The little U box is for holding a hopper tank or UAT with velcro etc

RE: Ultra Lightning at last!
OK SO I asume you sanded the entire model, then primed and added your various color coats? Was it originally an "all white" model or had color in the mold?

If using POWERMAX definetly turn the can upside down to get gas only and no liquid Propane is dispensed using the can upright always If all else fails get a WREN SS !!!!!

#1 ANY Boomerang they are awsome for short field work #2 C-arf Flash but definetly use trailing link LG and see the flash posts for correct CG, the factory CG will have you landing like a bullet #3 BVM bobcat, super for short fields #4 C-arf 3D EUROSPORT... you could land this on a postage stamp!!!

RE: Ultra Lightning at last!
I am building an ULTRA at the moment and I have the following questions... 1. If I install the flap servos per the manual ( written for the classic lightning) The output arms hit the underside of the top of the wings HOWEVER If I mount them so the output arms point towards the wing bottom they fit better. IS this the correct way for the ULTRA? 2. The CG method in the manual says it is 45-50 mm in front of the center of the spar tube with the wings off, with the fuse balanced on the spar.. IS this OK for the Ultra version? THANKS

RE: CARF Flash, best sports jet ever?
I agree the FLASH is awsome with any motor Definetly use trailing link struts though as the original straight struts + pins were prone to breaking esp on grass ALSO one weakness is the flat bottom main tank that tends to get air into your UAT earlier than most would like Other than that, it is a really fun plane.... for a LARGER fun plane there IS the lightning as well...

Yes pricey but ... zero vibration... SO going back on topic for this blog, the 100 gets my vote, great engine!! If you ARE worried about vibration with any gas engine get a HYDE mount.. they DO work!!!

RE: Boomerang Nano!!!
If you want something really neat, try a JetTronics electronic air valve, you can program these to provide better control over up and down retraction speeds...

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
If you put a small channel in the top of the wing ( like the Flash) then a turbine like the 160 can go right on the rails... the plane flys great however..as it is NOTE: I just noticed a sort of warning on another brand of Hawk warning against turning too tight or with some flap down on final landing leg as that version will snap roll badly and may be unrecoverable!

RE: Comp ARF BAE Hawk build thread
The Wren 160 has a large diameter SO I didn't want it to hit the wing, so I mounted it that way...it works fine mounted that way

TurboProp powered OMP RAVEN
I have successfully integrated a WREN-44 TurboProp onto an OMP RAVEN. The result is a stunning looking and flying airplane, with GOBS of power and virtually no noise except for the prop noise. See You Tube video here>>>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HBUTb4oyNI The turbine was mounted directly to the front mount provided using the centerlines provided on the front surface. The only modifications I had to do to the airframe is to cut someholes in the cowl to accomodate the exhausts!!!

I made the canopies by forming a balsa plug and then heating sheet clear plastic and plunging the heated and quite pliable plastic over the plugs, as soon as it cools ( fast) you cut off the excess and presto, you are done

RE: Boomerang Nano!!!
I use electronic air valves ( JetTronic ) these can go anywhere and they take up way less space than the traditional servo+mechanical air valve. The JetTronics ones have the additional advantage of throttling the air to allow slower movement of the retracts ( avoids slamming esp going down!) I put my pump way up front to avoid adding any weight up front to balance plus I like to be able to see the fuel tubing to ensure there are no bubbles getting into it!
