RE: Do you use FrSky Modules and Receivers?
I have been using a Turnigy 9X with upgraded firmaware along with FrSky telemetry module for just over to years now with no issues. Ditched all my Spectrum gear as have lost too many planes from brownouts. Also sick of walking around with an empty wallet due to paying out large amounts of money for over priced receivers. I have a good range of planes in my hanger including gliders, vintage glow/electric and large scale gas and can honestly say that the FrSky gear is very reliable. Love having the peace of mind using the telemetry functions and knowing that reciever relink times are almost instantaneous.

RE: Telemaster engine??
Mine has a DLE 20 in it, overpowered but not a problem with some good throttle management. Originally I was planning to set it up as a tug plane for gliders, but due to it being an ARTF kit it would need alot of beefing up in the tail end. As I just could not be bothered removing the covering and spending any more money on it, I scrapped that idea. Previous to the DLE 20ly it flew on an old ASP .46, seemed underpowered on takeoffs but once in the air was a nice slow flyer for relaxing Sunday flys.

RE: Is there a radio that does not lose signal?
FrSky all the way, very few reported cases of any issues with this gear (google and see for yourself!). Also can't beat the price especially on the telemetry. I use it on my small electric foamies right through to my giant scale petrol.

RE: Need help with GP giant big stick with DLE 55
I would not recommend trying friction on your wheels as I tried this and found my GP .60 with dle 30 wanting to tip forward causing prop strike and also plane would always pull to one side on taxing. I found it difficult to get correct and proportional amounts of friction for each wheel and eventually due to wearing of the tubing the friction would get less after some use.

RE: Turnigy/Eurgle 9 channel 2.4 radio
I have had mine for 12mths and upgraded the firmware to ER9X as soon as I got it, which opens up so many features that you would normally only get on a more expensive transmitter. I fly large scale gas planes and wanted peace of mind so I have recently replaced the stock module with an FrSky telemetry module as the stock module does not have a range check feature. One critical thing to check when you get your transmitter is to to remove back cover and check all soldered joints inside as a lot of people (including myself) have had problems with poorly soldered connections.

RE: What causes a brownout?
Precisely why I ditched my Spectrum gear and went for a Turnigy with FrSky module, as I use to have numerous brownouts and slow relink times (using latest version Spectrum 6200' with satellite) and never found a reason or resolution. Even sent my gear back for testing but no problems found, yet other people I know with the same gear have never had an issue. I fly large scale gas and use the FrSky telemetry recievers with peace of mind, been using them for 6 mths now with no problems at all. Pricing is great on the recievers and the Turnigy transmitter with upgraded firmware has so many possibilities in regards to mixing setups. There are mixed feelings on my setup but I have found that those that are negative have no experience with this setup. I guess it all comes down to personnal preference and whether or not you feel comfortable in using a $150 radio on an expensive model.

RE: Turnigy 9X TX with anylink module
I recently upgraded my 9X using a FrSky plug in module, only work I had to do was remove back, disconnect aerial wire and remove aerial. No real skills involved and FrSky module can be unPlugged and Turnigy module and aerial reconnected if required.

RE: Telemaster planes
My 8ft Tele has a DLE20 up front, great on calm days but a bugger to bring down as just wants to keep on flying. Not very aerobatic but then Teles were never designed for it and it suits me being such a docile relaxing flyer and theres nothing like a large plane.

RE: Installing Lipo in Old SuperCub...Need Advice
Change to Lipo well worth it, completely different plane when you do as more power and longer flight times. Reciever should have a plastic link that you remove when using lipos which switches on a lipo cutoff function. I have a 4yr old cub which I get out on windy days for a bit of fun, as with the lipo has plenty of power for battling through the wind. Some have even gone as far as changing the brushed motor out for a brushless but no point as becomes overpowered. Does not cost much these days for a cheap lipo and charger!

