Actually, This One: Vizzini: I can't compete with you physically, and you're no match for my brains. Man in Black: You're that smart? Vizzini: Let me put it this way. Have you ever heard of Plato, Aristotle, Socrates? Man in Black: Yes. Vizzini: Morons.

RE: F3A Results - SPOILER
Man in Black: You've made your decision then? Vizzini: Not remotely. Because iocane comes from Australia, as everyone knows, and Australia is entirely peopled with criminals, and criminals are used to having people not trust them, as you are not trusted by me, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. Man in Black: Truly, you have a dizzying intellect. Vizzini: Wait till I get going! Now, where was I? Man in Black: Australia. Somehow, this came to mind...

RE: F3A Results - SPOILER
Yeah,, he put those on just before the Nats. His fine tuning of his planes is pretty cool. Hes really in tune with what the planes doing and what modification they need. On one of the planes he was working with earlier this year, he thought it needed a little more thrust angle on the C50 that was in it. He looked around on the ground and saw a little piece of matchbook paper, Shoved that in the rear rubber mount to add a teeny bit more right thrust. Took the plane off and pulled a couple of lines, Said "there, thats just about it." !!!

RE: F3A Results - SPOILER
Yep Doug, It was the Q80 It makes me happy to see that you dont need fancy motors, canalyzers, yada yada to win. Andrew did it with Incredible talent and a work ethic that is unrivaled. He flies constantly and makes sure EVERY flight counts. Somehow, he maintains a cheerful, positive outlook, never gets down on the effort required to perform at this level. His airframe is BIG, light (10.3) and Straight. He only has mix on the downline (throttle to elevator) NO roll or pitch mixand thats a fact. His plane is the perfect example of a tool that never fights the user and doesnt ask for special treatment. Best airplane out today, I really believe that. I realize he probably would have won handily with a Kaos, as good as he is, but the plane he has designed really brought another dose of magic. (Btw, the knife edge manuevers with his plane give up NOTHING to the bipes) Congratulations, my friend!! Andrew is the best of the best!!

RE: Radiance F3A - new pattern kit
Hi, really beautiful airplane! Could you post the general dimensions of the fuselage? I'm interested in knowing how tall it is at the canopy and the width as well. Its kind of hard to tell in the pics. Thank you!

Looks pretty cool! I'd love to see it in just white so I could focus on the design of the plane rather than the finish. Love to see more pictures!

RE: Lightning Build
Shoot! I forgot to answer the questions about ESC and balt,, et al .. In this case, this weekend,, I had no ESC yet so Andrew let me borrow an ICE 120. Giant ESC. I will replace it ASAP. The batteries were inexpensive Skyking 30C packs. I think I have 110.00 bucks in each 10S pack!! Darin tried them in his Spark. He said they felt about the same as his expensive cells. Note: My intention with this plane was to get back into competitive pattern flying with the most reasonable cost. I really wasnt ready to blow the bank until I made sure it was right. I LOVE to build. Jeff plane fit the bill perfectly. I used and inexpensive motor, radio, servos and battery. I am not disappointed in the result in any way. The results show me its completely possible to compete this way. That being said,, I'm a sucker for all the "Cool" stuff. Its a struggle every day not to buy 100.00 props, Secraft this-and-thats, 600.00 motors, yada, yada.. I will be buying that stuff eventually, I imagine!! Guy

RE: Lightning Build
Thanks All!!!!! I really had a great time building. I made so many dumb mistakes that forced me to get my stuff back together, building wise. The plane is all covered in 000 silkspan and dope. All paint. I used AutoAir waterbase apints for the Red and White. The gold and green on the canopy are Tamiya rattle cans. ChromaClear over everything. I had a very busy, involved scheme on the plane originally. Had a ton of tape lifting the paint issues so I sanded the paint down and did a quick two color scheme. Oh well. The wings are Dave Snow's Dynamic wings and the stabs are Dynamic as well. Man, they really are the stuff!! The A60 7S has been stellar. Really. I fly with Darin and Andrew every week. They both have very nice, very expensive motors. Although the A60 doesnt quite have the authority of their motors, it will still perform the FAI sequences just fine. THe same motor is in Andrews 2M O

RE: Lightning Build
Shows up pretty well. The fuselage size is a fair bit smaller than the Big O. It appears a little bit smaller to me. I'm sure it will go away once I fly it a bunch more and pick my spot in the sky more appropriately Excited to fly my first contest in 20 some odd years. The last one I flew was in Vegas and I was flying one of my new Ariel's I had just started kitting. This is going to be fun!

RE: Lightning Build
All pictures taken with my IPhone and my one good eye. Plane flys well. Moving the CG around right now. Does everything it should. My finish is ok,,, all paint.. I had started on a much more involved finish and ran into issues, I sanded it all back down and did this finish in a couple days with waterbase AutoAir and Chromaclear. Using the inexpensive A60 7S motor, DX18 radio , Spektrum servos throughout. Flying a contest this weekend with it. I have been flying the 2M Osiris for awhile now and I really feel comfortable with it. I will still fly this one, however, as I have been working on it since October and I'm pretty psyched!

RE: Dave Snow Wings/Stabs
Man,, I cant get over the difference in balsa quality these days. There are good pieces here and there from different vendors but,, 20 years ago when I was building two pattern planes per week and Dad was doing the same,, we'd get orders of wood where 200-300 sheets would be sub 20 gram per and white with straight A grain. Just a sight to behold. Oh well, pining will get me nowhere. Guy

RE: Dave Snow Wings/Stabs
I built the Dynamic (Krill) AJ version wings and stabs. Put them on my Lightning. To reiterate what others have said, the workmanship, design, etc,, is top drawer. I was not hip to the correct method of using Gorilla glue and used far too much. The wings that Darin Peirce has been building for himself and Andrew are all in the 8 oz to 8.5 range. Darin puts his sheeting down on the jig and lays the built rib/spar structure over it. He traces around EVERY dang rib and spar with a fine tip Sharpie and then moves the sheeting off, Then puts the tiniest of beads down where he marked . I would swear its not enough glue but,, when it dries each of the ribs has a beautiful meniscus of foamed Gorilla glue along all joints. Beautiful work on his wings. He is doing a half dozen sets of Evo wings and the Dynamic stabs. Great combination. Guy

RE: Hacker A60-7S V2 28 Pole Motor
Andrew Jesky has one in his 2M Osiris prototype. I have seen it fly and that motor is indeed, very strong. I have the same motor in the plane I am finishing right now! It really is a great price for a very good motor. Guy
