RE: RotoFlow Fuel Tanks
I have 4 of these. One 12Oz on a dle20, two 24s on dle 50 and 85,one 32 on a da120. This will be the second season on the first 3. I have flown one of the 24's again a few times this year with no issues. Seems to be as advertised. Gregg

RE: Fuel Clunk Line too rigid?
I've used two of these for the last two months of the season. They seem to work as advertised and we will have to see how they perform after this season. The down line and inverted performance are wonderful. I have a third in my new Aero Works 100cc Yak55 under way. They do have larger sizes not listed yet and you would have to call for them. They are a bit pricey, but if they keep me from rebuilding tanks for a few seasons or more, with no fuel dead sticks, for me it's worth it. Gregg http://www.jlproducts.net/ProductRotoFlow.html

Ran out of good sky and time, but retuned on the ground... with the cowl on ...and it is good. Transistions and minmum gurgle. and comes down to idle quickly now. Now if the rains would stay away..I'll fly her. Thanks, Gregg (Gas N Go)

Good info on the timing Jodi..thanks. So, when all said and done, run at full for 45 seconds or so after you think you got her, come to quick idle and if it doesnt repond for a bit, it's too lean on the low in a nut shell..wow. Was driving me nuts with my idle down settings, wasn't dying..reponse good.... thought of linkage issues..timing..yada yada..but she came down after a bit..learning is good. Thanks guys. I'll report back as I get a chance to start fresh with the needles with this in mind. Greggg (Gas N Go)

See posts around 885 page 36. I found it on a search for timing..and wala, it discribed what was happening. Idle would go to normal after about 30 seconds or blipping. I am seeing this too, and have not had a chance to redo the needles. Makes perfect sense. I beleive I've done just that..leaning the low end too much to get that perfect idle. May have a chance to play with it after work tomorrow. Oh yeah..temperatures have gone up a bit around since needles were set by some of yas??

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
After the fourth flight not filmed she was dialed in. No rich popping at all and good transition. Good results for 6 tanks through only. Gave the camera man a break. She was a tad fat both high and low. and I adjusted with each flight. Due to the setup..had to take her down to cowl off, tweek, cowl and all back on and fly. She was different with cowl on and in flight enough to have to do it that way. She's good now. Yeah..I threw the stock plug out and used NGK CM6 from the get go. Thanks for watchin. Gregg (Gas N Go)

I finally had a break in the weather, field conditions and off from work at the same time to maiden the PT-17 Stearman. After 4 flights the DLE 20 is dialed in. Didn’t get the fourth one on film. Here’s the first 3 edited down. Gregg (Gas N Go) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMQ_iaB3x1A

Jim, That combo should be sweet with the AT-6. The good news is I can get to the needles without having to bend a screw driver!! I'll run it a few more times, and as long as I set the peak down about 150 from top and good transition..I'll be happy. I was just glad to confirm fuel and electrical connections for running ..and not slip and fall....lol!! Come on spring. Gregg (Gas N Go)

Well I ran the DLE20 on my PT-17 Stearman today. Got 2 tanks through her with redline synthetic at 30/1 . After a bit I set the needles and am getting 7900 with xoar 17x6 prop. Thats with the smaller jtech pitts muffler installed. Next time it will be in the air after checking with cowl installed. Here is a pretty boring video from today. Come on spring. RE: Fuel lines,What Size?
I've used 1/8 id tygon with good results on 50cc to 85cc. I believe dubro classifies this as large for them. The vent line extended and ran that way keeps the loosing of fuel through that line down to a minimum when flying on a down line. Tip your plane forward on the ground without doing that to see the fuel you loose in a little bit of time. Gregg (Gas N Go)

Good job Jim. Nice video and editing. Just enough time to trim her out I see. Can't wait for weather to break in Jersey. I may be able to at least run the engine Saturday or Sunday. Our field is reported to be accessable, but little snow covered still with a bit more crappy weather tomorrow. As long as I can get to the tables, I'll be happy to get a few tanks through her since it should be 40 degrees or above. Even though the PT-17 takes a bit more to put togeather, I'm sure you will be flying it a lot this season. Gregg (Gas N Go)

I'll just go with the red line at 32/1 and skip the ashless .Thanks for your time and insight on the ashless oil, as others have said to just use the redline from the start also. Now I know "why". Gregg

