimes it just takes time.
Yep. I had to keep leaning my low-end, and riching my high-end as the rings were seatting. I would lean the low-end about 1/8 of a turn, and richen the high end about 1/16 of a turn. We are doing this with buddies DL100 now, and it's running great.. but still spitting black stuff. I have about 3 gallons thru my DL100. I have switched to a Vess 27B (Pilot-RC 35% Yak), and the engine loves the prop. I bought a couple of the new JFX 3D props at the Nall (they look similar to the Vess). I'll try them down the road. I'm going to get the DLE111 soon. (hopefully).

RE: DL 100 - New Twin on the Block!!
TOM/Jody I testing my buddies DL100, it's new (I think he got it from ebay [:@]). After about 3 tanks, I'm getting 6400 using a Vess 27A (1000' ASL). One the low end, I have it set at 1/2 turn out. Believe it or not, the engine runs smoothed at any idle position. It's harder to start than mine, but it runs good it this setting..... 1 3/8 out on the high, and 1/2 out on the low... Have you guys seen settings like this? I'm thinking there is a problem with the low end seat... correct??? Dennis

RE: DL-50 engine
Brain fart on the weekend. I had to replace the crank bearings on one of my DL50's. No problem, took about 20 minutes. I re-mounted the engine to my Edge. Hooked everything up (I thought), filled her up, and tried to start the engine. I flipped, flipped, flipped, flipped, flipped, cussed, cussed, flipped, flipped, started to yell, and cuss it... NOTHING! Not even a pop. I'm now confused... what's going on??? I decided to remove the engine, and make sure the carb, and reeds were ok.... Well, as I was removing the last mounting bolt I looked at the carb and DAMN!!! The fuel line was laying in the motor box (plugged with a fuel dot)... I had forgot to hook up the fuel line to the carb!!!! The funny thing, as I was cranking, I was looking at the fuel line (not the end) through the motor box to see if the fuel was drawing... Hooked up the line, about 6 flips a POP!, running after 2 more. Brain fart of the weekend. I'm getting old. Not to brag but I lost my car keys recently.
