RE: Bud Nosen 1/4 Aeronca champ setup?
Hi, I got one and it's a floater! Mine is 18lbs and flies very well with an RCGF 26cc and an 18x6 prop. Ailerons are around 1" up and 3/8" down (differential) and mixed with the rudder at 25%, rudder deflection is at maximum available and elevators are around 1.5" up and down, taking off by bringing the throttle up slowly I usually get airborne before the stick is 3/4 up

RE: What airplane would you like to see kitted at .40 or .60 size?
Hi, if they could bring back the Top flite FW-190 D9 I'd be a happy guy! And of course all the old Royal kits.

RE: RCG 26cc
Hi, Stick2000, my needles were at 1 3/4 for the low and 2 1/4 for the high, it was mushing at high speed so my high still needs some leaning. I measured my sensor at 29 degrees before TDC.

Well mine had it's maiden flight, the high end was a bit too rich but it never burped or died, using an 18 x 6 MA classic, unfortunately in the excitement I didn't take any rpm reading but I will next time out. A few pictures...

RE: cmp p47 thunderbolt
Thanks Neo, by the way can I have the adress of your model shop ... maybe I'll sit quietly close to the back window... mind you the airfare to get there will be more than the FG20! Keep with it, this plane is lots of fun, once dialed in. Here are a few shots taken on one of those perfect days for pictures, the clouds were just right for that 'taken at 5000 feet" look. None of these were touched up except for making one black and white (they were all taken before the new paint job). Keep the reports coming in!

RE: cmp p47 thunderbolt
Hello Neogold, I have one of these, loved it so much that I did a complete makeover because I didn't care much for the camo scheme it had. I changed the canopy to one for the top flite .60 and got a good fit and more scale look, it also received a complete cockpit. My CG is more like 110mm or 105mm. Using a YS120 with MA classic 16X8 prop (9000 rpm) I get tons of pulling power (almost unlimited vertical) but I could do with a bit more speed.. Overall a great plane to kick around! Have fun with yours!

RE: RCG 26cc
Hello propshaft, my experience has been very similar to yours except the needles were not that far off, maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 a turn each. I also started a thread somewhere else: http://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/showthread.php?t=99258 Plenty of pics.. so far after 2 tanks of 14oz each (93 octane at 32:1) I'm getting these numbers: Master airscrew classic 16x8 8750 rpm APC 17x8 8250 rpm My next try will be with an 18x6, the engine has not flown yet I'm currently installing it in a 108" wingspan 7AC Champion. Thanks for starting this thread, I will be following it and contribute what I can after it has flown.

RE: wish list kit ?
1- All the old Royal kits. 2- Top Flite FW190 D9 3- I really wish Top flite would make a giant scale ME109 or FW190 KIT in the same series as the P-51 or P-47 GS. Wishful thinking..[8|]

RE: Great WWI read
Hi, as somebody who is french (Canadian) here is my 2 cents: Virage - Quite simply means a turn be it turning while climbing, diving or staying at the same altitude. Vrille - A spin, or commonly anything that turns on itself. Piqued (Actually spelled Piqué from the verb Piquer) - Means to dive or nose down. Reversement (Proper spelling is Renversement) - means reversal, as in reversing direction or attitude depending on context, normally the exact opposite of the original attitude or direction. These words also have other meanings in non aviation context. I hope this helped a bit.[8D]

RE: Learjet .40 Build
Hello guys! Haven't posted since a long long time, but mine has maidened (june 21st) and it flys good! I had to add 5 ounces of lead to the tail to balance and came out around 7 lbs 3 ounces. The first flight with the OS 46ax and a 10 X 7 prop was a bit hairy due to lack of speed (full thottle most of the time), on a 600ft paved runway I ended up using 500`... I switched to a 10 X 8

Hi, the P-39 is a Top flite red box kit from the early 80s except for the glass cowling, dont know where that came from, but the canopy-top deck-air scoop is the same. Here's a few pictures of one I had, hope this helps!

RE: Learjet .40 Build
Hello guys, sorry I haven't contributed in a long time, what time I have I spend building and usually have none left to take pics or post here [:o] . So far it's going well, the wings are complete except joining since I'm still debating putting in flaps, if so I will use the original set up of torque rods joined toghether to make them move and two servos in the wing to make the ailerons, one of my flying buddy came over and said this airplane was a real candidate for position lights and strobes for wingtips and fuse... damn him![:D] I think he's right.. but I would have to do that soon for wire routing, either I make them or I will get the Ram kit no.121 from tower. My fuse is coming along, for joining the front end I just used a clamp to squeeze the two sides without the firewall installed and wetted both sides from just aft of F2 foward, every 5 or 10 minutes I would apply more water with my finger and squezze the clamp a bit more, just cold water that is, after 45 minutes they were in perfect position and I expoxied the firewall in. Word of advise... before gluing the formers open up the holes for pushrods and controls, doing it after assembly is a bigger pain. For doing the sheeting I use med. CA on one edge of the sheet, then use carpenter glue on all the affected stringers, roll the sheeting down on the structure and use med. ca again to glue down the other edge, this way I have plenty of time to make sure everything is in place and still not have to clamp anything down. Since pictures were taken the bottom half of the bulkheads have been installed plus the servo trays and the side triplers, beware the angled servo plate once in the fuse cannot be taken out again, I know since I put it in for a dry fit and had a [:@] of a time adjusting it.... Sorry for the long winded post but then again I don't do it to often ...[:)]

