Tom do you jig/brace the fuse as you do the cross brace wires so it doesnt pull it out of alignment? Doc

RE: 1/4 scale Morane Saulnier Type N French Scout
An 18 X 6 at anything over 7500 will provide lots of oomph Also in looking through the Data File on this it seems from the pix that the annular opening is about 4 inches or so and at 1/4 scale that would mean 1 inch, more than one cm. Its hard to tell but looking at the amount of cyl fins exposed in the pix Id have to est 4 inches. Doc

RE: NEW BUSA 1/3rd Scale Fokker Triplane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As an addendum I have no knowledge of how this all works with glow, Im talking gas, I usually do the gear and the fuse from the cockpit fwd with Poly U and use the Polycrylic from the cockpit back and on the wings, that prevents yellowing over most insignia and fuel proofs where most needed. I buy the Polycrylic in Qts and use my 5oz detail gun to apply and buy the Poly U in aerosol cans. Cleaning the gun with water based paints is easy, I keep a bucket of water in the shop while painting with water based stuff (Behr ultrta) I try to avoid solvent based paints in the gun as clean up is a bit messier and smells noxious to boot. Yo Don, if it works, use it and tell everybody.lol Doc

RE: NEW BUSA 1/3rd Scale Fokker Triplane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry Ron, spray can. If you dont want yellowing use Poly crylic but around areas where fuel is likely to find the surface the Poly Urethane is much better. Doc

RE: NEW BUSA 1/3rd Scale Fokker Triplane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Solartex is painted, so there is already a paint coat there for the latex to lay down on. Even the natural has a clear coat but I use the linen mostly and the anitque can be used if lighter trips your trigger. I dont obsess over CDL and if you seal with Min Wax Poly U from the bomb be advised it yellows significantly with age. Like most here I use my airplanes and the whole thing ages the way I "use" em.lol Doc

Art, its never any good to go to the "woulda, shoulda, coulda scenario, what is was, fix it and try to apply the lessons learned. Motor's not good? Cut power and try later. I've been there, done that, we all have. Thank goodness it was no worse than it was. Doc

That will be a lot easier when there are kits available and someone starts a build. Right now things are somewhat in limbo with the Alby. Its not like theres any kind of build happening here, actually Wild Bills prolly posted as much on the alby as DJ did on the DrI. DJ got it started then disappeared. Also I think if someone wanted to direct comments elsewhere than for a Dri it would be Daves place to do so, it is his thread. Doc

RE: SSW DIII 1/4 scale Dave Johnson plan, Doc
I was running a paralell thread for this build on RCSB and a guy has chimed in that is designing a buck to spin up some cowlings for the DIII. Prices are expected to be close to what BUSA gets for 1/4 scale ally cowls. Any one interested should send me a PM so I can provide more details as they become available. We have agreed on basic dimensions and material thickness and he is working on the buck now and has access to a company that spins various items comercially so these wont be from a beginner or made on amateur equipment. Sir Percy, that comment caused me to flash that picture of four or five guys launching a huge B52 sloper, it might have been a magazine cover (too many brain cells ago) but I dont recall it was a lot of years ago. But a vision of you and Paul, Berry, Joe etc.... running down the runway holding the DH 2 over your heads caused me to ROFLMAO. Thanks for the chuckle Doc

RE: WHAT'S HE BUILDING NOW?
Well if you start at 30% and it's too far back it could be a problem but if you start at 25% and it's too far foreward it wont be a big deal.

RE: DH 2
Greg, yes it was 1/4 scale and probably long enough ago that it was the early tool. I still like the look of binding the eye with copper wire and then soldering. It's not difficult just one of those things that if you decide to do it that way, has to be done. Like so many things we do for ourselves as much as for any other reason. Doc

RE: DH 2
I wrap and solder them these days as it just looks better to me. I have had nicopress pull loose so the ones I still have are soldered. It was thier cable, crimps and tool so I assume it was all compatible. Some guys loop toe wire through an extra time but I dont like the looks myself.

RE: WW1 planes with rudder mix
Mixing rud with ails doesnt mean that when steering with rudder on takeoff that the ailerons move. Its only when ails are used the rudder moves the programmed percentage. When using the rudder the ails dont know it. I have a tad programmed into my N28 but it's switchable so when rolling with ails the rudder mix can be eliminated but to be true the rud helps the roll. Most of you know how sluggish the N28 rolls. On my SE 5a with four ails the thing will roll like a sport plane if you really bang it over and the airplane doesnt need the mix to fly well, maybe the longer nose and shorter tail moments are the reason?
