RE: 50CC REVOLVER!!
Looks kind of boring, typical great planes/hobbico stuff lots white Monokote. I think the Reactor 50cc they already have is much nicer and better performer, this one is a yawner to me. They should use Ultracoate like everyone else and get some better colors on the planes, take a look at Hangar 9 planes for example, or 3D hobby shop planes.

RE: O.S. announces the new GT22 Gasoline Engine !
Here we go again every time OS has a new gas engine they get bashed for price by someone that has never had one or even seen one. Your not considering the muffler included vs. DLE with a joke muffler that makes your ears bleed or the other quality features. I happen to have an OS55 gas and it runs perfect since day one. Its well worth the extra in my opinion. My guess is you dont have the money for an engine in this class, so you bash the price on everything. Probably bash Desert Aircraft as well. By the way I own 4 DLE's and they are good medium grade engines, not the best quality but good, but I dont post bashes on them for being lower quality than OS though. HEY on a more positive note, when can we expect the OS 44 gas engine?
ORIGINAL: MTK gade600, I'm wondering if the HS needle is vibrating open on you. Have you checked the position of the needle's slot after each adjustment and has the position stayed put?
I doubt it because I have had it out 3 times now and its consitent and not changing. I was probably a good bit on the rich side when I flew it the first 20 flights, then it broke in and got itself even richer. I needed a sizeable (over 1/4 turn) H needle adjustment to get it in line. I was only going 5-10 degree increments and it wasnt enough I needed over 90 degrees. Most of the problem was me, lack of experience and understanding just how much to actually turn the needle. All my glow planes and most of my gas I just go a hair at a time if any to keep my engines in tune. This caught me by surprise and required a very large adjustment.

RE: DLE 30 Breaking Up-Help
Well, problem solved. Turns out I needed to go even more lean on the HS needle. The engine ran fine for 20 flights, but then started slowly breaking up getting worse and worse. The simple solution was to turn the HS needle closed more than an additional 1/4 turn. It runs like a top again. I was always advised that once you had your gasser tuned, a 1/8 or 1/16 turn was all you would ever need (if even that). But for some reason, this motor must have broken in and needed a LARGE adjustment. I was going 5 degrees at a time and it wasnt getting better little did I know it would need more than 90 degrees. I guess the ring seated and the tuning changed once it fully broke in. Never seen such a large change in a gas engine before once it was set and running great. Anyway now it runs like a top again.

RE: Evolution 26GX
I have one of these engines and it runs great extremely reliable. I am using 6V NiMh battery with decent current draw from the stock ignition and an inverted pitts muffler. No cooling issues. If you have a tight cowl I would baffle the airflow over the cylinder. Use Stihl Ultra oil mixed at 32:1 ratio. The choke works great on this motor and out front you can reach it without a choke servo or manual rod. Other than this, listen to what PE says as he is the best on these motors.

RE: 35 or 55 DLE for 80 inch yak
I have a Hangar 9 Extra 260 78" with a DLE 30, even though the plane calls for a 50cc. I thought the 50 was overkill so I decided to make it lighter. I suspected it would work and it did. Weight is 13# and it flys good for pattern and light 3D. It will hover with the DLE30 at half throttle. I did have a few lead segments on the nose initially, but since removed them. I have the motor approx. 1/4" further forward to help with the weight and used the pull pull rudder servo. So yes, I would say a 30-35cc engine can fly a 78-80 inch plane less than 14# with no problem and even do some limited amount of 3D.

RE: 20CC: fuel flow, thrust?
The static thrust on the G20 is way less than the DLE20, but not sure what the absolute number. I own both of them and the DLE20 is much stronger and lower weight. Zenoah is probably better long term engine, though. As far as fuel, 8-10 ounce tank is adequate for either, any more is overkill for a 15 minute flight.

RE: What seperates the diffrent typs of 3D Birds
ORIGINAL: Jezmo The Slick is a good bird no doubt but for me I would have to consider the fact that the Funtana 125 has about 100 more squares of wing. For those considering bigger gas engines that could make a difference. The way I read it is 9.5 lbs and just over 1100 inches of wing vs 10 lbs and just over 1000 inches of wing. For 3D work I am going to take that into consideration although 10 lbs on 1000 squares certainly isn't a deal killer in my eyes. In my experience much over 10 lbs on 1000 squares starts to get real squirrely. Just my two cents.
I have the Funtana with a DLE 20 and it weighs exactly 10 pounds on the nose. It is VERY light and Floaty. Don't rely on the H9 published weight, I have not yet had one come in under the maximum of the range. If they say 8.5-9.5 mine ends up at 10 and I have over a dozen H9 and they are always over weight (built exactly to plans, no I'm not doing anything to add the extra) I am also building a 3DHS with a DLE30 right now. Not done yet but it will definately weight around 11 pounds I already have enough on it to weigh it and I threw the extra parts not yet on in the bay and it will finish right around 11. Others I have met told me 10.5 was realistic with the DLE 30. Yes, my scale is accurate its a postage scale I have calibrated it and validated against other scales.

