RE: FLORIDA RC AIRBOATERS
The purpose is to give the RC airboater of fl the opportunity to race under professional conditions. With lap counters, time clocks and all tools necessary for a professional race. All airboats will have a class. Gas, nitro, air rudders, water rudders ext. Andy. I agree we must crawl before we can walk but we have been crawling for a while now, maba has been racing and the rcaa has been setting speed records. Its time to pick up this hobby and teach it how to walk. In my eyes the best way to get this hobby walking is to have events in various public places so the kids and adults can come out and see the boats run and maybe eventually they will start working on there own boats. At past races that I have attended the spectator turn out has always been good. I'm sure that some of the people that witnessed airboats running by skilled divers felt like they had to have one. Thats where manufacturers come in, if they are attending a race and a manufacturer has a both set up, the people that were impressed with the boats my buy one or at least get info on how to contact them in the future. Its a win for everyone the racers, the spectators, and manufacturers. pinky d brain. It would be nice if the water prop guys would except us, but for now they will not. after we show them how an organized airboat race is ran and the crowds it draws, then they may take notice.

RE: airboat in progress
Davids rc sounds like you are well on your way. There are a lot of skilled airboat builders on this forum that can help you. Do you have pics so we can see what you are working with? You should meet up with DJLaPalme, he lives in your area.

RE: FLORIDA RC AIRBOATERS
Chris your input is greatly appreciated. And you have a point about people not wanting to spend money to race there boats. Not everyone that has an rc car races it, that’s just how it is. But there are people that would like to race there boats and are willing to pay for the insurance. It is great that you have access to a pond that doesn’t require insurance. Its to bad that there aren’t more places like that around the state of Florida. Most places are worried about being sued if someone were to get hurt. So in my eyes this looks like a reasonable fix. This idea is still on the drawing board and this is the whole reason behind this post. Maybe if we ever get this off the ground we could hold a race at your location. Sorry dad for taking over your post but I would love to see this happen

RE: FLORIDA RC AIRBOATERS
All we are trying to do is make rc airboating main stream. I met with rc airboaters from all over the country, they are all good people and passionate about this hobby. This will be an organization that will welcome everyone. This post is to try to get input on how to accomplish the subject at hand and not to resolve old personal differences. So please everyone stick to the subject. For the ones that would like to see events like we are discussing please give your input.

RE: FLORIDA RC AIRBOATERS
Lets get this back on track. Another reason to have insurance is for your protection. Lets say you are running your boat at a pond and some people show up to watch. The spectators walk to the other side of the pond to enjoy the show. Now your start showing off and accidentally run your boat on to shore near the spectators. And before you know it, one of the kids with the group runs over to tries to put your boat back in, while you are jumping up and down yelling for him not to. Well he puts his hand in the prop and the parents think someone should pay. I'm not a lawyer so I don't know the laws but I think that would be a good time to have insurance.

RE: FLORIDA RC AIRBOATERS
My father built my first airboat for me when I was ten years old, back in 91, so you can say I have been participating in this hobby most of my life. In the last ten years this hobby has exploded here in FL. I think this is the right time to get this rolling in a direction where we can have state wide races. If we have success here, other states may see what FL. is doing and start their own and then we could have national races. This would be for the serious hobbyist that would want to race their boats and if they are a manufacturer a good way to get their product in front of the masses. In order to do this there would need to be dues, no if and or buts about it. I am with dad(lester) the only way to jump to the next level is to have insurance.

shaft drive steering
I am working on a shaft drive steering system to replace my hydraulic system until I work out the bugs. I cant use control rod because the prop is to low to the deck, so lester said to try shaft drive steering. Apparently they did this with rc planes back in the stone age. Lol. If anyone knows the right name for this system please let me know.

Ill placed boat + a old water oak = bad day. if the boat was back another foot it would have been toast. It is not as bad as it looks, it can be fixed.

RE: 2010 Winds of the Swamp
Every year the winds of the swamp race is better than the year before. The lap timing/counting system was a giant step forward in boat racing. It was nice to know for a fact what place everyone was in throughout the race. A big thanks to hal and all who helped put this race together. For everyone who could not make it this year you should go ahead and put it on the calendar for next year, because Im sure it will be even better. Well ptr34 I had some control issues and I was not on my A game, and in a maba race if you don’t come with you’re a game you will get beat every time. Ken, Billy and Dave ran a fast race with fewer mistakes. I did come home with 2nd in the open class so I am happy about that. The Cajun twins were fast and handeled well, and with the rookie of the year (ken) driving it we all got smashed. Very nice boat hal you did a real good job. I will be working on a new boat with the twins in mind.
