RE: Virus warning
You are right, that might be a little severe at this point. Last week, I filed an "incorrect page rating report"with AVG. They got back to me promptly with a report stating that the RCU site was indeed infected. At the same time,I filed a "trouble ticket" with RCU,reporting the problem. I have not heard a thing from RCU. This is very discouraging because I actually pay a yearly upgrade fee to advertise on RCU. I am afraid to place ads on RCU until this issue is resolved and RCU does not seem concerned.I guess it's going to be ebay and " that other site" for a while. At this point, the only way I can get on to RCU is thru my email. John R.

I wouldn't be too quick to blame AVG for false positives. Their avgthreatlabs website has identified: exploit invisible Iframe injection (type 1707) as the active threat on RCU. I'm not going to turn off my link scanner or switch security programs until this issue is resolved. John R.

RE: Pitcairn PCA-2 Autogiro by Whirlybird Aviation
Aw, come on guys, Let's go 1/4 scale! bigger is better! I'm getting ready to test fly my 1/6 scale PCA-2. I didn't build it - bought it at an estate sale. The rotor head was missing and I got the required parts from Joe Cole. He offers great service and advice. John R. www.rcaircraftworks.com

RE: All of these ARFs being massed produced...
Tedrew, I must be an exception to the rule. I'm a builder, who loves to build.I charge $10/hr. on a T&M basis. I do only scale models, because that's what interests me.I'm retired, so I don't depend on building for a living. If you think you would like to try building, give it a shot, you might be able to at least help pay for your hobby. RE: Pending FAA restrictions on RC
Joystick,-you couldn't picked a better example of government overreaction and abject stupidity, than the 30 mile radius model flight restriction connected with VIP movement. Nothing like broadcasting the VIP's itinerary, to the world! We haven't heard a peep out of AMA, about this kind of nonsense. All they do, is forward the NOTAMS.Has anyone at AMA inquired into the logic that drove this crazy restriction? John R.

RE: Pending FAA restrictions on RC
Saramos, you have boiled the issue down for us fairly well. I'm encouraged by many of the posts to this thread. Many are realizing that more of our personal freedoms are at stake with this issue and are willing to take positive action, to preserve those freedoms. Those of us, who are AMA members, should hold AMA leadership's feet to the fire, as far as representing our interests, in what could easily turn into a government regulatory fiasco. There are a few posters who prefer to stick their heads in the sand & hope the problem will go away. After dealing with FAA regulatory issues for 34 years, I can assure all that this approach doesn't work. I will keep harping on this issue, - respond to the NPRM and expect AMA to provide guidance and support to ALL aspects of the aviation hobby communities interests. Just because we all don't fly turbines or IMAC, doesn't mean that we shouldn't support those who do, for recreational purposes. Commercial operations are a different story. I agree that they should be regulated, especially if their operations involve flying out of human eyesight and control.

RE: Pending FAA restrictions on RC
We can't just sit back, relax & expect AMA to save our bacon. When the NPRM is released for comment, everyone connected with aircraft related RC hobbies, should respond. Please realize that the FAA can apply pressure on the landlords of leased flying fields, to make the facility users comply with whatever restrictive proposals become law.So, don't think you are safe because there are no FAA inspectors doing a surveilance at RC flying fields. Many fields are leased from local government agencies or private parties. You can bet that they will be informed of any new federal restrictions.

RE: Pending FAA restrictions on RC
Kidepoxy, I'm not sure what OMB-a119 states and can't agree with you that it takes a lot of money to write yourself out of gov. regs. What it does take, is an organized responce from the "interested parties" who will be affected by the proposed regs. The AMA gov. relations page states that the NPRM is expected to be released in June, the proposed rule will then be open for public comment. this is my understanding of how the process works and how I have seen it work in the past. It is very important that "interested parties" respond to the objectionable provisions of the NPRM, (in an intelligent manner)and AMA will have to spearhead this effort. AMA could probably help with the"intelligent manner"part of it , for those who are fed up with big government.

RE: Pending FAA restrictions on RC
I spent 34 years in full scale aviation, dealing with the FAA. Several years back, some bright boys at the FAA decided it was time to re-write the maintenance tech certification regs. A rulemaking committee was created and various changes to the certification requirements were conjured up. A Notice of Proposed Rule Making was issued and interested parties were invited to comment on the proposed regulation changes. The aviation maintenance industry was organized and recognized the threat to the well-being of the industry, if the proposed changes were implemented. A letter writing campaign was initiated and the responce was overwhelming, against the NPRM. The proposals were quietly dropped, - sometimes, you can fight city hall & win. AMA leadership should get familiar with the rulemaking process and start organizing the membership & the hobby industry to respond to any restrictive government measures, generated by some paranoid beltway beaurocrats. The effort may not be successful, but it is certainly worth trying and a "you can't fight big government" mindset, surely won't help. All "interested parties" will need to respond.

RE: What plane is a good match for OS 160 twin?
OS 160= Sig 1/4 scale cub, Topflight 1/5 scale Stinson Reliant, BUSA 1/4 scale Cub, BUSA 1/4 scale Sopwith Pup, The list goes on,the O.S. 160 twin is a smooth running, user friendly, engine, producing good power for 1/5 scale and 1/4 scale classic scale aircraft .For the RCU watchdogs who might accuse me of being a O.S. shill, the Magnum 160 twin is comparable. As always, when buying on RCU or Fleabay, N.I.B. is the preferred condition.