Markham, Be careful with the 75, it weighs more than the 95AX check the specs on Tower site. I have a Sundowner 50, the lines are nice and straight flys super fast for me with huge precision. Makes me look like a better pilot than I am. Knife edge passes are perfect lines, low inverted passes, huge inside and outside loops, stall turns flys like its on rails I love it. Was my first H9 plane and it impressed me alot I now have 15 H9's. I am flying it with the OS 55AX with the stock muffler and its very fast. Excellent combination if you have a 55 laying around. Mine balances perfect with zero lead on with the 55 up front. I also have the Jackyl in the box yet, probably looking at doing a 60NX on that one with Evolution/Jett blue pipe when I get to it.

It is a different ignition than Rxcel and CH etc. It has a two magnet pickup system, so it is probably more accurate than using a single magnet. Its definately more tight of a setup than other ignition setups I have seen. Thanks for the post, but I doubt that is a contributor to this issue but I will keep it in mind and check it later if nobody else comes up with anythign. I was wondering if too much choke excess fuel or not enough choke etc. would be a factor.

Evolution/MVVS 80cc Starting Backwards!
OK, during initial break-in in my back yard, and now at the flying field for my Maiden flight on Hangar 9 SU26 MM SE, the Evolution engine started and ran backwards on me for about 2 seconds of Horror. A real surprise and shocker, but it did. I am hand flipping it and have not experienced this before but it is scary. After it did it I had a guy hold my plane but most times it started in the right direction, just that 1 in 10 times it seems to run backwards for 1-3 seconds then die. Is there anything I am doing that may contribute to this condition? I expect and hope to see a comment from PE on this one as he seems to the be resident expert on these engines. I also must comment, the engine is very strong. Not broken in yet but the power is unbelievable and the smoothness of the transition and the lack of vibration for such a big single is impressing me. Very high quality engine. I expect to get many great years of high performance from this unit.

RE: OS GT33 33cc gasser
ORIGINAL: Whistling Death That is some twisted logic. [:D] Your close and my close aren't close. The $50.00 discount gets the OS 33 within $50.00 the retail price of the DLE30 yes but when you apply the same discount to the DLE 30 they aren't ''close'' anymore. OS 33 $419.97 - $50.00 = $369.97 DLE30 $319.98 - $50.00 = $269.98 If the replacement parts for the 33 are priced anything like their 55 they will be astronomical. You can tell your wife you saved $100.00.
What is not discussed is the lack of a useable muffler with the DLE30. Add the cost of a good muffler (many wont use the loud tin foil one included) from Jtec is $79.95 to the DLE and there is almost no difference in price. I hear the included muffler with the OS is a very quiet muffler and useable. Also, you dont have to drill out all your good props so they will only work on a DLE30 and not other similar engines and dont need a drill jig....figure all in the OS is a way better deal in the long run in my opinion for a motor that has 10% more displacement. Not even a decision for me.

I will re-check the gap and put a new plug in just to see. Barracuda, what makes you say "sounds like ignition" above in your first post? Have you experienced this before. This is like a mid range "burble" but it is clearly not a burble this is literally breaking up like its filthy rich or missing on some strokes....an extreme burble if you will, and only makes 7,000 rpm when it used to be 8,000. It does not quit or dead stick though. As I said before, it seems to be getting worse with each flight.

RE: DLE 30 Breaking Up-Help
To those above that have expressed spark plug concerns, I have not changed the plug, but will make that attempt to do. I pulled it and looked at it, it was a little darker brown than I would like, but not overly rich. As I stated above, I had been leaning it on the H end significantly, and not getting any improvement....but I dont think I have yet been leaner than 1.5 turns on it. I was at 1 7/8 turns on the H when it was flying good in my first 10 flights and I was going 1/16 of a turn leaner at a time on Sunday but maybe I got down to 1.5 at the leanest on the H. But it was not getting any better with 4-5 small increments and the rpms were not improving so I assumed it was just going to risk tweaking the engine by going leaner. Maybe just maybe I am still too rich? Also, spark plug why does one say .035" above and another say .024"? What is the benefit of a tighter or wider air gap? I have set most of my engines at .022-.024 and have been fine.

DLE 30 Breaking Up-Help
Looking for some help on my DLE 30cc on Hangar 9 Extra 260. Flew approximately 20-30 flights so the motor should be broken in by now. Using Stihl 32:1 oil mix and a 4.8V NiMH pack. I had the engine tuned well after the first couple flights. Transition real sharp and no low end bog and running nice on high end, just a tad rich maybe 1/8 turn or so. Then, after maybe 10-15 sucessful flights with the motor running great, it started breaking up, or almost sounding like it was rich or missing or skipping. I first thought it may be a tad rich since it was now well broken in, so I leaned it little by little 1/16 turn at a time. But no matter how much I lean it, it does not improve the problem on High end mostly. When it flies, it has no power and sounds like its skipping or missing and the problem seems to be getting progressively worse. I am pretty sure its not in the carb. I have other gas engines and know how to tune them. Sounds like ignition doesnt work well, but not sure. My only choices are to change sensor, ignition, piston ring, reeds etc. one at a time until I find the problem, but perhaps someone has had same problem before and maybe can save me some time and money? Any help appreciated. Thanks.
