RE: Motor question for RC glider
I stand corrected. I had always assumed the ejection charge lit the upper stage motor. I'm a Level 1, so all my flying is done on Aerotechs.

RE: Motor question for RC glider
ORIGINAL: Charlie P. Anything that ends in a ''-0'' has no ''pop'' at the end.  It just burns through.  The last # is the delay time in seconds.
This may be a little late, but that is incorrect. The zero means there is no delay between motor burn out and the ejection charge, it goes off immediately. You need to find a plugged motor as an earlier poster said.

RE: How to convert an ATX power supply to rc use
I'd like to post my thanks to everyone participating in this thread. I just finished converting a 400 watt ATX power supply and it works great. Mine had two 12v rails, one at 14A and one at 15A, and I combined them into a single 12v post. So far I've only charged at 5A, but it's working great. Nothing gets hot and the resister barely gets warm. I used my multimeter to monitor the voltage. While charging it stays at a constant 12.30v-12.32v, but jumps up to 12.5v briefly every 15-20 seconds. Not sure what's going on, but it works fine.

I've been flying the mCX and mCX2 for a couple years now. Got a DX6i for christmas in anticipation of starting to move into the collective pitch world. Looks like I'll be taking a 4 bladed detour on the way...

RE: Is this Battery/Motor Setup A Good Idea?
That would be right at the limits of the ESC for both the battery and motor. You'd need to keep a close eye on it first few runs and check the temperature of all the components.

RE: new creeper:)
I would guess I'm getting at least 20 minutes out of it. The battery is a 20C I had bought for my 1/16 E-Revo. I know a 55T motor doesn't have much of a current draw so I figured it would work pretty good, which it has. Power is real good. The ESC gets barely warm, the battery and motor are still cool after a full pack.

RE: new creeper:)
First pictures while practicing on some firewood I kicked over. Bone stock with a Tekin FXR ESC and Tekin 55T motor running on a 3S Zippy LiPo (1250 mAh). Baja Bug body was from an old monster truck. Fits almost perfectly, slight bit of rubbing at times. [image]http://inlinethumb35.webshots.com/43618/2687441520034803917S600x600Q85.jpg[/image]

RE: new creeper:)
Glad you get it running rcslsafut, I finished mine this afternoon. Been running it over the woodpile and some remaining snowdrifts in the back yard. I'm pretty amazed so far, and that's with it bone stock. I'll learn how to drive over the next few months then start modding it in the spring.

RE: new creeper:)
Yep, I'm familiar with cogging. But sensored systems have reduced that alot. However, it seems brushed works best at this time so I ordered a Tekin FXR with 55T last night. I liked the option of using a 3S LiPo with a 35T for a little extra speed. I also picked up 220oz/in servo, and I have a spare receiver for my Spektrum DX3.0. I'll be able to hook up the remote diff lock. Now just waiting for the UPS truck!

I guess I'll join the club. I just ordered a new Creeper a couple days ago myself. Any advice on motor/esc combos? Does going brushless have a noticable effect on performance with crawlers? I noticed several companies have brushless crawler combos out now.

RE: Parachute - Recovery: HELP PLEASE!!!!
First thing you have to do is decide what kind of landing speed your plane can handle. Most descent calculators will give you the descent rate in feet per second (FPS). We normally shoot for somewhere between 18-25 FPS depending on the construction/fragility of the rocket. I plugged in 60 inch round chute for 4.5 kilos and got 23.21 FPS descent rate. I think you'll need to be well under 20 FPS. Planes have more stuff to break than rockets. Here's the link to a descent calculator if you want to play with it yourself. http://www.onlinetesting.net/cgi-bin/descent3.3.cgi Bob

RE: Updated info on the 1/16 Slash & E-Revo
I called my LHS yesterday and he said he has one 1/16 E-Revo on order. The computer showed it arriving around April 30. He also said nobody else has asked, so I'm going by at lunch today and putting $100 down so he'll hold it for me. It's going to be a long 3 weeks. Edit: As stated below, Traxxas shows Mid May. Now it's going to be a long 5 weeks.

RE: Super Brain 989 Reliability
Consider how many have been sold and how long it's been available. If there are only a couple problems being reported, I'd be pretty confident. I've had mine for 6 months now and it's worked flawlessly. I was even able to resurrect a couple of old packs with it. You'll be taking the same chance with any charger you buy, so you might as well get the one you want.

RE: Help with Charging
You can discharge at any rate you want. 2.5A seems a little slow (I'm assuming this not a receiver or transmitter pack). 10-20A is probably more what you want. The final voltage should be no less then 5.4V (.9V per cell). I set mine at 1V per cell just to be safe.

RE: best way to re condition nimhs
I'm in the middle of doing the exact same thing. Got some GP3300's and some IB3800's (unused for maybe two years) I'm trying to resurrect with my new Super Brain 989. The 3300's are coming along nicely, but I'll need more patience for the 3800's.

Profile setup for 989
I have a Super Brain 989 on the way to my house as we speak. I printed off the profile chart from the MRC website so I'd have my profiles ready for input when the charger gets here. Reading the manual, it says it will ask for the cutoff peak in mV. Do I input 5mV (for the individual cell drop) or 30mV since it's a 6 cell pack. Of course I have the same question for the discharge Volt cutoff, will I input .9V or 5.4V? I realize it will ask for the number of cells, but the manual isn't clear if it does the calculations for you. Thanks for the help.

RE: NOVAK BRUSHLESS ESC-BRUSHLESS BEGINNER
First, take the caps lock off when posting on a board [;)]. Some people interpret it as shouting, and it makes your post difficult to read. A sensorless controller will work with sensorless and (most) sensored motors. A sensored controller will only work with sensored motors. I've been running fast electric boats for a couple years and have used both types of brushless motors. As to the pros and cons of sensorless vs sensored, I'll leave that to someone with a little more knowledge than me.

RE: Speed,Run,and Gearing
In my XXX-4 I use a 18 pinion and 92 spur. I keep up on the straights with the 1/10 gas trucks with this gear ratio. With a Novak brushless and GP3300 cells I get around 10 minutes run time. And thats pedal to the metal on an indoor dirt track.

Anyone try overdriving their XXX-4?
I put the 41 tooth gear on the front diff to try it out (which makes the front wheels turn slightly faster than the rear wheels). I really like the difference. It tracks a lot straighter coming out of the turns now. It's a little looser under braking. But I like throwing it into turns, so it suits my driving style.

RE: XXX-4 gearing questions..
You got that right Losifan. It cost me about 6 shock towers and a couple of A-arms to realize that top speed has little to do with lap times. After changing gearing I learned to drive much better now that I have a little extra time to set up for turns. I've owned RC cars for 17 years, but only started organized racing about a month ago. Now I realize how much I have to learn about "driving".

I still have my first RC car. A Kyosho Turbo Optima I bought in 87. I'd love to keep it running, but parts are hard to come bye these days.