RE: Dle-20 Blew up....
ORIGINAL: jedijody
ORIGINAL: wjcalhoun Jody: Just so I'm clear on the 32:1 ratio rec: the higher ratio is a function of the increased need for lubrication in the smaller displacement engine (20), right? Not necessary for the 55 or 30? Sorry for the slightly off topic post.
The DLE factory recommends and it is stated in ALL DLE factory manuals for ALL DLE engine models 30:1 fuel/oil ratio. However, except for the DLE20, all DLE engines purchased from VVRC (which I administer the warranty for), if a high quality synthetic or mineral oil is used, can be run at a leaner saturation but a good rule of thumb to follow for minimum oil content is 40:1 for mineral oils and 50:1 for synthetics. Personally I prefer 32:1 in all engines all the time forever,.. period. The DLE20, due to it's small size, high loads for it size and the high RPM it's commonly run at must use a minimum of 4 ounces of oil to 1 gallon of gasoline (32:1). I won't go into what I define as high quality oil again here except that it should be labeled for use solely in air cooled engines, be certified by the API TC, or TC+, and or meet JASO FC, FD requirements, and that Lawnboy and Amsoil are not fit for use in any DLE engine. For the purpose of warranty no one can legally tell anyone what oil brand or type they must use, only the requirements the oil must meet and that failures due to lack of lubrication are not covered under warranty. Whether one purchases the engine from VVRC or anyone else, the end user, or anyone else viewing pictures of it on their computer, does not determine cause of failure  or whether a failure will qualify for a warranty claim. For this reason I recommend that all end users consult with their selling dealer on questions of oil type and content if they are not willing to follow the DLE manual guidelines.
Jody, so lawn boy ashless is not to be used for breakin? Not truly air cooled oil? I've been usiing this for about 2 gallons or so then red line sythetic on other brand engines as recommended. Red line seems great. So better off using Pennzoil air cooled for the first few gallons? Thanks, Gregg ( Gas N Go)

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Jim, Yeah..thats a good thing..ground failures are better then air. Even if it did not move much, its sitting in a good heat source. I'm going to glue a piece of velcro on the inside cowl were it exits, and a loop on the spiral wrap on the wire. This should keep it a bit snugger for the spin affect it gets in flight, and still be easy enough to get the cowl off. Preventable accidents. I can tell you a story of zip ties chaffing into batteries, causing a Wild Hare SU26 50cc to die a horrible death..but thats another story. I use velcro now for everything but outside fuel connections. Thanks.... Gregg (Gas N Go)

Yeah..draw back to the pitts and the tight cowl. I debated that my self. I have attached it to the left on the wall to almost stop left to right play and double wrapped it. It will be a thing to check before flights, but should be ok now. Gregg (Gas N Go)

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
When using the shock absorbing dubro mount and you want to use the Pitts muffler, you need to get the jtech compact one. The engine also needs to be mounted out to the edge, or you wont make it. The muffler just fit and cleared the dubro mounts. I’m glad I ordered the compact one..if not, it would have hit the mounts being ¼ inch more in diameter. I can also just get to the needles on the bottom, with the engine off of course. But that’s ok. Did a bit of painting on the dummy radial. Come on spring. Gregg (Gas N Go)

RE: >Question: Why do you love rc aviation?
I've have always like planes, and built many plastic models when young. When I got hooked on computers, I started to get into the Microsoft Flight Sims big time. One farthers day 6 years ago, my daughter got me an Air Hog battery operated "toy". I then self progressed in the electric park flyer road..learning on my own. Found a local club near by a year later..field is 6 miles from my house, and joined. Soloed after a month with my trainer and progressed quickly with plane types. I flew so much when there, (have slowed a bit) I was given the nick name Gas N Go. Only we know the feeling of flying that plane. It is the most relaxing and intense feeling I get at the same time. You forget all your worldly troubles.until you have an issue that is. ..lol. It is my medicine...you see, I quit drinking a 6 months before joining the club. Been sober ever since..but have this new addiction...but you need something. Needless to say, the only sim in the computer now is Real Flight. I now fly mostly gas(cheaper fuel), and am loving my Aeroworks 85cc Extra 260, my latest fix. Gregg (Gas N Go)
ORIGINAL: jstanton I just figured out the JTEC pitts muffler causes a loss of about 300RPM on the DLE-20. I was only getting 7800RPM with a MAS 16x8 prop. I remembered I had a SY 16x8 prop so I changed props and did another test run and now I am getting 8200RPM on the DLE-20 with the JTEC pitts muffler and a SY 16x8. That is only 300rpm less then Jodie reported with his DLE-20 and an SY 16x8. I now believe I have the engine running right and I cannot wait for better weather so I can do the maiden flight of my DLE-20
Good info Jim, I ordered the compact one to be able to clear that dubro mount. I estimate from info from another poster and you that I will be about 500 down from the standard mufflers reading wih the compact pitts then. Good luck again on the maiden..and try to post video. Just for you. My friend Dave and I trying to fly formation at our Warbirds event with PT17's Mine had a 120 os 4 stroker on her. A third plane tried to join in the fun. This is just before I sold it to fund a new Pitts Python from Aero Works. I regreted later in selling her ,and the reveiws on this DLE made me retro back. They are great flyers.
