RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51
Where did you get 45 pounds? I have one completely tricked out and weighs in at 37 pounds. They putting on ten pounds of paint? Mine has a powered canopy, all gear doors, full cockpit, operating drop tanks, this is one of the build along planes here in the forum. The Tuskegee Airmen "Ina the MaCON Belle". It has an 5.8 cu. in. (98 cc) engine in the front, all lights function, even the rear radiator door moves due to engine throttle position. Any of the three engines should fly this plane well. I would go with the DA85 just because it is the newest of the group in design. A good G62 will fly this plane.

RE: KMP
One other problem I had with the B-25, but not the Skyraider or Cirrus R22 was the canopy plastic for th nose and cockpit area. It was very brittle and easily cracked when handled. I had to replace both the front gun canopy due to flaws in the paint and cracks from shipping and I cracked the cockpit canopy when trimming it. It just cracked all the way throught the frame to the window. I do use sharp canopy type sissors. KMP replaced both items. The replacements were not much better. The canopys on the Skyraider and Cirrus were excellent. Go figure

RE: KMP
I have had experience with four of the KMP aircraft, Skyraider, 98"B-25, Bonanza, and the Ciruss22. The B-25 was one from the first run and was wrought with huge problems and Andy did get around to fixing the airframe problems. The Skyraider flies like it is on rails. I have yet to fly the bonaza or the Cirrus. The R22 is waiting on a custom muffler. The plane is assembled and looks very good. Now the only problem I have had with all of the retract planes is the poor quality of the retracts. The retracts that came with the B-25 and the Skyraider looked excellent until you started to look at them closely . the alumuinum wheels axle holes were over sized and wobbled on the provided axles. The larger B-25s wheels were so bad that they would lock up when you tried to roll the plane. Then the retact mechinisms were so sloppy on the B-25 we just threw them away and replaced them with CJM units. I have had to remanufacture the retracts for the Skyraider due to poor workmanship and poor materials. I now think I have the Skyraider code one and now air-worthy. I would say to TBM to get a good hold on the retract issue ( from reading this post you all ready have) and keep the factories QC up and should have a good product. I'm amazed at the drop in price on these models. Just my two cents worth.

RE: FiberClassics P-51 now Comp-ARF P-51
I do not think the hot water will be hot enough to do the trick. I normally use my heat gun that I shrink covering with. I had a cowl from KMP on my Cirrus that was really bad. Big bow in top from shipping I'm sure. KMP said they would replace it, but wanted me to try and heat it first. I did and the dent poped out and looks great now. So warm up the tail and it just might go back on its own. Then again you may have to twist it a little while heating it up. Then hold in position untill it cools. Good luck with it. Also Comp-Arf is pretty good with warenty work. I had bought my kit form another person like you did and the wing tube in the kit was the wrong size and they sent me another at no cost to me.

Personally I would send the fuse back for replacement. You might get it back in alignment when you add the support wood.

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
Yes and No. There is not a prescribed kit from Top Flight for the larger model. There is one for the 60 size Mustang. Now don't get your pants all up in a bunch yet...hehehehhe Now go to Tower Hobbies and look up the GS TF Mustang kit. Scroll down to the bottom and there is a list of parts to convert the D to a B/C. Just jot down the numbers, call Tower and tell them you want to order these parts. This is how I converted mine. These photos were taken at the D.O.G.S show at the Air Force museum this year. Regards, Gary Webb PS here is the direct link to the kit info ,http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHU93&P=SM , just scroll down and you will see To make this kit into the P51-B version you would need to order the following from GREAT PLANES MANUFACTURING at 217-398-8970. One CANPY097 - canopy Two P51GBD01 - decal sheet One P51GBP03 - instrucions for P51GB One P51GBP04 - Parts List P51GB One P51GBP01R - plan sheet P51GB One P51GBF01 - Fuse T-deck formers B8E, B9B, B10B Parts needed to convert to P-51B cont. Two P51GW19 - ¼ x ¼ x 30" balsa stringers Two P51GF29 - 1/8 x 3 x 23-7/8" balsa sheet One P51GBF02 - 5/8 x 3 x 23-7/8" balsa

I have been flying my KMP Skyraider now for awhile and can say this plane really flies like a pattern plane. The only complaint was with the undercariage and Andy has taken care of that. If all of there models flies as good as this one, I personally can not wait to see the new and improved versions. Go KMP!!!!

