Correcting Warpped Control Surfaces
I pulled out a partially built kit I started on awhile ago. Everything seems true except a few of the control surfaces have a slight warp in them. Any suggestions on how to correct this? Fun2Fly

Oil % for cars
My buddy just got a new car, and the LHS sold him 16% nitro with 14% oil. I am a flier I don't run anything lower than 18% oil in my engines. What is the recommended % for cars. He is getting ready to break in his engine and I don't want it to over heat. I also told him he should bump up to atleast 20% nitro. We need your input before we continue running this engine.

I am looking in to getting a Hot Spot as a firts jet. I have about 15 years flying experience with standard glow engines, from .25 to 1.20. What are some of your recomendations as far as this jet goes? I am also looking for some good web sites to do some research and RC Jets in general but so far I am not finding any that are usefull. I like lots of info before I decide to buy one, so any info would be great.

NIMH and A-4
Has anyone had any troubles using the C function on thier A-4 for high capacity NIMH batteries? I just got some new 2300 and 2200 mAh packs and the first go around was 194 mAh on one and 210 on another. Since I am on the subject of the A-4, I moved to Europe and I am using a 110v/50hz, could this cause an issue with the A-4?? Any info will help.

EDH13, Careful you are showing your age. It must have been a totally different world being here back then. I have been here a year and boy do I miss fighters. I worked with F-4 several years ago at Holloman, the German AF fly the crap out of them.

RE: Real F-15 crash
Actually Aero Mech those are flight helmets, if you look closer they have the O2 hoses on them. Attention to detail is very important. Plus the AF doesn't use crainel caps on the flight line, only the Navy and Marines use them. Plus if for some reason the AF was using them, you wouldn't see them in the grass, everything like that is accounted for in a toolbox or tool room. Trust me it sucks when you leave something lying around and it is not accounted for, it makes for a long day.

My wife come sout 85% of the time. It is mandatory for all maiden flights for her to be there. The one time she didn't make it, it was a bad day for the plane.

Alright here we go. I know there is a long 4 page forum in the AMA section but I need some good intel on this stuff. Since I am in one of those countries that switching crystals is "legal" can I put a 35 mhz crystal in my 72 mhz Tx and vice versa?? Are there any conflict problems doing this and can you get them retuned to work?? Any info will help.

RE: Dropping eggs from planes
We use to do the breakfast drop, first have your spouse or someone you can get to hold a 16 inch frying pan out in the field, then you fly over and drop the egg as close to that person as possible. either by rolling or dipping method. Then the person with the frying pan tries to catch the egg. (old clothes and eye protection required, and hard hat) Then do the same thing with a bag of flour. Lots of fun.

RE: Real flight R/C simulator
Nick, The Avistar is a good flying plane, I put an ARF version together a couple of years ago for a friend and it fly fine. I was able to train him fairly easy. But my personal opinion the SIG LT-40 (kit or ARF) is the best trainer out there. I have had trainees solo quicker on the LT-40 than any other trainer. It is so forgiving and stable, especially in turns. The only thing I would suggest if you get one is to replace the Elevator and Rudder pushrods that come in the kit. They have a tendency to expand and constrict drastically with the change in temperature. As for your question on the flight simulator. I have been using the PT40 to train people during the winter months. It seems to fly realistically. Just remember when you fly on the computer you don't get the peripheral and ground reference as you would at the field.

RE: Wanted to Buy - Litco Alpha 4
Alpha 4 rock, I have been using my buddies for the past 2 years, the same two years I have been trying to get one my self. It has saved two planes from potential battery failure by identifing low mah. Believe it or not I was luck and I got on the list last year from an e-mail I sent from a undisclosed location in the middle east. This proves it just takes time a determination.

RE: Ground loop
Even an easier fix, just hand launch it and land it as a dead stick. [:D] Just kidding, it just takes time and practice to learn how to take off tail draggers. I find holding a slight up elevator until your ground speed picks up, (usually 1/2 throttle) this way your tail section is so called flying and stable. It tooke me many day s at the field and many ground loops before I perfected it, just don't give up.

Wabbit, I had a Wankel on a Uproar, boy did it move, then I put it on a sig wonder wow. They are expensive and a 4 oz tank will give you about 3.5 minutes of flight at full throttle. But once you hear one and fly one they are addictive.

RE: How do you store your Planes
How ever you decide try and keep your nose pointing up. This way the corrosive byproduct of the fuel doesn't sit on your bearings. Instead it sits on your back plate.

For the sport APC I was looking at 7x8, 8x4, 8x6 or an 8x8, and in the pylon 8.5 x 7. Is there a differnece in the design between to the two props. Looking at pictures it looks like the pylon prop ends are narrow? Fun2Fly

RE: prop size
I run a 12 x 8 APC on a Sig Something Extra and it hauls butt, so I would go with the 13x6 wood prop at 1/4 throttle and she will creep. I have ran 14 -16 on the 91 surpass on a big trainer and it worked great. If you find a larger prop is to much of a load on the engine remember to use your left thumb, that will always let your plane fly slow.
