RE: TORA, TORA, TORA, Val has landed
This is the drop bomb: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=10624 I forgot to wrap the bomb with tape, so I managed to break it even on tall grass. I will replace it with a new one from foam.. BTW, I had some more flights with the Val this week end. This plane flies and land as a trainer.!!

RE: TORA, TORA, TORA, Val has landed
I didn't want to remove the covering because it's a pain for me to match the colour later, so I replaced the original wing joiners for new ones. The original joiners were 8 mm thick, I did the new from 5mm birch ply, plus a jacket from 2 mm liteply for the sides and 5mm birch ply for top an bottom of the box. I had to sand the sides until fit. The joiners are epoxied to the outer wing panels, and slide into the "boxes" glued permanently to the centre section. Four aluminium traps hold everything together.

RE: TORA, TORA, TORA, Val has landed
Concerning nose weight, I placed a ply tray on top of the engine to carry the CDI (Enelop 6 elements) and Rx (Enelop 4 elements) batts. The CDI is also placed in a bracket inside the cowl, and I had to add some lead, I cannot say exactly how much, but around 160-180 grs. You can see it in the batteries box floor. The cowl is not so big for a plane of this size, so you will need to butch it for any gasser, bigger the engine, bigger the cowl holes.. With the MVVS 26 she is slighty underpowered for my taste, if I had to redo I will try with the PTE36R, as it seems to be powerful enough, and because the rear inverted Pitts style muffler in order to reduce the holes in the cowl.

RE: TORA, TORA, TORA, Val has landed
Hi, This is my Val, with MWS 26 petrol engine, CG at 132 mm from the leading edge, AUW 7,1 Kgs, working canopy (a disaster, I'm currently working in the release 3[:D]), dropable bomb from HobbyKing and wing in three pieces. I will try to find and post some pictures showing the modifications if anyone is interested. I can't say much about the flight, because after take off and four trimming circuits, the engine died in the wrong place and had to land in the rough. No big damage, but not flyable for a while.. Anyway, she is very gentle, and not overpowered with this engine.

RE: ESM P-51 D
CG at 130 mm from leading edge (see picture). Depending on your particular setup, you could need some weight in the tail. This one needed 60 gr bolted in the tail. Very good flyer with this CG. Regards

RE: KMP / YT Me 109 E Build Thread
Hi, You could consider this setup of the oil cooler flap. It is very effective cooling the engine in the summer days of the sunny Spain..The engine is a well beaten OS 108 and the plane is a joy to fly. Regards

RE: Opinions on ESM P-47 or any ESM Warbird
This is my ESM P47, Evo 26 cc gas, ESM retracts (changed the filling valve), very good flyer..

RE: esm corsair retracts
I did the original spring modification in the Skyraider retracts, and I should have somewhere the spring details, if you are interested. However, the retracts in the pictures are a different version (Generation VI?), as I can see a conic gear that mine doesn't have. I suppose this gear starts to rotate as soon as it starts to deploy/retract. The problem with the old retracts is they deploy all the travel down with the disk wheel quite flat against the air flow and only rotate in the very last moment. May be you don't need the spring modification with this new retracts..

RE: KMP CORSAIR 1ST FLIGHT
Yes, quite simple... My only concern was about the strengh of the spring, too much and never retract, too weak and useless.

RE: KMP CORSAIR 1ST FLIGHT
They are not the best possible pics, but I hope you can get the idea. The spring is 9mm diameter, 32 mm long and 8 mm long under compression.

RE: KMP CORSAIR 1ST FLIGHT
I had the same problem with the KMP Skyraider. It seems to be related with the way the wheels deploy, they don't twist until almost full extend and the whole wheel disk faces the wind flow at 90 degrees all the travel down. I had a lot of belly landings, and a lot of times the gear deployed in the last second, few inches above the ground, full flap and near stall speed. What I finally did was to add a spring inside the cilinders (300 grams compression spring), and got something like air up/air-spring down. This worked flawlessly until I lost the receiver and totaled the plane...

RE: New KMP 70
I have just finished one of them, only 4 flights so far... The 3 first flights with a Saito 120, a little underpowered, and a little tail heavy as well (my fault...) The forth flight with Evo 26 gas and CG at 128 mm from leading edge (destructions say 136 mm) was much better. I think it will be a very good flyer.. My landing gear also woobled, until I discovered you can adjust the maximum travel of the legs by spining a pin that joints the L shaped flanges of the actuators (no destructions about that) Now the filling valve leaks, but this is a small inconvenience...a Robart will do the job. I hope this helps.

