RE: Neu motor question
Does a motor like the 1917 or 1915 need to be supported at the front and rear, or is just the front OK? Have to think about the idea of being a guinea pig with a $250 motor on my first electric plane but it sounds like it is definitely worth some consideration.

Energy drinks do weird things to me, too. They are great though when it's been a long night of studying and an early morning standing at the bus stop for an 8:30 EE class. Coffee is one thing, but a good energy drink and I'm on my electrical game by the time I get to class. I like Rockstar, and NOS, but I do the sugar free/low carb.

Yeah I dont know what my problem is ha ha. We know scorpion works, and by Huisons data it works really well- and fits and saves weight! I just don't know a lot about these brands. I'm an OS/YS guy and just like quality.

For me, wide contrasting stripes on the bottom really helps. I also like bright wingtips but that's probably more of a contest thing...

RE: what simulator?
I think the new Realflight is pretty good. I just used one (Aerofly?) which was ok, though the planes all feel a little too floaty. I think FMS is a great idea to get started with RC flight, and then see what simulator works best for the flying style you're getting into. For example, I bought FS One as I heard good things about it. Unfortunately the model selection is not ideal for pattern flying (which I do) and hence practicing on that sim was not all that useful. I think of all I've seen, Realflight might be my favorite. Seems everyone has one they like the best. $200 is a small amount of money if you think about the fact that it will probably save at least one airplane. There is stuff I will only try on a Sim first before trying it in real life.

RE: Neu motor question
Seems like Neu makes a great product. I wish I wasn't having such a tough time finding the right Neu motor. The calculator didn't have the info for the 1917 motor (and neither does the website!). The 1917 is a direct fit into the Wind. It is an in-runner with a ton of torque so it can directly connected to the prop. Customer support said this is pretty standard, most people don't gear this engine. Unfortunately he didn't know much about application. All of the 19 series motors will "fit" but the 1917 will go as far as to use the rear motor support in the Wind as well. A geared in-runner (even more so with the F3A) will require real surgery to the plane which I don't really want to do, and I'm not prepared to spend over $500 on a motor and gear set (as much as I'd love to have one of those motors). I don't know if it makes sense to use the 1917 though (rated for up to 145volts!) - if I'm only running 10S, wouldn't the right motor be the 1912 (rated at 125 volts)? Do I gain or lose anything with a bigger motor (and thus greater internal resistance?) I'm not used to the particular specs that they provide so I don't know how to compare to what I've been looking at (Scorpion 4035-250). Thank you so much for your help!

RE: Sebart Wind 110
The Neu 1917 is a direct fit. Exact same (25mm, 3M or 4M) mounting holes as the Scorpion, same case diameter (1.96in), and is .2 inches longer, so should fit the rear support perfectly. http://www.neumotors.com/Site/1900_series.html

Ok, just what I need to hear! I like simple... Can anyone tell me if the Neu 1917 3Y or 2Y is a great engine to run on 10S? I was looking at Scorpion but would prefer something a little more 'high end'. The Neu is a direct fit.

RE: Neu motor question
Ok so I'm really considering a Neu motor. One question I have is whether that motor (rated at 2100/4100 watts) will draw too much current from a 20C, 5000mah battery, or can I just prop it to stay under 70A? Another question is if I need the 240kV or can/should I go with 300? I'm running 10S.

RE: Sebart Wind 110
I found another motor that fits. The diameter is considerably smaller (about 1/2") than the Scorpion 4035, and weighs considerably less (about 4oz). Neu motor question
I found this motor and need help understanding some stuff: Model RPM/Volt Weight (oz) Length (in) Rm (Ohms) Io@10v Max RPM Continuous Watts Surge Watts Max Voltage Apps Price 1515/2Y 1,100 12.00/12.7 2.7 0.019 1.1 60K 1,250 watts 2,500 watts 54 volts 120 F3A $249 Air-geared Is this an outrunner? Is it geared? What does the Y or D mean? Seems like really high kV and max RPM so I'm assuming it has to be geared, but maybe it's internally geared? [link=http://www.castlecreations.com/products/neumotors/nm1500.html]Neu 1500 motors[/link] I am under the impression that these motors are pretty good, but don't really know... I'm trying to compare it to a Scorpion [link=http://www.scorpionsystem.com/catalog/motors/s40/s-4035-250KV/]4035-250[/link].

