RE: pull start for airplanes?
not practal on planes, but i had a JR, heli once with a pull start just like a weedeater. it was a g-23 zenoah motor and the heli weighted 10-12 lbs. it was called a Z-230 gasser, not made anymore. they are still around and guys used to ask for parts on runryder site. the spring type was around for awhile until cdi ignitions took over....................RON

RE: Parkzone Visionaire
yes i agree it feels like a bigger plane. they are well worth the 300.00 price tag IMHO. i have had four flights so far and a harrier land on every one. nice 3-d stuff to like ten inside loops in a row, also flat spins from 300 ft and host of other things. very respondsive to controls even not in 3-d mode. get battries that can take an 8-c charge or so not like the one that comes with it and a li-po charger that can charge that rate of 10-15 amps. the battries don't last long, but we were flying in a 15 mph +wind to sooooooo. i would expect 5-6 minutes max from the 2200 mah 3-s. 30-c. what a fun plane, easy to set up. have fun..............

RE: Maiden my Escapade...
i just maidened my belair biplane two days ago. don't be afraid of it. make sure you have everything right. thats all you can do. always put alittle up elev in it but not to much. 2 to 3 degrees or 3/32" is plenty and hit the sky. hold the nose up ,make sure she ain't lean and broke in with a least a couple of full tanks through it rich. check your battery after first flight with an esc. don't try any stunts with it until you have the feel of the plane. two flights min. fly five minutes and land. see how much fuel is left then go for seven or 8 min, and land. there a nice plane,i have had two over the years. they fly fast with a good .46. mine flew 70-75 mph with a os .46 fx. there aerobatic too. best of luck with it. i know you'll have fun with it, just go easy for the first few flights and don't think about what happend in the past. we all go through this.............RON

RE: tower hobbies sailplane
there are little fins inside the motor that move air around. the spinner that comes with it is a folding prop, it blocks the air from going in front of the motor. take it off and put on a reg, apc 8x6 prop it works better. i also have a brushed helion motor which is a 550 but better than stock. the glider flies good now on 2-s 2100 25 c lipo. it can loop inside or outside and is 10 oz lighter than stock........RON

RE: tower hobbies sailplane
tower hobbies sailplane as said in the heading. stock 550 brushed motor they have plastic fan fins inside that melt at 250 degrees or so. flying on the correct voltage woud be a 7 cell nimh about 8.4 volts. i'm using a 3-s 2100 mah li-po. 11.1 volts..........too much. i would never buy a nimh or ni-cad for it. they weigh 12 oz. the 2 cell i run now weighs 4oz. it just doesn't have much climb power, but thats ok until i put a brushless setup in it later. then i can use my 3-s without any trouble and it will climb good...................RON

RE: tower hobbies sailplane
i did burn it up after 8 flights. heat was the enemy. to much heat from a 3-s causes the plastic little fan fins to melt........then it stops shortly after. bought a new orion 27 turn 550..running it on 2-s 7.4 lipo. runs good....climbs lazey but what the heck................

RE: tower hobbies sailplane
i had it running on a three cell 2200. i lost my styker in the back field where i fly. don't have the three cell anymore unless i find the plane. i limited the throttle adj to 80% on the 3-s but she did climb better. i didn't want to burn out the esc or motor. it can take about 12 volts and thats it. anyway i guess i should go brushless. i love my stryker, we clocked it at 81 mph last week. i just picked up the sailplane as something to mess with. cheap. i don't normally like anything slow at all. on a good brushless it would do fine with a three cell..............RON

RE: tower hobbies sailplane
my space is 1 1/2 " wide thats plenty for a 28 mm inrunner. the inrunners are usually high kv rated. i would need about 1500 kv. i don't know of any inrunners that run that slow. outrunner could be adapted though. another thought is to keep the bushed esc and go with a ferrite motor. there ionly 16.00 from tower. they have more power and rpm than a 550. turning 11,800 on a 2 cell li-po and an 8x4 prop...thanks....RON

i have a tower hobbies sailplane, stock motor and esc. 550 motor and brushed esc. i use a 7.4 2 cell lipo for power. it works ok and lightens the plane up some 12 oz. what brushless motor would work good with the 7.4 ? i will use a good 35-40 amp brushless esc too. would a 480 do it say 1200 kv ? i would like to retain the 8x4. folding prop also....thanks........RON

two cell li-po uses four prong plug
bought a evo 2 cell 2100 mah li-po. put on an ec3 plug. noticed the balance plug does not match my charger. my charger has a three prong plug two red wires and a black ground. plug in there. my battey however has a four hole plug with three red wires and a black groung. why have three red wires and a black ground on a two cell battery ? the third red wire to groung does nothing. it regesters o volts. just makes the plugs mix match. my charger is one from a stryker. charges two or three cells. there is an extra wire and prong............why..............thanks..........RON

RE: tower hobbies vista glider
rebuttle..........the 450 brushless didn't work out. can't get it. anyway i have the glider 550 brushed motor and a 20 amp brushed esc. want to use my li-po of 11.1 volt 3 cell. 2200 mah, to fly it. nimh are to heavy and drop voltage fast. would never buy a 8.4 volt 7 cell for 25.00 for this plane anyhow. can i drop the voltage on my 11.1 li-po and use it ? motor can take 10 volts or so but not 12.5 from a fully charged li-po. also speed control is designed for not over 8.4 volt nimh or nicad. can take 10 volts not 12.5. would buying a 7.4 lipo 2 cell work ? these peake at around 9 volts, not to much voltage but would lack power on just 9 volts. the rpm would not be very high. the glider must be able to climb good........any thoughts..........RON

tower hobbies vista glider
i have a tower hobbies vista glider. 550 brushed motor and esc come with it. don't have the money to go brushless right now. i have a 2200 mah li-po 3-s 11.1 volt from my stryker that i fly alot. i want to use this in my glider. the esc will only handle 8.4 volts. the motor will handle about 9.6 or 10 volts with no burnout problem. how can i use my li-po instead of the 8.4 volt nimh or ni-cad battery they recommend. is there a droping resistor i can use between battery and esc or something else............thanks alot for any help...........RON

RE: Parkzone Stryker F27Q setup
i think your going to like your stryker, once it's set up. do this and it will help throwing it. go to the finger holes underneath. they are half moon shaped and c/a a 1/2 wide by 1 1/4" long pieces of rough sandpaper in these slots. it will help you hold on to it better. also launch by putting your thumb and middle finger in the slots .put your index finger along the bottom and glue a small piece of balsa 1/4 x 1/4 " at the end of your index finger and use this bump of balsa to push the plane foward while letting go with your thumb and finger. works every time for me. throw it full throttle, i've never hit my fingers on the prop ever. launch at a slight up angle, you can do this yourself easy. they are fast. mine clocked 81 mph. try some flat spins later they are fun...........good luck.......RON
