RE: Zenoah G62 electronic ignition conversion???!
a few years ago I converted mine to electronic ignition, I did so to reduce the length of the spark plug using a 14mm to 10mm adapter for a CM-6 spark plug. Works great and idles even better. I never hand start as I always have my miller persuader to start engines. Just recently pulled the out the G62 and put in a GT80 with an ignition and man it idles so great and much smoother than a single.

RE: Yellow P-47 build question
I recommend using automotive polyester resin, I think Hysol is epoxy unless they have some out of polyester that I don't know about. You will get a better bond using polyester resin on Yellow Aircraft polyester fuselage. Typically I use carbon fiber tow (string), I wet the tow with the resin and place it within the edge of formers where it meets the fuselage, this is a lot easier than using cut up glass cloths. I only do one side for things that wont need too much strength and I place the tow on both sides if I need full strength. Here is a link to how I do this (in my info I use strings from a cloth roving which I had at the moment), use the correct resin for whatever the fuselage is made out of. http://vicrc.com/tips/index.htm Have fun!

RE: pica or top flight p-51
If you have a few kits built from sticks I would recommend the Pica if not the TF will be easier to build, using much later kit technology. As already mentioned the Pica will look closer to scale. There are many retract manufacturers that are available for both kits. I would use a 3w55i , has plenty of power and less hacking of the cowl, OS 55 gasser might be nice as well.

Greg, now that you have replaced the tail servo, it might be better with a gyro. I flown heli for a while and we typically use the fastest and strongest servo for the tail.

RE: Sepulveda Basin
That is a good point. If the last fire would have finished most of the dry brushes we will not have any more fires this season, and no more complaints... I love flying at the basin, 10 minutes from my house and IMHO the best flying field in the country.

RE: Sepulveda Basin
We had turbines before we even had designated electric area. The cause of the fire at Condor field in Camarillo was from a lipo powered airplane. There will be more lipo fires as more people move to its power system. For the most part the foamies don't start fire, they don't fly fast enough, wait till we get 10s 5000 packs crashing at 150+mph, you will have more fires. With the budget cuts of the state and city, someone needs to fund to put the fires out or it will get shut down.

Just so you guys know, Condor Field in Camarillo is temporarily closed due a fire from an electric model. Don't know if its permanent, some members are saying it is. I love seeing jets, but I am sure it cost money to put out fires, IMHO AMA should pay for it.

RE: Don Lein/Holman 1/5 FW-190A8
ORIGINAL: invertmast So I ended up getting shipped out to wyoming for work saturday morning, so no work has been done to the 190.. matter of fact, I haven't even gotten the thing out of the trailer! But here's something for you guys to ponder over and give some input on. i've got a set of Ziroli P-61 plans and retracts. I'd like to build one of these, but with the 190, TA-152, Eurofighter, Twin Otter and a ESM Hurricane (not to mention other small models) I'm not going to have room for all these things.. SOooo Should i sell the P-61 stuff and do something else I have wanted to do for 3 years... which is 1/3 scale FW-190A w/ a composite fuselage? (138'' wingspan, 117'' long). Yea, i know what your thinking, how can I have room for this monster but not a P-61... well, pretty easy.. I can have it sit on its landing gear on the floor of my trailer and it will actually sit over the top of the eurofighter. LOL
I to have way too many warbirds, and probably want to build more in the future, so I have decided not to build anything over 90" wing span, this way I can have more of them. My 96" 1/4 scale LA-7 is pushing it and does take a lot of space, I will probably need a larger storage and those are not cheap in So Cal. You know what takes a lot of space? those freakin molds I have.... and they don't even fly... but they can build another that can, just in case [;)]

RE: ARF 1/5th SEA FURY WANTED??
If you don't have a lot of time go for the ESM, if you want glass fuse or built up the Bates 82" version would be fine with the DA50, G62 or DLE55, here is mine with a G62, its a great flying airplane, a bit windy but the plane handles it well. A 1/5 scale version will actually be close to 100" wing span. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNNXJxWXjHw Vic

RE: Starter for 50cc and larger gas motor
I use a Miller Product called Persuader that can turn large motors, I powered it with A123 cells and works great. I try never use my hands on a prop, I see many use their hands and it works but I wont take my chances.

Are you using the stock muffler on the US41? That would be the first thing to change out. Others have also changed out to a larger bore carb which gives it more power.

RE: I'm Lucky my control horn broke
I bet that just got bumped and started to crack and finally broke off, glad it broke before flight. You can use stock clear sheets for it and glue them up on the frame. I think you can order any of the parts for the P51B from Aeroloft.

RE: I'm Lucky my control horn broke
Hey Tom, Did you finish that Barton P51B? I would use a G10 or carbon horn, you can make them yourself or buy them pre-made, sometimes I pickup a Dubro glass filled servo horn set and modify them. Make a slot on the control surface same thickness as the horn and glue them on. Pretty much permanent and strong, I keep them short enough as I don't need that much movement and it keeps them from grabbing objects that can break them off. In Jeff's case he needs metal ones for safety measure that go with his 1/3 scale warbird [:D]

Martin, Thank you for posting the drawing that really helped me out. This is what it would look like in a 1/5 scale P51B. I have been waiting for sometime now on a 50cc+ larger 4 stroke single. It really looks promising and the smoothness of the motor is amazing!

This is what the Kolm 50cc may look like in the P51B profile. I guess the Kolm 100cc inline twin will fit similar and go 160mph but for a price of course.

RE: In line 60cc
Just for reference, this is how the Moki 360G will fit the Bates P51B, a 1/5 scale Mustang. Spinner is 5.5" with 89" wing span. As you can see the carburator is not at all an issue even on a narrow fuse warbird. There is only the front spark plug needed to clear the cowl, looks like it will need a 1" prop extention to have no cutout for the spark plug. Overall the fit is nice from the start.

RE: KOLM ENGINES EZ 50 V3 Fourstroke
Hi Martin, I was hoping for a 65cc drawing showing the mm measurements. I want to profile it on the plans and see the clearance on the cylinder head. The 50cc drawing fits great on 88" P51B but the 65cc power is better. Is the 190 you posted a Sist? I don't see a 50cc flying that bird well as they typically weigh in 27-30lbs but I could be wrong, the 65cc will be perfect. Here is what I am hoping to put the 65cc into, at the moment I have 3w50i that fit okay, however I am really digging the sound of a 4 stroke.
