RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
far from normal. this is a common problem with air operated retract systems. go with either servo operated tail wheel or full electrics and/or converted to electric gear. check out ''down and locked .com'' electric conversions of robart, sierra, etc. they won't collapse like air systems will. just my 2 cents worth!!!!!

RE: Club FOX!
some engs. that run an ''open'' frt. brg. and spit out the messy oil thing can be helped a lot by removing the crank shaft (complete tear down ness.) and the main bearings and then take an engraving gouge and make a very small grove from just behind the front brg. to the rear brg. in the bore of the crank case opposite the carb intake. be careful not to go TOO deep with the channel tho or you will have a very big air leak you just want a channel that will suck fuel/oil back into the eng., keep around .002'' to .004'' deep. this will help clean up the excess fuel/oil being forced out the front. because of machining various tolerances some engs. are worse then others. the air leak you create by this ''little channel can be adjusted out by enriching the hi and low mix screws. so at this point either take things into your own hands and make the modif. or put up with mess!!!!!!

air system and cyl. size could be the problem. not enough power to overcome rubber bands, go electric or servo and those doors will operate just fine.

the US 41cc as the manuel recommends is JUST barely able to handle the 51 in this size. if you add all the mods and reinforcements and upgrades and accessories then a larger eng. has to be applied. i'm using a Brillilli 60cc on mine. using gas/glow fuel mix. glow ign. less weight more power no extra batt.

not all rings are created equal!!!!!!!! some just buckle under heat and some are made of inferior material to start with!!!!!!! learned that the hard way when i was in the auto repair bez. it ALWAYS pays to buy a high quality ring (or parts) to correct a problem. 2 gals. of fuel should not have in it's self caused your problem. not knowing what conditions you fly in i can't say for sure exactly what problems you are encountering. has the eng. been overheated? is the ring STUCK in the ring land by varnish etc? are you running a premium fuel? has the eng. ingested sand or other trash? if you suspect the ring is just bad then remove the head and inspect the ring end. gap. if in doubt go with the bowman ring, you can't go wrong with his ring!!!! 1 more thing, did you buy this eng. new?????

replace with a perry carb. if the rules allow it run a pump carb and pressure pump, 1000 rpm gain. go to perry/conley web site and pick out a large trot carb for racing, if i doubt call dave and he'll give you the rite combo.
ORIGINAL: radfordc Early in this thread there was some discussion about the poor transition from idle to full power with stock ST carbs. I've been running my new G-90 and found that I just could not get the engine to rev up from idle without bogging down in the mid-range. My fix was to install an ASP 108 carb that I got from Hobby King for about $15. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__13026__A108A_carb_assy.html I put on the carb today and the engine runs so much better now. It will go from idle to full power almost instantly with no hesitation or bogging.
i have some OS 108 7D carbs that work great on the big tigers. they are no longer avia. and were expensive!!!!!! once in while 1 can be found in ebay and here in rcu.

RE: *** CLUB SUPER TIGRE ***
the eng. there is certainly NOT super charged in any sense!!!!! what they mite be referring to is that it has a pressurized fuel system and there fore has a tap into the crank case charging or pressurizing the regulator ensuring a pressurized fuel charge to the carb. the only eng. that i know of was truly a super charger was an OS max eng. (can't remember which model) it had a mini roots type blower. YS eng. had a power box box, thereby boosting performance. i have installed walbro wt-499 ''alky'' pumper type carbs. on my big tigers, but you still have to tap into the case to pulse charge the carb. pump.

RE: Club FOX!
i believe when it comes time to rebuild a glow eng. ball brgs. makes it a bunch easier than bushing engs. bushing eng. if ran with hi oil content fuels will last a long time but for me i just prefer brgs. the down side is the eng. MUST be ran dry (just as bushing engs.) of residual fuel and well oiled after each day of flying to prevent rust and corrosion from nitro fuels. i know that many fuel comps. say that NO after run oil is needed with their fuels, but i oil to be sure!!!!!!

RE: Club FOX!
guys using weed eater and other larger gas engines are converting over the a gasoline/glow fuel mix and having great success with it. the thread here in rcu is ''gas to glow how to'' they're keeping me busy making plug adapters for them!!!!! the engines MUST have needle bearing rod bearings, and they can get by with very little oil. weedy engines usually run 32:1 up to 50:1 ratio mix depending on manufacture and oil brand used.
ORIGINAL: earlwb The old loop scavenged Fox ,25 engines are great, They have a small baffle on the piston crown. Sometimes they take a while ot longer to break in, but they last almost forever barring a nasty mishap. They aren't as powerful as the bigger Schnuerle Ported engines though, but they can still be used for lots of purposes. Here is one of mine on a Spad Pizza Box flyer plane. You can get a Mac's muffler to fit OK on it too. I still have several of these engines from when I was using them before the Schnuerle engines became popular. fox use to sell a lapping and polishing compound to help re-fit or should i say help break in overly tite engines, seat rings, etc.. kind of like bonami polishing/cleaning powder. just don't remember their names and i don't know if they still sell them. you have to be very careful on how and hoe much you would use as i remember.

RE: GAS/GLOW HOW TO....
ORIGINAL: computermonkey Whiskey Bravo Not really sure where these adapters where made. The two adapters came in a clear baggy with no label.
things get a bit tricky when boring a pocket for the glow plug and the plug wrench. in the 10mm, you just can't go deep enough from the top to get the plug down to the level even with the bottom of the adapter without cutting THRU into the 10mm threads and cutting the adapter in half!!!!!!! the pocket from the top can only be cut deep enough and only down far enough to leave enough material for integrity of the adapter. so you have to cut a pocket from the bottom so the plug becomes un-shrouded. on the 14mm to 1/4'' adapters the top pocket can be machined deep enough but the pocket CAN NOT exceed 11mm or a cut thru will result!!!!!! so what i recommend is either grinding down a nut driver as noted, or using a fox 4 way wrench (thinnest i have found) and taking off material on the plug end, just enough to get down to the plug for tightening and removal. i cut mine down on my lathe. making these little parts takes time and care in order to make them right and ones that will seal and not leak!!!!!!! see post #455 & #463 and click on the you tube links, take note of the adapter in that engine, then P.M. me if interested.
ORIGINAL: computermonkey Whiskey Bravo, I have the same engine and the Mark 140. I was thinking of doing the same when I got the time. Also look here http://www.rcextremepower.net/ignitions.html . I purchased two but have yet to try them out. Adapters look good though. Keeps us up to date on how it goes. If I remember I think someone else on the forum was thinking of doing the same.
the problem with the china made (cheap) plug adapters is that they tried to make one fits all. by that i mean, they machine the seat area for both gasket type and tapered seat type applications!!!!![:(] they don't seat or seal good. they made a mess on my engines with black oily goo.[:@] if your engine calls for a tapered seat plug ok, but if your engine calls for a gasket type plug, not so ok!!!!!!! if u-all want ones that work P.M. me!!!!!![:)] went to the afore mentioned web site and the 10mm x 1/4''-32p adapters are out of stock!!!!!! hmmmmm wonder why. they are hard to make, take time and care to make them rite. because of the sizes of the thread diam. inside and out. by the time you machine the outer threads (10mm) it leaves very little wall thickness after you cut the 1/4'' inner threads for the glow plug. it's risky business making these. once again i say P.M. me.[;)]