RE: To flap or not to Flap. That is the question
I built same sized plane a few years ago (only just sold it) but went for flaps. Initially I had them taped up but I should got bored with flying and so connected them for a play. I figured that it would be easier to build them into the plane during construction rather than making a mess of the wing later on. From my experience found that flaps not required for this particular model but also that they are alot of fun when theres abit of wind.

RE: What size StiK?
Super Stunts 60 (80inch wing span) with a DLE20 up front, best flyer I have ever owned. Flys in all sorts of weather and best thing about it is that it is cheap to run. Also as initial investment cost is low no great loss if I smack it into the deck, as kit was "cheap as chips" and is set up with std Futaba servos, no expensive high torque servos required.

RE: Karbonite with gasser?
Ugly Stick 60 with a DLE20 gasser and std cheap futaba servos with nylon gears. Has done over 100 flights and to date no problems. But I would not recommend using them on anything larger and more expensive, especially where there is a lot of aerobatics involved. Orignal setup was with an OS .61 and which had more vibration than the DLE. I use to race RC gas boats and found that the karbonite gears were not as resilient as the nylon ones when used for the rudder.

RE: Gas tank question
I have a similar tank I got in a kit from Hobby Lobby which Iused in a gas plane. But after about a dozen flights found that vibration from motor had caused the plastic outlets (which are moulded into the tank simiar to your picture) to crack and leak. So went back to using the old style tank with rubber stoper and brass tubes.

RE: Sr Telemaster-Gas?
Well after a long wait due to crap weather, finally completed a maiden. Definitely overpowered as anymore than 1/2 throttle and it just about rips the main wing off due to the diehedral. Takes off within 12 foot on less than 1/4 throttle and flys around real nice like your typical trainer, does basic loops with no problem at all but does not like flying inverted and real slow on the rolls. Biggest problem (as others how found with the telemaster) is that it does did not want to come down, keeps gliding forever. Unless you have a lot of space you are gonna have to force it down using the elevator. Am going to set it up with flaps and see how it goes, will leave the DL20 in as it is so reliable and cheap to run

RE: Sr Telemaster-Gas?
Sandwiched in 1/4 inch ply against existing forwall from inside and pinned/glued sides to it using small dowel and epoxy. Glued in stock triangle balsa inside around joints. Beefed up tail end of fuselage with thin ply as the balsa is quite soft and I was worried that the vibration from gas motor would shake it to pieces. Other last minute mods have been to add a separate servo in rear for tail wheel control and remove two elevators halfs and join using a steel rod to eliminate the spit elevator push rod setup. Will update once maiden complete.

RE: Giant Big Stick
Another good cheap option is the World Models Super Stunt 60, pretty much a Stick and is built fairly solid. I have one set up with a DLE20 and it can be set up to be docile or go like a bat out of hell, all at the flick of a trim switch. I originaly wanted a GP Giant Stick but thought the price was too high.

RE: What does telemetry do for you?
I use the FrSky system in an 80inch wingspan ugly stick with DLE20 gas motor, is one of the cheaper telemetry setups but has good reviews. One advantage for me with this setup is that the transmitter module beeps a certain sequence to indicate range condition of plane, ie when it is nearing max range or when it has reached critical range or when it is recieving interference. A lot of fellow modelers say you should not use these cheaper RC systems in large scale planes but there are a lot of good reviews on the FrSky telemetry modules and recievers and I have not encountered any problems (unlike my Spectrum gear!), and believe me I have pushed my setup to the limit. But then as is the case on this forum others will say differently.

RE: 2.4 Ghz Transmitter Warning!!
Is there not a problem with running 72 sets with a petrol setup, as that is sthe reason I have gone with 2.4 as I have had too many issues with interference from the ignition on my 72 sets. Recently I have found with my spectrum gear that if the transmitter is too close to the plane when I power up the reciever, it will not link so I have to power down and move the transmitter away from the plane before powering transmitter followed by reciever up. Has anyone experienced this problem?
