RE: Four-Star 60 Kit Build
The RCV ran great, it was the maiden flight. I used a gallon of 10% Cool Power to break it in and on the maiden flights. It is a little heavier than the OS & Saito 4-strokes. That worked out good for me because the 4* was tail heavy. Also, I am using a McDaniel on-board glow starter. It has a good idle and ran smooth on all three flights.(no dead sticks) It has a 13x6 APC prop now, but I plan to change it to a 14x6 or a 14x7. The weighted prop spinner helps and it sounds just like a normal 4-stroke.

This is my 4* 60 with a RCV 91CD 4-stroke rotary valve glow engine. It is a great flying plane and it shows up late in the evening.

I checked the speed with a radar gun. With the DA60 and a Xoar 23x10 prop, the radar gun showed 93-95mph on level down the runway flights.

After some minor repairs and installing a new DA60, the Ultimate flew five times this past Sunday without any problems. I am very happy with the DA60, the Ultimate likes it too. No "dead-sticks"!

I replaced the Evolution 58gx2 with a DA60 on my AW Ultimate biplane. I have very happy with the results. It has plenty of power and has a great mounting system. The carb adjustment needles are accessed from the top of the cowling and are very easy to adjust. It has five flights without any problems. I am using Pennzoil air cooled two cycle oil for break-in. RE: Introducing the new 50cc Ultimate 20-300
The Ultimate is ready to be flown with the new DA60. The engine cranked right up and it ran for about 5 minutes without any problems. It looks like Sunday is going to be a real nice day. Everything lined up with the cowling, I used all of the plywood spacers except for one thin spacer. Also, I purchased a new TruTurn black spinner. I could not reuse the old backplate because the bolt pattern was not the same as the DA60. I am starting with a Xoar 22x10. I ordered a 23x10 and I have a 24x10.

WE fly at the old Stone Mountain airport. We have 350 feet of the old runway that we resurfaced a few years ago. Our website is: smrcf.com You are welcome to come fly any time. If the weather is good, there are always people flying on weekends. I am there almost every Saturday & Sunday. I should have the Ultimate ready by next weekend. I have to install the throttle and choke linkages. Good luck tomorrow, the wind should be a lot calmer. George Royal Secretary/Treasurer Stone Mountain Radio Control Flyers

RE: Introducing the new 50cc Ultimate 20-300
Because of a large hole needed for the Evolution 58 engine, I had to do some work on the firewall. I glued a piece of 3/16 & 1/8 inch plywood to make the firewall. I used 30 min epoxy and 1/8"x1" dowels to secure the firewall to the motor box. I used all but one thin spacer that came with the engine.

RE: Introducing the new 50cc Ultimate 20-300
Thanks Mike, The Evolution 58 had to have a choke servo, so I don't have to install one. It also had to have a large hole in the firewall because of the angle of the carb. There is one small hole on the side of the cowling for the old carb adjustment. It was very easy to make adjustments. I almost purchased a MVVS 58 Limited Edition, but the dollar has dropped a lot since I looked at it last year and they came out with the DA60.

The Ultimate repair is almost complete. The bright yellow ultracote was a perfect match. The DA60 will be here tomorrow. I am glad I saved the engine template(DA50) that came with the plane. Does anyone have any hints or tips on installing the DA60?

RE: Introducing the new 50cc Ultimate 20-300
The CG was set 1&1/2 inches back from the leading edge of the top wing. We used the two person method(my son was on the other end). The CG came out perfect, nothing had to be moved. The Ultimate did not require any trim to fly straight. Also, it almost flew like it had auto-pilot. We have a 350' paved runway that helped on landings because it does land a little hot. It never tipped over even in the grass runway that runs parallel to the paved one. It is the best flying of the four 50cc gas planes we have. A Cap232, Edge540, and AW Extra260. I just need a roll of yellow ultacote , a small amount of balsa, and some 30 min. epoxy. When it crashed in the pine trees, everyone thought it was totaled.

RE: Introducing the new 50cc Ultimate 20-300
After two years of many dead sticks, my AW Ultimate ran out of luck. It landed(crashed) in the pine trees at the end of the runway. I am done with the Evolution 58 gx2 engine. The only damage was the CF prop, the top wing and one of the wooden pins on the lower wing. It should have been a lot more, but this is the toughest plane I have ever seen. In the two years of many dead sticks, I have only had to replace the wheel pants. It looks like the DA60 might be the answer to my problem. When the Evolution 58 ran, it had a lot of power with a 24x10 prop. I am hoping to see good results from the DA60. This plane deserves a new engine that won't die while flying.

Thanks Mike, That is very helpful info. I checked DA's website and they still don't have the DA60 listed. I did see an ad in one of the airplane magazines. I hope the DA60 turns out to be a great engine. I have a couple of DA50 engines that are a little over two years old. They both have been flawless, but one does run better than the other.

RE: Introducing the new 50cc Ultimate 20-300
I have been flying the red, black and yellow for almost two years. The plane is perfect, the engine is the problem. The Evolution 58cc has lots of power and the 24x10 prop(CF) works great with this engine. It started out with a defective ignition that caused dead sticks at random. Next, the crankshaft bearings and seal had to be replaced. Also, the muffler was not aligned and it leaked. Horizon replaced the ignition and repaired the engine. The muffler company replaced the muffler. After all these problems, the only damage to the plane was the wheel pants. When the engine runs like it is suppose to, the plane is the best flying of my four 50cc gas planes. I am thinking about buying the DA60 to replace the Evolution 58. Does anyone have any comments about the DA60? Thanks, George Royal

RE: Evolution 58gx2
After three 5 minute flights today, it seems there in no improvement in the low to medium throttle range. It has great top end, but it still sputters when it is not at the top end of the throttle range. The carb settings are a little below two turns. When the low setting is around 1&3/4 or less, you don't have a good transition. The engine runs about 20F cooler with the richer settings.

No play at all, just like it is brand new. The repair notes stated it has an idle of 1600rpm and max of 6500rpm with a 24x10 prop. Where do you send your MVVS for warranty repair?

RE: Evolution 58gx2
I received my Evolution 58 gx2 today. Horizon replaced the front and rear bearings, the front seal and the reed valve. I had rotated the back of the engine 180 degrees to angle the carb upwards for a better fit on the firewall. It came back with it in the normal position. I decided to mount it that way which required cutting a larger hole in the fire wall and swapping the throttle and choke servos. I tried to call the tech to see if he had a problem with the carb rotated 180 degrees, but never got in touch with him. Since it is still under warranty, I decided to leave it in the normal position. The weather looks bad for the weekend, so I will have to wait to try it out. The engine has less than 5 gallons of gas and I broke it in per the manual. With so much power you rarely run it full throttle. I will post the results of the test flight.
