Do you recommend a servo-activated choke ?

RE: Evolution 26GX - choke operation
Thanks for responding. I'm not sure what you mean by leaving the choke in place. Do you mean leaving the choke closed ? ............George

Evolution 26GX - throttle spring
The Evo 26GX has a rather strong spring on the throttle lever. Does this not put a rather strong load on the throttle servo ? What function does the spring perform on the Evo ? Thanks.......George Bonn

RE: separate batteries for servos and receiver
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm a newbie so bear with me. My concern relates to depletion of the single battery that powers the servos and the receiver. I use a Futuba 12FG Fasst transmitter and receiver. Futuba support replied to my query about separate batteries by advising me to use a power distribution system such as those offered by Smart Fly. Do any of your units protect against this in some manner ? Thanks.........George

Is there a Smartfly unit that will facilitate separate batteries for the servos and the receiver ?

RE: Evolution 26GX - choke operation
JT The Evo 26GX has a rather strong spring on the throttle lever. This will put a rather strong and continuous load on the throttle servo. The instructions with my FPE 1.3 recommend removal of the throttle lever spring on that engine. I've received advice from another RCU member that the spring should not be removed but only unhooked as removal will cause the throttle plate to stick. Do you have any advice re unhooking or removing the spring ? or leaving it as is notwithstanding the servo load ? Thanks again.........George

RE: Evolution 26GX - choke operation
ORIGINAL: jtsails George, I just get rid of the return spring and install a detent ball and shaft so that it operates like all of my other gas carbs. It's a simple mod, unscrew the choke plate, pull out the shaft, drop in the ball and spring, install new shaft, and replace the choke plate. Here are the Walbro part numbers you need. 1ea 40-922-1 Choke Arm Shaft ($3.82) 1ea 89-13-8 Steel Detent Ball .125DIA. ($0.41) 1ea 98-162-7 Detent Friction Spring ($0.49) You should be able to order them from just about any small engine or saw shop. JT
Thanks JT. I've ordered the parts directly from Walbro via its online store at www.walbro.com Being a gas engine newbie, I can't picture in my mind how the new parts will work in operating the choke with the Evo feature describe. When I have the parts, I'll post a further message for help. George

RE: Evolution 26GX - choke operation
I have used my finger as a choke on other gas engines. However, the Evo 26GX has a choke plate that, when open, projects out of the air inlet so a finger can't block the inlet. Moreover, the Evo choke plate has a springed activating lever that locks closed for the starting propeller spin and then automatically opens when the transmitter throttle stick is advanced. So, can anyone advise me whether the choke should be operated by a servo; and, if yes, can you suggest a good linkage setup ? Thanks.......George Bonn
