RE: XBox New Tank Sim Game?
From what I've read RO is the best. As far as Iknow it is only available for the PC. Is that correct?

Installing Asiatam gearboxes in Stug III
Fellow tankers, I'm installing Asiatam gearboxes in my Stug III and have encountered some issues: a) The Asiatam-supplied socket head capscrews that holds on the drive sprocket are larger than the original HL items. Not sure if the thread is metric or inch (measures approx 0.152" OD), threaded section is larger than the through hole in the sprocket and the head is larger than the counterbore in the sprocket. It looks like the plastic sprocket may have a pressed in metal sleeve in the through hole. One approach might be to open up the through hole with a hand chuck and drill bit, and a reamer to open up the counterbore. Not sure how well this will work, but should I just be going for the metal sprocket and metal tracks? I'm wondering that maybe the Asiatam metal sprockets would already be set up for the larger screw threads/head. b) I stripped one of the plastic bosses where the small screws go through the bottom of the gearbox bracket and into the lower hull. I measured the screws and they look to be 4-20, 1/4" long. I'm thinking perhaps I can get some longer screws (3/8") to solve the problem c) The Asiatam gearbox only allows 2 screws through the bracket and into the lower hull, as opposed to the 3 screws with the original HL gearbox. Consequently the gearbox is not as firmly attached to the lower hull and tends to rock about an axis through those two screws. The end result is that the output shafts are not in a horizontal plane and have a slight up angle. End result is the ouput shaft is not concentric with the through hole in the side of the hull. I'm concerned about rubbing with the hull or the drive sprocket rubbing on the transmission cover. This make me wonder if I should be considering those output shaft bearing supports that Tank Modelbau sells. It would force the output shaft to be concentric with the hole in the hull and provide a third mounting support point with the other two screw attachment points. I would be thankful with any input or experience from others on the forum. Thanks

Still have the original plastic drive sprockets/idlers and plastic tracks, but considering Ostkette and metal sprockets/idlers for the Stug III.

There's a rumor out there that the IR system in work for the new Mato Sherman may be Tamiya compatible Mato website says "THE GUN BARREL CAN TELESCOPIC AND FLASH". Telescopic in this case translates to recoil.

RE: alternative to a Tamiya T-3 DMD?
I'm a novice on this topic, but am looking to upgrade my HL electronics as well. What I would love to see is a "consumer reports" checklist of options for what I'm hearing the three primary options are: a) RX18/DBC, b) Tamiya, c) El Mod. Again I'm pretty ignorant, but to start with a few characteristics I'm aware of or interested in: Number of modules required for complete system Sound Recoil Flash IR battlesytem Other features TBD I would like to see a rating system, maybe +++ Superior ++ Good + Average - Inferior Also any comments to further describe each characteristic above e.g. programmable sound I'd be willing to compile into a spreadsheet, but it might be too exscrusciating for you experts waiting for me to understand and capture it all.

Anyone seen the new schurzen for the Stug III from tank-modelbau.de? Made of polystyrene. I like this product, except it appears that the bracket supports the schurzen through a small rectangular hole in the plates. Is that really correct?

RE: 3:1 low ratio gearbox
Perry S, So I guess you haven't found a US distributer with the Asiatam GB's in stock. I am with you and I'd like to purchase at least 1 Asiatam unit for a trial on one of my tanks. Ive got a Pz III, Stug III, and a KV-1. From what I can tell Asiatam builds one unit that will work for both the PzIII and the Stug III. Is that your understanding? Frank

RE: Brummbar
Well, maybe not exactly. I was thinking of the other gun barrel variants that Tank-modelbau sells. They sell 7.5 cm KwK 40L43 for the ausf F, and they used to have some short barrel variant, but I guess you're right that the superstrucure of the HL ausf G would be all wrong for the early Stugs

Besposhadniy (Merciless) KV-1
Interesting story of real Soviet armor. This is a KV-1 Model 1941 (without bolt-on armor) 1:72 scale diecast model tank by Hobby Master 1:72 Ground Power Series HG3010. KV-1 Heavy Tank Diecast Model Russian Army 12th Tank Rgt, "Besposhadniy", Western Front, 1942. One of the best known KV-1 Model 1941 tanks in the Russian wartime press was Besposhadniy (Merciless), of the 12th Tank Regiment, Western Front 1942. The tank was donated to the regiment by contributions from Moscow artists who had won the Stalin prize. The tank had been decorated with a cartoon of Hitler being blasted by a tank. The printing below the cartoon are lists of the of the tank donors names. The column to the left is the painters and to the right are the poets. The printing towards the front of the turret is a poem that was written especially for the occasion of the Regiment receiving the tank. “Storming through the fire goes Our KV heavy tank From the heartland it rolls To smash the Nazi flank Your fearless crew Never rests As they fire in combat Under Stalin’s commands The tank Commander was the ace Lt. Pavel Khoroshilov who is credited with destroying 12 German tanks as signified by the 12 white stars on the turret. Also the markings indicate that this tank is also credited with the destruction of 4 SPGs, 7 armoured vehicles, 3 guns, 7 mortars, 4 heavy MGs, 10 trucks, 5 motorcycles, a staff bus and a supply bus.

SNOWTANK, I found out the same thing as you that Mato does not include the IR sensor. THis is true of all their IR tanks. Read the detailed description under the tank. I agree though that is is a bit deceiving to sell their tanks without the receiver and ask another $14-15 for one.

KV-1 literature
I've recently procured the Tankograd KV-1 early variant book and the Militaria KV-1 Vol. 1,2, and 3. I really like what I'm seeing in the Militaria series, but other than the photo captions that are translated into English, everything else is in Polish. It looks like there is a lot more info in the Militaria books. Anybody got a translated version? I'm just too lazy to try to translate it myself.