RE: what simulator?
The sim without a radio isn't going to do too much for you. The basic idea is to learn 'thumb coordination' , though you will start to understand the 'reversing effect' where some controls seem backwards when the plane is flying toward you, rather than away from you. When you decide to get a radio for your plane, you more than likely will be able to buy a USB connector to run it through your controller.

I agree with both above statements: The T-34 is arguably the best flying warbird around. I imagine you can still learn a lot from your trainer.

RE: what simulator?
I have used FMS for free, and have used some of the more expensive simulators. FMS will teach you the basics of flight as good as the expensive ones. You can get an adapter to plug your radio into your computer for $5. on eBay.

RE: Post all your
By setting a low idle, does the prop spool up as the plane accelerates, or does it hold a constant RPM? If it stays constant, that's all I want. Not sure if you can do that with the CC ESCs? There are a lot of people saying that braking is necessary with this plane, even through cubans, etc. Of course, I have no idea if these people know what throttle management is!

RE: Post all your
The CC controllers have at least the ability for 50% or 100% braking, and either short or longer time to start braking. Not sure if there's much more control than that, but maybe it's enough? Everyone flying the Wind 110 reports a lot of speed in down lines, and it's really noticeable in videos. Good braking power seems pretty necessary with this plane. Edited for spelling.

RE: Great Planes Sequence F3A gas conversion
...from your other (identical) thread:
Original: Skyracer2006 I bought the Sequence, and he installed a brushless motor according to the manufacturer's recommendations. I'm a developer with good experience in models 40-60. Analyzing the structure of the sequence I see it is too fragile to withstand the vibrations of a glow engine, it is necessary to redesign the front of the fuselage, which would add more weight to the aircraft, and then the weight concerns / wing area. My purpose is to make the sequence work with a OS.46AX engine with pitts muffler, the Cowling is wide enough, so no problem to accommodate such an engine. I already have 50% the development of CAD plans, will soon be cutting prototype parts and I will be commenting on the development of the project. Once this is achieved, I will climb the engine plane for a .61 -. 90, two stroke.
A lot can be done to an electric power system to increase flight time.

RE: Great Planes Sequence F3A gas conversion
From the pictures in the manual, etc. the plane looks like it's built pretty darn light. Nice to see a GP model built like the competition.

RE: Great Planes Sequence F3A gas conversion
If you're going to add more weight, why not just go with a bigger battery pack? I would be inclined to look for a lighter motor and run a higher voltage battery (more cells), which would draw less amperage from the battery and extend flight times. I'm going to setup an electric pattern plane, and with a large capacity battery I should be able to get 12-15min flight times. For a "1.10 size" plane, that's a lot more than I've got with glow fuel.

Do Castle Creations ESCs have fully proportional braking? I was looking at the Phoenix HV85 and the new Phoenix ICE HV they are coming out with. What's funny is I don't even really know what fully proportional braking is[8|] I just know I need a lot of braking control with my new plane[:D]

RE: Need a Solidworks model of an Airfoil
Prof. says to just change AOA; I'm not happy with that. I found a NACA 64-621 data point collection, and this airfoil has ailerons. Not sure if there's an easy way to alter the position of the aileron, but prof doesn't seem to think so. Really hoping it's a possibility otherwise I'll probably lose a bunch of interest, as usual.

JP it's only November and I am going stir crazy! I can totally relate. I actually sold my plane and my radio to fund my new project so I'm just SOL at the moment.
