RE: New question Looking for DLE ppl
Not that I've ever seen. There really isn't any fabrication to it. You take the plate off, solder a section of brass tube to the plate and use a grinding bit on a dremel to smooth it flush on the inside and done.

RE: E-flite Habu 32 DF ARF
Just a tip when you go to install the retracts into the wings, don't use the stock screws. They are too soft and multiple people have had them actually break in the wood blocks trying to use them. I would recommend replacing them with something stronger. I didn't listen and had to drill out one of the screws when it broke flush with the wood.

I had the same issue on the 73" QQ yak. The firewall just de-laminated. No crash no prop strike, it looked like one of those biscuits that has the layers, everything just separated, you could see the individual layers of the wood used in the firewall. I repaired mine the same way, used the old one for a template and cut a new one out of birch ply and pinned it.

Looks like assembly is moving right along. It's one of the easier planes I've put together. It's looking pretty good! I know they don't call for it, but I also scuffed up the rods and applied epoxy to the rods as I slid the wings on also. They did a very good job of setting up all the sufaces being flush on the fuse.

RE: A7 Corsair II opinions and Mods
Mine flew fine on the stock setup, I'm just one of those people that can't leave something alone.[:)] It's a nice stable plane, cruises around just fine, but I was on a mission to make a foam jet fly so fast it would melt from the air friction. I don't have a cheater in mine and really don't plan on cutting one into the airframe. My F-18 is a slow draggy airframe, but it is so easy to fly that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for a first plane at all. To me the A-7 is just as stable but it looks so much better in the air.

RE: Great Planes Extra 300 GP/EP
If I remember right if you shift your CG forward it will help with the pull to the the gear. I'm not a 100 percent sure about which direction you need to shift, but I do know your CG will effect the coupling.

RE: E-flite BAe Hawk 15 DF ARF
Hi Greg, I have this plane and your right it's one of the best looking arf's I've put together but a word of caution to everyone, the blades on the fan are a little on the brittle side so exercise some caution when you tighten the collet. If you aren't careful as you crank down on the collet you can break blades off the fan. That being said this is one of the smoooothest sounding edf's I've ever used! It flew fine on the 3s pack but it really comes to life on a good 4s pack.[:D]

RE: Covert Twist 3D 40 to electric or new?
A mini funtana-x or a 3DHS extra 300 would also be good choices and would fly with the packs you have already. Of course the twist that you already have would be good on electric also. The saito that you have already would probably be my choice for powerplant seeing as you already have it, but if the fuel is a really big issue, sell it and convert the twist over would be my suggestion.

Hey Greg, How bout a little more info on the anti-spark resistor? You said 100 ohm? Is this an off the shelf part that can be bought at Radio Shack? I'm curious because this it the first time I've seen anyone use one to kill the power spark. It's not a big deal on the smaller stuff but I've got a 6s system that makes the guys in the pitts jump when I plug it in.

RE: Best 70mm EDF Combo
I had a hoffman beast with a HET 6904 fan system and it was a monster! Awesome performance and thrust, but the airframe that I had it installed in couldn't do it any justice. The setup was in a HL F-16 and the airframe just had too much drag. Speeds were in the low 100's in straight level flight, but it was a battery slayer for sure. I was using TP 3850 4 cells and mixed throttle flight was only good for just a hair over 4 minutes, but it was a wild 4 minutes . Amp loads were spiking over 112 amps and would settle to 91 amps after a couple of seconds with over 1200 watts of input. I loved the motor but hated the power demands. I changed it out for an inrunner and dropped my amp load to 61 amps and lost about 10 mph off the top end. It was kinda like having an olds rocket engine in a chevette, was cool but it cost too much to fill the tank for that short stoplight to stoplight run.

Would probably fly it fine. It would be more scale in performance, but if your not looking to do high energy aerobatics it would be fine.

RE: How Do You Like Your Seagull Ultimate 90?
I flew mine on an evolution 1.00 w/bisson pitts and a xoar 15x6 prop and had zero problems with power. For control I was using JR DS821's all the way around and a regulated 2cell lipo to power em with. Came out around 9lbs dry. It flew fine, tracked straight, tumbled, and would do awesome spins. A 1.20 should make it a rocket in vertical.

They told you to get the wrong plug. They had you get the resistor plug and you don't need that type of plug for the rcexl ignition. What they should have told you to get was the NGK CM6 plug.
ORIGINAL: obriendigital I am getting ready to mount my Saito FA-82 and am a bit confused by the engine mount...sorry this is the first time I have dealt with this style of engine mount. On page 19 of the manual it says to use the hex head bolts along with washer and lock washer directly into the plastic engine mount. Is this enough to hold the Saito just in the plastic mount? Or should I consider drilling through the whole engine mount and getting a longer hex bolt and attach a lock nut? Thanks.
It will be enough but I would still recommend going ahead and putting the longer bolts in with lock nuts on the other side. A four stroke vibrates pretty heavily and a little extra on the mount could make the difference between a lot of great flights or a bad day at the field.[:)]

RE: Fair price to assemble ARF??
ORIGINAL: chashint Interesting (and good / reasonable) responses. I would like to ask a question on this subject too. When you assemble an ARF for a fee do you research the particular plane for any known weak points and fix those issues ? Do you inspect all of the structure you can see and add glue / triangle stock as you deem necessary ? Someone mentioned 'RX ready' does that mean you used your own RX to mechanically set the linkages for correct throw or does that mean this still needs to be done. I am just trying to get a feel for how much of the time consuming fine detail work is considered a part of the assembly price.
I build the planes as if they were going to be mine. Any mods necessary or structural reinforcement is done during the build. I use a hitec servo programmer to set the servo center. I also set the planes up to the manufacturers recommended CG unless I know for a fact that it's wrong. If they want it done I will also do the maiden and trim flight. The important thing for me before I start putting someone else's plane together is going over all the expectations upfront so that it's clear to me what the plane owner is expecting for the price.
