RE: Engine Pics and Weights
Actually, I've never worried about power or power/weight since I'm a sport flyer. If it ain't enough power, I stuff in a bigger engine. [:D] George Edit: Forgot to mention...Invertedflyby that is a nice way to display your engines.

RE: AkroMaster CL-20
I am one of the guys who responded "over there". Some of us have chosen to extend the wingspan by not clipping the ends of the LE and TE pieces. If you do this you will need to make some modifications to the center section, four additional ribs, and new fixed flap pieces. The rest of mine is box stock. Here is a comparison. The lower one is standard powered by a slant plug Fox .15, the upper one has extended wings and is powered by a Thunder Tigre .10 CL. George

RE: Perfect Brand Fuel Tank Numbers and Dimensions
Additional thoughts on the Brodak-Perfect tanks: I THINK Brodak only produces the most popular sizes of Perfect wedge tanks. The original Perfect tanks had some wedge tank sizes that came with the pickup tube on the end of the wedge, or top or bottom center of the tank. They also made square and rectangular tanks for FF. I believe he retained the use of various sized tubing as appropriate for the intended engine. For example, 1/2A tanks would use small brass tubing so you could use small size fuel tubing to connect engine to tank. George

RE: Sliver swallow fuel
I have a different opinion. The pre-mix from tower is for BB ABC engines and you have an iron/steel plain bearing engine. You should be using the "1/2 A" mix from Davis. For this reason I would suggest adding some castor to the fuel. Tower sells Davis diesel fuel in gallons, which will go a loooong way in a 2.5cc diesel. I would suggest decanting your fuel into a quart metal can with one ounce of castor added to the can. Klotz BeNOL castor oil is available from Tower, if you are ordering from them. Other sources of fuel are Ed Carlson of Carlson Engine Imports (quarts and gallons), Eric Clutton (Dr. Diesel). Perhaps Davis still sells direct also. I have bought from Davis and Carlson, but I've read good reports on both Tower and Eric Clutton also. Another point...you need "diesel" fuel tubing also. Diesel fuel makes silicone tubing swell. Tygon and neoprene are good. Anyone who sells diesel fuel probably sells tubing also. And lets not forget the fuel dispenser. Pylon makes a bulb of neoprene for gasoline and diesel fuel. George

RE: Need some expert help cox style motor
Scottman, I posted this on your other thread, but here it is again: First let me preface this by saying I'm not into cars so this is purely speculation... From running an old Wen Mac boat long ago I found that there is a considerable difference between the needle setting under load and free running. If you set the needle to run free, it will immediately be too rich under load. If you adjust the needle for running under load, it immediately goes lean and dies with no load. My solution was to place the boat's stern in the water once it fired and adjust the needle so it would peak while unloading in the water. Bringing this situation to a car, you will probably need to adjust it to a much richer needle setting to keep it running under a no-load situation for break-in. Once break-in is complete, you may need to lean it a lot to get it to keep running under load. You will probably need several runs to find the peak setting. I'm sure the 2 1/2 turns may not apply until running under load. I know this may or may not help your situation, but perhaps is worth a try. George

RE: Sliver swallow fuel
ORIGINAL: matt123456 I have found an old and don't konw what fuel to use. It is 2.47CC. I read somewhere to use aether, kerosene and castor oil. I don't know if thats right or what percentage to use. Can anybody help me?
Matt, I would suggest you use commercial ready-mixed diesel fuel until you learn to operate your diesel engine. Otherwise, a good mix for your Silver Swallow is 30% ether, 25% castor oil, and the remainder kerosene. Add a couple of percent cetane booster like amyl nitrate if you can find it. If this is the Silver Swallow you have, mine is an easy starting sport engine. I like a 9x4 or 8x6 prop. George

