RE: November RCRC race Cancelled
I agree with Trey, Randy Ritch (Ritches Brew) in Houston will go out of his way to help the Club 40 guys out! I just talked to Randy Tuesday he is bringing me some fuel to Bomber Field Saturday for the gathering of the B-17 and Scale RC event Sep. 14,15 & 16 Ritches Brew is what we use at almost all of the Club 40 in the Texas area. Gary PS I have Randy's phone # if you would want to send me an email gfisher@suddenlink.net

RE: TT 40 Carb Question
What Greg said is one of the best ways of remedying the problem! Polypropylene is a very durable gasket if made right! If you can’t replace them with TT washers some of your hardware stores carry small aluminum washers. The ones I found were for pop-rivets I have also taken a 1/16 brass / copper sheet and punched out small slugs and then drill the hole in it making it the washer you need! It’s allot of work but it works well if you take the time to make them right! [;)] fish

Club 40, 424, 426 & 4 Really Fast
In response to Ken Erickson’s comment over on the (Club 40 Mufflers thread) Ken I believe and I could be wrong in thinking this way but it seems to me that the Club 40 pylon racing is simple inexpensive and relatively easy to find a place to race them! In response to the hot sticks moving up to the 424, 426 Q planes is most of these guys already have these planes and are very well established pilots in pylon racing, IMAC, pattern and scale events! They just really enjoy racing Club 40 because of the competition and the cost of one of the planes & motors. In my opinion there would be allot more of the what I would call professional pylon racers involved in Club 40 if they tried it out! The 3 pole pylon racing has a firm tradition on pylon racing and I would not want to take away from that tradition but it takes allot of work to put a 3 pole event on and the workers to run it and then you have to have a big enough flying field to support the event. I have a 424 that I have not flown in two years! There is just nothing around the Texas area to support it. I know for a fact that Texas has some of the best pylon races that the country has to offer but between the NAT’s and Arizona that’s about all the Q stuff running! Bottom line is the Club 40 racing is growing and it’s fun and not expansive to get into and we are having bigger events than we have had in past years and now with the first nationals coming up in Waco on Oct 13 & 14. I know this is not what I would call a level playing field but I know from firsthand experience flying with the professionals has made me a better pilot and what I have learned from them would take a lifetime to learn on your own! I'm sure that Club 40 has been a big plus in pylon racing! Gary

RE: CLUB 40 MUFFLERS?
ORIGINAL: JohnMcGowan Hi Freddy, the measurements that were taken from Tim's, (aka Battman) new mufflers were used for him to machine the go-no go gauge. I also have a g/ng gauge from him and the go part of the gauge can be inserted into the muffler outlet by about a 1/4 inch, then it stops due to the ID of the outlet being tapered down toward the exit. The mufflers had not been altered in any way beforehand so the measurements that were provided earlier are indeed correct. Remember, it needs to be STOCK and no drilling. We've only had one guy locally who ''tried'' to pass thru inspection with a drilled out stinger a couple years ago but he was busted on the spot and was told that he could not run the muffler that day during a race. This would be the same P.O.S guy who has attempted to cheat at other flying events yet screams out that everybody that beats him fair and square in Club40 is a cheater. You all know who Im refering to. Will wonders never cease?
Man John you didn't have to bring me into this! I didn't think the drill bit was that big.........[X(]

RE: Club 40 Pylon Race at WAAM in Tuscaloosa Aug 4th, 2012
ORIGINAL: Tbatt Greg used his pit area to remove the engine head. His pit area was maybe ten feet from the impound table which was full with three airplanes on it. I'I don't think that Greg was doing anything wrong by removing the engine head in full view of everyone ten feet away from the inspection table. I do agree that all airplanes should have been picked up from the runway and taken to a impound area by the tech inspectors. Next year we can try to do better.
Tim it really don’t matter if it’s 10’ or 200’ Greg knows he should have sat his plane up there and besides there was room on the table because there was only one plane on the table when he sat it up there because I was bringing my plane up there at that time and my plane made three on the table so you probably should get your story strait before making a comment on the matter! Hey guys it’s like this I am not pissed at anyone over this I think it could have been handled a little better but to hold a first time event the biggest Club 40 race yet and I would have to say the best race to date that Club 40 has had! The guys from Alabama all the clubs involved with it did a great job! This little infraction is very, very, very small to what we all can do in the future to make Club 40 grow and promote this great sport! I know for a fact that the guys from Texas are already making planes for the trip next year ! [;)] Gary

RE: Hico, TX Club 40, August 25, 2012
The Hico Field of Dreams race was a tad windy from what we have been used to at Hico! The wind was wanting to role your plane over in the turns but the carnage was minable! Ken Hopson did a nice job working his way through the B main into the A main! The A main was a good start with Jason Oliver jumping out to a half strait on me for the first 4 laps until Jason lost the back half of his muffler! At that point Richard Mole and I ran lap after lap trying to get a lead on the other right down to the end of the race and Richard edged me out by a nose at the finish! It was a d@mn good race!

RE: Club 40 Pylon Race at WAAM in Tuscaloosa Aug 4th, 2012
Okay Batman I cheated also I don’t believe I had any cuts in my heats either! And I wanted to have a diving start for my fast time run also but I remember them saying you could not dive start! I had a high wind and a driving rain at the time I made my fast time run it just happen to be a good lap! And as for the impound table after the A main race was over I’m an old racer from the dirt tracks back in the Midwest but compared to all you veteran pylon racers I’m a rookie but I do know impound means bring it like it is from the race! Anyone in pylon racing knows if there is an impound after the race what that means! And Greg we do check props in Texas at every pylon race we walk around checking them just to make sure they have not been modified. At the last Hico race Saturday 25th there was a prop that was just screaming around the pylons and fast as h$ll and after a look see it was found to be a 10 X 4 cut way down so it was a high RPM and fast (illegal) he was made to change it! He just didn’t know! The pilots may not see us check props but trust me at the Texas races they are checked! The Tuscaloosa guys had their set up for inspection for the pre race checks and I thought they did one hell of a job on that part! But the ball was dropped and thin fumbled at the impound… If you are going to impound planes after a race then the officials or chosen individuals needs to pick them up and take them to the impound area for inspection before anyone has time to change something or add something we all took our planes back to our pit area and then on to the impound area and that was not the way to do it! But I know I took my plane to the table just the way it come off the field it was not missing anything! So in all fairness that is why I didn’t say anything at the inspection table because everyone would have time to change something if they could have! I myself do not try hiding what I am running because this Club 40 racing is all about helping the young guys and older guys get going in this entry level pylon racing! I figure if I can’t fly smooth enough to beat the next guy then I don’t deserve to win! Gary Fisher

RE: Club 40 Pylon Race at WAAM in Tuscaloosa Aug 4th, 2012
ORIGINAL: Tbatt Ok, now that the dust has settled, was Tuscaloosa  the largest Club 40 race so far? I know that two years ago at the November RCRC race in Huntsville we had 29 entries and the TTown race had 32 so  I think we may have set a new record.
Tim, I think it was the biggest to date, back in 2008 Jim Duda put on the Texas Shootout Championship race that we had at the Austin field and we had 29 pilots at that event! When you were coming up this way to the race you stopped at Ms. Jaqueline's Voodoo Shop and Bait Store and picked up that little black leather pouch of magic potions and once you got here you sprinkled a healthy dose of that concogtion all over my airplanes so I would have bad luck this past weekend.