RE: Learjet .40 Build
Hi guys, I started buiding this kit about 8 years ago and just started again on it this week! Had to stop for moving and work and bla bla bla ... Anyway I already had the wings completed (not joined) and all tail surfaces done. I count myself lucky to have bought that spinner back then and left it in the box. Mine has the mechanical retracts and will be powered by an MDS .48. I might change my mind and put a os .61FX and tune pipe but I'm kind of worried about total weight at this point. I'll stick around this thread and try to post some pics if you don't mind the company [:D]

Hi, I just use windshield washer fluid, the plane is squeaky clean afterwards. Mind you the stuff we have here is rated -40 degrees so it might contain more alcohol.

RE: Transmitter batteries
Just replaced my 600mah futaba with a 2500mah NiMh that I picked up on the bay for 12$ and you know what, it's perfect! I can go fly two days in a row without charging my TX!! I don't think I'll pay 3-4 times that amount anymore for original futaba packs... probably made with the same basic cells anyway... Time will tell.

RE: Echo GT 1000
Hi, I just picked up one of these engine (16cc GT1000) , the guy at the small engine shop didn't know how many cc's this one was and I really wanted something more like 24-26 cc range. It looks good without too much wear, so my question is this, I want to put it on a champion (cub type) that has 108" wingspan 15" chord (roughly 1600" sq.in. area) and the airframe weights aprox. 10-11 lbs (no engine, no radio) so maybe 14-15lbs finished? I don't intend on doing much more than mild flying with this thing, think it's worth converting? One thing I do like is that it would fit completely inside the cowl[:)] , and can you guys tell me where I could get a prop hub for it? This would be my first conversion, hopefully I will end up with something that matches the craftmanship you guys are showing, really beautiful stuff! Thanks.

Help! Looking for Uravitch Fokker DVII construction article
Hi all, I just aquired the Rich Uravitch fokker d-7 plan (the .40 size) but the construction article didn't come with it, just wondering if anybody out there would have it? I do have his scratchbuilding book that shows this perticular plane several times but it would be nice to have the original instructions. It's definitely on my build list! Thanks.

RE: Cambria Miri 120" ever seen one? pics
Thanks for the reply, geez it's even older than what I was figuring... only flew it thermal up to now, maybe one day on the slope. The only mod I made is adding spoilers on it, sure helps because it doesn't want to land that much!

Cambria Miri 120" ever seen one? pics
Built this one maybe 15 years ago, it's a UK kit made by Cambria, fiberglass fuse with an aluminium tail boom tube, wings and tail feathers are built up, flies real good and smooth. It's probably a late 70s kit. Anyway never seen another one, all searches came up with nothing. Just wondering if anybody out there beside me owns one. The fuse came molded in yellow but was painted by me, sailplanes should be white![:)]

RE: Your most memorable R/C moments
Lots of good ones, but there's 2 that come to mind: 1) One day dreamed up this sort of flying saucer shaped airplane with a .20 and drew it on a piece of paper, made it out of coroplast, eventually the big day comes and me and my buddy go to the field, he's thinking it wont fly. About 10 people there and when they see it everybody says 'does that thing actually fly?' , well all I can answer is 'don't know yet'! So after everybody lands and gives me the field to myself I start her up and tell my buddy 'OK throw it!' it didn't have a landing gear yet. After it flew for about 10 seconds I felt this rush that had never happened again, IT ACTUALLY FLEW! I even remember yelling ' TAKE THAT LOCKHEED!' , there's no feeling like creating something and finding out it works. 2) I was flying at a local glider club, and participated in a regional contest with my Gentle Lady in Sportsman class against much better machines and people that had been doing that for years, back then at 20 I was the kid of the club, anyway I actually came in 1st! Now the best part is that the next year at the same contest they bumped me up to Expert class against even better pilots and machine and I managed to finish 2nd! Afterwards I was told that the guy who came in 1st was ranked no.2 in Canada! All this with a puny Gentle Lady! After more than 20 years I still have it hanging over my workbench. There's also all those nice flights at the end of the day when the sun is setting and your just cruising along!

RE: Magnum 46 disassemble!
Hi, DONT USE THE MICROWAVE!! anitfreeze is toxic and when heated it WILL release toxic fumes, those fumes will deposit all over in your microwave therefore contaminating all the food that will be heated in there afterwards. Why not try to find an old cooking pot/pan and heat it outside with a small camp fire under it...
