RE: p-51 on floats (HELP PLEASE)
I have the same engine, take the weight off of the prop washer, or buy a new prop washer! I lost about 6oz to 8 oz with going to a two blade and removing the heavy flywheel weight. Bill

help with decisions?
well I've decided o do a seaplane. I was thinking of a cub .46 for my float plane. I have done a couple of electric float planes before with good success, but not glow. I have a plane in my hanger I've been toying with the idea of making a float plane out of it too , but do not know if it will work too good due to it being a sport plane. i'll post some pics do you guys think it can be done? plane weighs 5lbs and is powered by an enya .40. i don't even know what kit it is or brand just that she is a sweet flyer! oh yeah it a trike too.

EVOLUTION .46 engine mounting?
I have a question, I'm not new to flying just glow engines. I have a vq p51 with a EVOLUTION .46 on it I mounted the engine to fit in the cowl at about a 45 degree angle. Is this right? the engine on first flight cut out due too the carb falling off, yeah I learned my lesson about tightening screws on a glow plane! After putting the plane back together I flew one flight ran great. then the thing started to die mid cycle again. does this engine have to be mounted some way in relation to the gas tank? I read the manual and it is pretty much useless for mounting instructions. Bill
ORIGINAL: Insanemoondoggie I have had nothing but trouble with Evo engines. I had 3 of them, and all 3 have have been nothing but problems. Nothing but headaches. I`ve had more dead sticks with Evo`s than all my other engines combined. 3 rd times a charm for me , no more Evo`s in my fleet.
so what are you running now?

RE: evo .46 engine mounting?
yeah I think it is mounted fine I have another plane that is mounted the same way but it has an enya .40 on it. Thanks for the input. It dies at full throttle only after it warms up for a while and on the ground it runs great but at long periods in the air it stalls.I have checked the clunk in the tank and the tank itself all hoses too. I tune it on the ground and then it's like it changes in the air. the motor also feels like it has a bit of play in the rod bushings too.

Sounds good! I built one a month or so ago and only had the maiden flight, wich was superb except the motor blowing up.I had my maiden and dead stick in one Flight! This thing does float really well and landed perfect with no power. the plane was rock solid as you stated. now I must wait for this fridgid weather to subside so I can take her up again. I can't wait for the 109 and the mig 3 to be back in stock. Bill

Hmmm, geee when I called CMP about some of the issues my CMP Focke Wulf had with the poor quality and bad measurements, I could hardly understand them and basically they told me I was out of luck. And from what other people have told me, I was lucky they even called me back. ok man give it a rest we get it you don't like cmp/nitroplanes!

Engine shoping
Just would like to get some advice on buying an engine. I had an evolution .45 trainer motor and after two and a half gallons it is toast. There is barley any compression left and the rod bushing is so worn it clanks in the stroke. I was thinking about another evo motor. the .46 or the .52 but I'm thinking of maybe another brand. I need an engine to last more than one season. Is it common for an evolution motor to wear that quick? and what 2 stroke sugegstions do you guys have for a 6.5lb p-51 Bill

RE: VQ warbirds question/faq
ok what I found with the covering was I had to shrink it with a higher heat and cool it quickly with water. I knew I had the right heat setting when I ironed it, it sagged then became tight before cooling. I left it out in the sun for a bit today and no more sagging. I really like how durable this covering is it feels thicker than monocote. Thanks for the tip tlh101 Bill

VQ warbirds question/faq
Just wondering if anyone has had the minor problems I have had with my plane or if I just got a bum kit. Also if you have had these problems how did you fix them? First, the cowl on mine was cracking very easily it was way thin. No problem I re- glassed the inside of the cowl and it is stout now, wish I had known before I flew it. Today I took the plane out to fly temp was 55-60 degrees and I noticed when it was in the shade the covering was tight but everytime I got it into the sun it would rinkle like a 100 year old lady. If i set it back it the shade it was fine again. It does not effect the flying of the plane at all. anyone know if I retighten the covering if it will stop? I do not want to see what will happen on an 80 -90 degree day Retracts are very sloppy forward and aft movement. Ayone know how to adjust these? Other than that It flys awsome! Looks great too, I get tons of compliments on this plane. I do not mind doing a little extra work to an arf to get it to be better. Just thought I would get a thread going for those of you who want to buy one. I highly recommend these planes and I am currently waiting for the me109 and the mig3 to get back in stock.

RE: nitro plane kits
ORIGINAL: LuftwaffeOberst Well, just to let everyone know, I trashed my CMP Focke Wulf Fw-190. It wasn't because I have alot of money to throw away, it was because I made a bad decision in purchasing it. I looked everywhere for the Aileron Control Arm Screws, the stock ones were too short. I drove and waisted about 10 gallons of gas looking for hardware for the plane and I found nothing. I decided to buy a better quality ARF Warbird in the future and felt that I shouldn't spend $1000 or more on a cheap ARF. Plus my directions were very vague. My wife was upset with me about it until I told her it's better to take a loss now, then to invest in expensive equipment in a plane that might not fly, and I can't get parts for. I saw this Cartoon and it reminded me of this CMP thread. I read the Chinese directions in vague English and my plane came out like this: [:D] Peter Dowling aka Luftwaffe Oberst AMA District II # 56404 Aero Modelers Club Pulaski, NY
When you say trashed it what do you mean? If you want to give up on it and give it to me I'll take it from you. No plane deserves to die unless it is from the sky to ground. Let me build it and see if it will fly or deserve a proper burial[:D] I only live a bit south from you and can be there to pick it up anytime[:D]

RE: nitro plane kits
I built a cap 232 for my buddy from nitroplanes, like the others said ditch the harware for du bro and be prepared for some bashing of the kit. I had to make new wing attachments, reinforce the fire wall and landing gear area. The plane flew fine until he put it into a tree. I would only recommend them if you have built a few planes before. For the price they are ok. I just finished building my vq models p51 and the quality on that plane was way better than a nitroplanes model. Well worth the extra 80$ I spent. Bill

RE: nitroplanes.com
Well they do fly, but to get my plane right I had to re hash it a bit. I threw out all there hardware and used du bro, had to make hard wood dowel mounts to hold front of wing on properly at the proper incedence. as long as you have built a few planes before then you'll be ok. my cap 232 came out just fine with a little work and fly's great. as for the covering I have no idea what it is.