RE: TF 1/5 Scale P-51 ARF Assembly (1ST MISHAP!!!)
I would say they have enough power for the primary flight controls, but I think you should use 1110-130 in.oz. servos for the flaps if you are using 45-50 degrees of flap movement. This will keep your current load down and keep from having the flaps blown back up in flight. Make sure you use pinned hinges on the rudder and elevator, not the supplied CA hinges. Gary

RE: KMP Skyraider build along
Steve, The GT is the older version of this engine. The newer one (GX) has a slanted spark plug vs the straight one on mine. The Evo pulls the plane very well. Any good 26 cc gas engine should do very well. KMP now has a new line of engines (RCGF) and has a neat looking rear induction 26cc gas with reed valve induction. I have installed them on the B-25 and we have run the crap out of them on the bench and they perform very well. Still in the building stage on the B-25, should be done in a week or two. Gary

RE: KMP Skyraider build along
I know it has been a long time since I last posted something here concerning the Skyraider. I flew it for the first time Sunday. This bird flies like it is on rails, no bad habits and when the flaps were deployed to 45 degrees, all the plane did was slow down! It did not need any mixing with elevator to stop pitch up or down with flaps. Landings are uneventful. Just drop the gear and flaps, hold a little throttle and it will do a perfect wheel landing. It is a floator even with flaps. I know all of you are going to say where is the video, but alas no vedio recorder was present and my faithful photographer was not present. Just a couple of my club members on Sunday morning. I wanted to fly it with no one around. Lets me concentrate on the model than answering questions. I did find a problem with the retracts. The antirotation screws that also hold the upper and lower struts together was not locktited from the factoy and one came out allowing the wheel to rotate 90 drgrees to the flight path with the resulting flip on its back on take off. After retrieveing the strut spring and making a new screw and locktiting it, the take offs are straight and require little rudder. It amazing what you can do when both wheels are facing the same direction. LOL In closing, I would reccomend this plane to anyone with low wing sport plane and tail dragger experience. Also this was the first plane I own to be flown with the new 2.4 radio and the link as any who have used this knows was excellent. It is hard to teacvh old dogs new tricks. I used the low rates for all my manuvers except takeoff and landings, I used the high rate on the elevator only. Did not want any supprises with runnuing out of elevator at slow speeds. Did not happen. This bird does beautiful military rolls. Good Day, Gary Webbg+

RE: Who's going to Toledo this week end?
Can do sir. There was also a huge, I mean a 50 ft tall or larger Saturn rocket that will fly soon. It was a scalemodel of the moon mission. The builder told me it costs $13,000.00 for fuel for one flight. The FAA has already given them a launch date and waiver from ground level to 17,000 ft with about a 10 hour launch window. By the way it was not a Russian Bear bomber, rather a B-36 after reviewing the photos. The last photo is of the Aeroworks new P-51 that I mentioned before. Notice sequencing inner gear doors and drop tanks or bombs. Also very nice sliding canopy. It is not air powered. I think it could be made to do so, Hope you injoy the photos. Greg Hahns Top Gun winning B-25 was also on display. No photo due to I have photos of it from last year. Gary

Also the photo of the Yellow Aircraft booth. That Spitfire of theirs flies like it's on rails and is easy to fly, that P-40 beckons to me......so many planes so little time Gary

RE: Who's going to Toledo this week end?
It's now 9:30 PM and just returned home. Attedance to me was down some for a Friday. This was great for me to take a bunch of great photos of some of the new aircraft on display and the new models on display for the static contest. There were a lot of great looking war birds present and they really looked well done. There was a huge Spooky gun ship , A.K.A. C-47, Mike Barbies new T-6 Texan II, This thing is huge! and has a real turbo prop system installed. I think Mike has out done himself on this one. Can't wait to see it fly at TG. Gramey Mears had a huge highly modified Comp-ARF Corsair that had to be seen to believe. There were many more WB on display, Spitfire, Huricane, a CoursairII jet and a great looking F-15. Not to mention a Bear bomber!!! You have got to drop everything and get up there!!! Kondor had a great display of all their new models, Aeroworks had their new 87" Mustang on display. Comes with retracts already installed, with drop tanks and bombs with release mech. Great looking Stang!!! Kondor's RCFG engines look great and their prices are out of this world! I have two of their 26cc engine here to install in a Kondor B-25 and can tell you they really run great. We have put over an hour on each engine and they are with in 100-200 RPMs of each other with the Kondor 15/8 three blade scale props. Talk to you soon. Gary

Thank you for the photos, My only concern is if the glue joint on th magnet fails, off goes the back cover. The well was supose to keep this from happening with the magnet glued into the top of the well sandwhiching the cover between the magnets. Just my thoughts. Probably won't happen if the epoxy does not fail.

I never did hear from you all how you attached the rear canopy over the horizontal stab. The floor in the plastic part does not have the molded in drop down to hold the magnet. I figured I would just use screws to hold it in place. Won't be removing it that often anyway. OH, by the way...THE NEW WING PANELS ARRIVED TODAY!!!!!!!! I will have the engines with in the next couple of days and will be able to get back to finishing this bird. Anyone have any problems with the supplied wheels that go with Kondor retracts? The ones I have seem to have a very loose fit on the axles. Gary