RE: Fox 35 stunt eng setup issues
ORIGINAL: jayseas George, In your earlier post, you stated, I could not get consistant runs with the Fox NVA and replaced it with a Super Tigre NVA.
Must have been another George, I mentioned decreasing bypass size to increase velocity to cure or lessen the "Fox burp". All my Foxes have original needles. Most folks don't want to fiddle with Fox needles so they swap them out. If you are trying to get the best run out of your Fox, you might also check out the Hemi heads and Stuffer backplates. It all depends on how far you want to go with your Fox .35. I currently have only one .35 stunt...it has a hemi head, stuffer backplate and standard needle. Some of the guys who are offering advice have much, much more time on the Fox .35 than I so I would suggest taking their advice. I was just offering alternatives. Good luck with yours. George

RE: Fox 35 stunt eng setup issues
Another opinion: If Fox intended for you to switch needles, they would sell the .35 without a needle... I may well be the only person left on Earth that uses the stock Fox needle. There once was another...George Aldrich swore by the standard Fox needle valve and his "pinch corner" tank. Replacement needles are easier to operate but not absolutely necessary. George

RE: Fox 35 stunt eng setup issues
ORIGINAL: jayseas I can't get it to continue running wheni start trying to do stunt manuvers.Help Thanks Jim [&o]
Jim, if your Fox is already broken in and you are flying a profile, some folks have suffered what has come to be known as the "Fox burp". If this is the case, the most common "easy" cure is to pull the cylinder and wedge some wood in the bypass to decrease the bypass size. Some make a more permanent cure such as using JB Weld but with the wood, you can easily remove it if it doesn't fix your problem. George

I believe the power of the Testors 8000 was more up in the Black Widow range. Here's what they look like with the standalone tank. RE: How do ya size a 1/2 A and smaller plane?
Doc, In days of old when radios used rubber band escapements, the positive wing incidence provided a constant climb during the powered part of the flight. When the engine quit, the ship became a guided FF model...unless you had applied enough control to unwind the rubber band, in which case it became a pure FF model. [:)]. To counter act the positive wing incidence and the engine torque, down and right engine thrust adjustments were used. This would make it fly straight unless you applied control...which could be a problem if you forgot to wind the escapement rubber band. [:D] The McCoy is a nice little engine, at least mine was. Do you have spare glow heads? If not, you might want to machine an adapter head button to use regular short glow plugs (or perhaps a turbo-plug). In any case, it looks like a fun project. Good luck with it. As to the picture, I have no idea. When I clicked on the first one, it shrank. I make mine no larger than 800 pixels wide. George

RE: Converting early American .09's to radial mt for 1/2A models.
In the mid fifties, when McCoy had the beam-mounted .049 in both glow and diesel, they provided a sheet metal radial mount with those engines at some point...mine had them. Don't have them any more. They were lost long, long ago...in a Galaxy far, far away. [:)] George

RE: Maloney 125 Lurker
ORIGINAL: lildiesel ...I remember World Engines from my childhood. RE: McCoy
ORIGINAL: lildiesel Now I really want a Baby Mac.
In all fairness, my Baby Mac was bought from THE auction site and is missing the tank back. Since I had never seen one before, I am not sure if the prop screw and spinner are correct. The needle may be a replacement, and is missing the spring. Still...it is an interesting (to me) engine. Does anyone know if it was available without the tank? George Additional thought. When I purchased my beam mounted McCoy .049 glow and diesel back in the fifties, one or both came with a little sheet metal radial mount that would bolt to the beam mounts to make it a radial mounted engine. That may have prompted McCoy to make the one in question...perhaps because of the popularity of the Cub .049B at the time. Edit: Just remembered...many or most of the kits at that time were set-up for radial mounted engines. Perhaps THAT was what prompted McCoy to provide the option.

RE: Maloney 125 Lurker
Bob, If I remember correctly, Mr. Maloney's first name was John. He formed World Engines many years ago. It was originally in Warren, OH, then he moved to Cincinnati, OH (~1958). He decided to try his hand at sparkies and the Maloney 125 was the result. BTW, I think the 125 means 1.25 ci. That was ideal for the large size RC planes flown ar the time. George
