RE: Military colors only at warbird meets?
This issue seems to rear it's head almost every year. As a Warbird event organizer you learn quickly that you can't keep everyone happy all the time. No matter which way you go, someone's going to be unhappy with your choice. If you lean towards being all-inclusive than you'll eventually be hosting everything from Das Sticks to skull & crossbones adorned sport jets. CD's have to draw the line somewhere. It's their responsibility to make the call and that decision should be obvious and respected. Some hosts make it easy and just have a "Warbirds and Classics" event. That pretty much let's anybody participate. On the other hand, when I go to a Warbird event, I'd rather not weave my way through Caps and Edges or fly formation with Dago Red even though it's a Mustang!

RE: Northern Alliance Military Fly In - 2012 (Owatonna MN)
Still basking in the afterglow of an awesome event[8D]. The hospitality and fellowship experienced at this event exemplifies the family attitude of the hosts, Tim and Karen. The hard work and organization skills of Cal, Phil, Steve, et all raises the bar for any other Warbird Fly-in I've ever taken part in. The "fish-boil" on Thursday evening was an unexpected surprise and the "Colorado Contingent" enjoyed every morsel! I could go on for pages about this impressive event and the folks who are responsible for making it all happen, but let me just offer a heartfelt "THANKYOU!!!!" You guys and gals are the best and we look forward to next years event with eager anticipation. By the way, Ken thinks he may have left his Megatron starter at the flight line. Anybody seen it?

RE: Quadra 75 in a Top Flite P-47
I epoxy 2"x5" carbon fiber cloth from the firewall to the fuse in three places. In time those "pins" can wobble out and crack the fuse sheeting. The CF pretty much makes the joint permanent. I used to do this with fiberglass but CF is significantly stronger.

RE: Quadra 75 in a Top Flite P-47
Build a Meister 118" Zero! A Q75 pulled mine around just fine! That is, until the vibration from that big single cylinder thumper caused the whole firewall to fall off in flight. I did have a 3w75 in a Top Flite GS P-51...loved it! That sucker was so fast I hardly had time to enjoy it as she flew by on a low pass! A Q75 is certainly overkill at your altitude but probably doable. Just be sure that your firewall and fuse is reinforced with carbon fiber!

RE: Warbirds Over Denver, June 8-10!
I just found out that Ken, from RC Hobbies here in Denver is donating the new Hanger 9 GS P47! It's one of the few from the first run and we'll have it here first! Lora has one of the old versions and it fly's great but I've heard this new version is even better. We've also received a shipment if items we're going to be using as trophy's this year from our sources. I'm not supposed to go into any further detail about this but I can say that these trophy's will be one of a kind so get those Warbirds in ship-shape and maybe you'll win something very cool! I'm also pleased to say that our Meister Zero has taken to the air again after a couple of years of repair and restoration. That DLE 111 pulls it around with authority and she looks great in the air once again. Here's a few shots of the re-maiden as well as a couple of shots of our Corsair and the Zero all ready for the event...I can't wait!!

Thanks Ed! As always, your T-shirt design drew rave responses from everyone and we pretty much sold out of all of them. You're such a talented artist and we're lucky to have you on board! Yeah, the cowl flap awards were as cool as I've ever seen...certainly not just another trophy sitting on the mantle gathering dust! We're glad you enjoyed the event and look forward to collaborating with you over the long term.

Something new this year was the lunchtime entertainment from "Reveille 3". Wonderful live period music and a lovely show that brought a lump to many a throat. Thanks again to all our wonderful sponsors, especially Ken from RC Hobbies. I also want to thank Shaz for sponsoring the Vets from Fitzsimmons. It's always great to see those Hero's enjoying the event and it's a total honor to have them with us. Thanks guys...I'd fly with you anytime!

One of the most impressive displays was the father/son team of Brent and Zack flying a big Zirolli P-47 and a TFGS P-40 in formation. Great job you guys! I also had the pleasure of flying in a gaggle of Spitfires. Ours is the PINK one.[:D]

RE: Warbirds Over Denver, June 8-10!
Thanks to all those who made the event such a huge success! We had 80 pilots and over 150 planes. The pipers, flag raising ceremony and full-scale flyby went off without a hitch. Wait-times to fly were only a few minutes at the height of the event so everyone flew their butts off! The weather was spectacular this year and there were planes in the air from early morning to early evening. Congratulations to all the award winners! Hope you enjoy the trophy's as much as we enjoyed giving them out! The outstanding quality of the aircraft made it especially difficult to pick the winners. We decided that the run-of-the-mill "planes on bases" weren't worthy of the level of artistry and piloting skills we've been seeing so we went all out this year to do something special with the awards. Here's some pics I captured over the weekend...enjoy!

Setting up tomorrow. Weather looks favorable for the event. I just wanted to give you guys a taste of some footage I shot while in Urbana, OH for the Doolittle Raider Reunion last April. Here's a few of the 'one of a kind' trophy's we're giving away next weekend. Yep, those are actual, full scale B-25 cowl flaps. There's 14 of them...I think one would look good hanging in a place of honor in your hobby room!!

Cal, I heard he was a little tail-heavy![:)] The Spits will look good together. Bruno Maidened his CompArf Saturday. The thing looks great and fly's well although the engine quit about 5 minutes into the flight resulting in some minor damage that should be repairable before the event. I got a couple more flights on the Zero today...just about dialed in. Hey Phil, Thanks man! And thanks again for all your efforts in getting her airworthy again. We really hope you can make it...all fingers crossed here!
