RE: A123's
Gerhard I really would like to use only a 2s pack (6.6V - 2300mah) for my receiver. 1) could I set up the receiver for NIMH batteries? would that solve the switching back and forth? The A123's will stay around 6.6 which is where a 5 pack nimh usually is. 2) for testing, could I use the A123 as battery#1 and my LI-IONS as battery#2, that way if the A123 doesnt work, the receiver will go to #2 which we know works (can I have different input voltages in the 2 batteries sources and what about the setup, does it matter if I use LiIOns and setup for NIMH?) Thanks George

Ok, thanks. I'll wait for the 50 flights and your comments then. In the meantime, enjoy it, everybody should be jealous (in the good sense) Best regards George

Congratulations! Can you speculate on the differences of flying compared to the more common 39lbs plane with a 150cc engine? Thanks George

RE: 40% 260 on a Diet
To Bob, Albert, Tony, ty and all you guys helping us with those great building threads, Thanks and keep then coming, they really help us become better builders. Questions: a) Does the Dr. Pepper bottle develop leaks in the cap? Do you seal it with? Does it last as much as a regular tank? Does it become brittle with time and vibration? Any worries? b) I noticed the round hole in the front of the cowl just in front of the carburator is open. Does it create turbulence problems inside the cowl? Should it be open or closed? Does it matter? Happy Flying George

RE: Extra 300 Prototype #2
Hi, Thanks for the great thread. As per the Carden plans, the elevators are held in place by the elevator tube and a "L" bracket attached to the fuse. I saw some threads in RCUniverse suggesting that the L bracket may fail easily. A simple fix would be to add a 1/4" anti-rotation dowell in the elevator as an added "safety". Do you think its worth the trouble or am I overreacting? Thanks George

RE: QQ 102" Yak - Discussion and Build thread
I have been flying with the 27C and I like it better than the NX 28X10 I was using. DA 100, standard mufflers at sea level, 27.5 lbs Horizontal flight: I find that the plane speed is esier to maintain constant at slightly different throttle settings. (I am not fighting the speed stick constantly, the speed is steadier) Verticals: It pulls slow and steady, unlimited. Easier to maintain constant speed. I like it! Just my $.02 also I am not doing any 3D, just IMAC. May be for 3D I would like a "little less prop, a little faster response" a would probably try the B (or even the A) Happy flying George

RE: QQ 102" Yak - Discussion and Build thread
Rick, Search my posts in this same thread around December-January. I had exactly the same problem that you are experiencing. If you search the forum for 3W QQ106 issues, you'll find many more people with almost identical comments in all sorts of airframes. Yes, there are many of theses engines that are working great, however, there are too many engines with this - or very similar - problems. I finally changed to a DA100 (identical mounting holes, just needed to adjust for a 3/4" shorter engine - and a touch lighter). Same cowl, same location, same everything - runs perfect. Funny that there are many others like you and me, many many posts, and 3W continues to insist that "it's airflow problems" or "keep leaning the low end". I have competed in a few IMAC tournaments and the word with 3W is: "make sure you get an old ignition module, the new ones are !&%^!&$^$@" I know it does not help but you are not alone. RE: QQ 102" Yak - Discussion and Build thread
I HAD a Graphtec gear that I installed a couple of months ago. It just "cracked" on a recent landing, around the "middle" of the leg. Fortunately nothing else happened, just a broken prop and a bad landing gear. I think they are too stiff and fragile, not a good choice. I finally had to "bite the bullet" and install an aluminum gear. Yes, I know, it's an extra 1/2 a lb, but it works the way it should. It's strong enough and flexible enough to absorb properly the weight of the plane during an occasional harder than perfect landing attempt, an uneven grass field,.... I didn't notice any difference in thew way the plane flies. Happy flying George

RE: QQ 102" Yak - Discussion and Build thread
Bodywerks, Since you expect perfection and since you are a professional builder, you should of built it yourself !! You can expect to pay around $3,500.00 for professionally built planes (Carden or others) Yes, there are a few imperfections here and there but they are minor. After everything is said and done, the plane looks great and FLYES even better. What else do you want? Happy flying George

RE: Dave Patrick super cub
Hill, See my post #667 in this same thread. I am turning a Mejlick 18X8 around 7000. You can imagine, plenty of power. And it's a clipped wing. However, IT IS STILL VERY SLUGGISH. I can go faster, It does NOT like it. It wants to fly slow and steady, it is a joy. If you want to push the enveloppe, it becomes sluggish and a poor flier. If you want acrobatics, it's the wrong plane, if you want slow and elegant, nothing beats it. Happy flying and enjoy it for what it is. Best george

The servo programmer cost around $150, each matchbox around $70 You can re-use the programmer for ALL your servos, ALL your planes,...... You avoid matchboxes that could go wrong in flight! I think it's a no-brainer Happy flying George

RE: QQ 102" Yak - Discussion and Build thread
Tried everything, still the same. Do you guys think it's possible that my problems are related to tank location ? My pickup clunk is about 17" behind the carb and about 6" above. Is it possible that during take-off the fuel gets pushed back in the tank, during rolls the tanks is now 6" below the carb as opposed to 6" above and at low throttle the carb pump cannot overcome this and the engine is fuel starved ?

RE: QQ 102" Yak - Discussion and Build thread
DP, Maudib and Quique on line ! The RC gods are smiling I am still having engine problems. I tried the "dead air box", no improvement. I leaned the low end and richened the high end, the engine did not want to rev past 5700 on the ground, and had no oomph flying. I am inclined to think that the carburator starves for air when taking off and/or rolling. Since the intake of the air scoop is half way in the cowl and half way out, most likely it is in an area of low pressure that gets even worse when the plane is in certain attitude and the vacuum there is starving the engine. Do you think if I cut an 1" high, 3" wide opening in the front of the cowl, right in front of the carburator, I will create enough additional airflow over the intake to feed the carburator ? Will it affect the "baffle effect" and therefore the cooling of the engine ? Happy flying George