RE: Spanish Bucker Jungmann Paint Scheme
I guess you already know some of this, but just in case... Germany sent to Spain 50 Bucker Jungmann, most of then with the 105 CV Hirth engine. Over the years, CASA built 500 more, as Casa 1131, all with the 125 CVTigre G-IV, being externally the main difference the vent holes in the cowl. Casa planes had (still have) the big hole in the rigth side and Bucker in the left side, looking from in front of the plane. There are some examples (at least I remember one) in the Spanish Museo del Aire, near Madrid. They usually are very cooperative with modelers and should be able to answer you about the colours (info@aire.org) The Infante de Orleans Foundation has some examples in flying condition. They are very enthusiastic about everything aviation related, and have a very good relationship with modelers. It's not uncommon they fly over a RC field near their aerodrome when there is some modeling exhibition (Two years ago, one CASA 1131 broke the formation over the field, dived and did a beatiful roll 10 meters high..) You can reach them at fio@fio.es I hope this helps.

The 3298/26 in the pic below. Although it's said that it reduces sligthy the power when compared with the Pitts style muffler, is not a problem in this particular setup.

RE: KMP NEW A1 Skyraider - pics
Very nice cockpit. Some pics of mine with MVVS 26/Evo 26 (excuse the poor quality), a very compact instalation. With the EI batt on top of the engine, no lead required, CG at 124 mm, AUW 5,8 Kg. Very nice flyer, no bad habits.. Sorry, no flying pics.

RE: KMP Stuka-build details
Just guessing: You could have the ailerons and flaps missaligned (too low), this could explain the need for almost full down elevator trim in level flight. The engine negative incidence and the drag induced by flaps when deployed could counteranct the ballooning, you will need some throttle to avoid stalling her.

RE: Nasty elevator induced snap
Piroflip explained it very well, this model will not allow you anything but sweet and slow elevator inputs. Mine was only comfortable with 5 mm up and down elevator travel (3/16") and was able to do nice (and big) loops.

RE: CMP Yak 54 50 size
Hi, Sowega The GMS 76 could help you to balance without placing the batt next to the carburator..[:)] and you will have plenty of power. Anyway, try to keep it as light as possible, because the snaps increase very quickly with the weight...

RE: CMP Yak 54 50 size
I had one some time ago. OS 46 FX with Slimline Pitts muffler, APC 11x7, battery attached to engine mount and no lead. The original carbon landing gear broke at third landing (grease landing!) and changed by aluminium one and reinforced the plate. The plane is a little heavy for its size (it spans only 1300 mm or so) and needs big figures, otherwise it will snap. Very elevator sensitive, I ended with only 4 mm up and down (yes, only 4 mm). Not a beginers plane..

RE: Brian Taylor 68" AT-6 / Harvard plans
This is a very old plan, no more available. Now you can find only the bigger version. I had it collecting dust in the workshop for years and I finally decided to give her a chance a couple of years ago. I have Eurokit retracts with homemade legs, no flaps (she doesn´t need them) and OS 91 with Pitts style muffler and some more homemade plumbing. Very good flyer... Not a very good pic, but no more in flight. Victor

RE: Nitro Models Ryan PT-20
I had this plane some time ago with OS 46 and Pitts muffler. As Georgee noted, very pleasant flyer. Main surgery needed in the landing gear: the wires in my kit were bad tempered, like glass, and they broke in the first landing. I bent a new pair from 4mm wire, placed additional grooved hard woods in the wing and added 3mm struts from these wood blocks to the gear. Pants were a little difficult to place after this modification, but the result was worth.. Regards

RE: H9 T-34 - Did you strengthen Nose Rails?
Very flimsy. I couldn't get a straight ground run 'til took the rails away and placed a conventional nose gear in the firewall. Not scale, but flyable and very well by the way. Pay attention to the hardware, I totalled it when the plastic elevator link broke in flight... Regards

RE: cmp focke wulf questions
Hi, maeu I had it with OS 120 FS and 750 grs (sorry, I'm metric) of lead in the nose. A little underpowered, and a very nice flier. It would be good to reinforce the stabilizer (I had some carbon fiber there) where it joints the fuse. On the other hand, start with flaps at no more than 20 degrees and increase 5 degrees each time until you reach the right set up. Happy landings.. Greenbaron
