ORIGINAL: w8ye I don't think the glow manifold will find into the gas head It works better to use the gas manifold but watch the seal at the carb end. The gas manifold is smaller in diameter than the glow manifold
thanks for the info i will see someone here said the glow manifold fits good , i know you have both so we will see ! i was having nightmares over this motor so if it runs good on glow i will be very happy and no more wasted days at the field.

RE: Saito - Pro FG 20
Ok i got my motor back from horizan for the fourth time , i asked for a replacement or refund no dice they would not even discuss it with me. the report i got back with the motor is a joke two pages long they changed the carb third one now!! they tried to tune it replaced the plug twice, took the motor apart lapped the valves told me i was running the wrong oil. ya right thats why it wont run. i went to the field sat and Sunday first i had to tune it just so it would idle they said it ran great, what a joke i tuned for 10 hours never would run right tuned a click at a time.changed several $22 plugs ran rich then lean several dead sticks the last one ended with the engine tearing out the fire wall, thanks horizan appreciate that. i fixed the fire wall and Sunday afternoon i finally got it purring perfect idle super low then instant acceleration to 8800 rpm with a 16-8 could probally go to 16-10 no hesitation heres what i did, this is not a joke !! pulled out the ignition module and crank sensor and battery pulled out the spark plug and installed a glow plug filled tank with nitro 20/20 i ran the vent tube to the muffler opened the low speed two extra turns and the hi speed two or so extra turns , started right away and sounds perfect.this shows me that this carb is for a glow engine ,i will run it this way till it explodes or keeps running ,i have no more interest in working with horizan from now on, i give up horizan you win you just lost a good customer and i will never give saito my hard earned money again, there are plenty of other good companys who make gas motors out there. i thank all of you who tried to help me and continue to help others,

RE: Saito - Pro FG 20
got a call from horizan today they tested the motor and found it was not running correctly they changed the plug no difference then swaped the carb it then ran better they also lapped the valves and cleaned up the cylinder and now they say it runs very good, i have to say the rep was very helpfull over the phone and said to give them a call after i get it up in the air for a test, also he saw a little carbon buildup i have been using redline, so i ordered some evolution oil to try out , i am keeping my fingers crossed again i will see next weekend.

RE: Saito - Pro FG 20
ORIGINAL: Neo gold Another good full days flying with the Fg20!!!...No deadsticks & running OK....i'm getting 15min+ flight times & flying well over that...thumbs get sore!.. Was set to have the last flight of the day when i noticed the engine turned over very easily, ah i thought' a 'popped off' rocker pushrod, so i left that & flew the spit. Getting home & checking out the engine revealed just what i thought, the EX rocker push-rod had popped off to the side, as the exhaust valve was sticking...no sweat, i just cleaned out the top end with brake cleaner & sprayed in some easing oil, freed up nicely!!...ready for flight next weekend. I was going to replace the spark plug...but just gave it a clean & popped back in, also reset the valve clearances. sorry to hear about your problem with the motor good luck getting a refund or exchange they will just send it back to you again so you can spend more time on it good luck !! Note:...still on original carb & plug...std dci unit. Btw..this is the quietist 4-stroke engine in my 18 strong fleet!!...on half throttle very soft exhaust note.
i have tryed a new plug no change , like i said i have tuned it to peak rpm then back a click or two , for what ever reason as soon as it is unloaded it misses at this point i know it is not tuning i went lean then rich a click at atime low and hi and back again probally 60 flights since i got it back from horizan last time. maybe i will get lucky and it will be lost in shipping, its on the way to horizan again

ya i wrote down all the settings as i went we used a rpm meter to get the hi speed dialed in had it close but i just cant handle the sputtering, its going in for the 4th time it always comes back saying smooth idle thru hi speed transition i think your right about ignition one more try but after this i am ready to try a different motor,

i just got back from the field but no luck for me i did as Pete suggested and started over using the manual a step at a time tuned top end tuned low end then top again and low again, sounded great on the bench but in the air it sputtered above half throttle , i tuned it more but no luck its 4 clicks on the top either way it wont run, going back to horizon again i do not want to spend all summer tuning good luck guys,

RE: Saito - Pro FG 20
ok i checked the needles the high speed was 1- 1/2 and the low was 3 -1/4 this was where we left them from the last flight missing very bad 1/2 to wot. got the new instructions going to start from scratch with a new plug, also when i get it running good on the ground i am puttting on a small prop to see if it sputters with less load ? i will use a tach and a temp sensor when testing. may be next week before i can spend some time on the testing i will let you know what i find

RE: Saito - Pro FG 20
i will check needle positions tonight , i did adjust a click at a time and flew ea time until it got real bad and died in the air about 5 clicks from lean to rich on the high speed , anything beyond that and it dies , the low speed is extremely sensitive on mine not much adjustment there. i put a new plug in this weekend very little if any improvement, i had the cowl off for this weekend testing hoping that was the problem , i noticed the settings for the needles about the same with cowl on or off, thanks for the help i will hold off on sending it back . i want to try a bigger prop maybe a 16/10 maybe this motor likes a heavy load on it ,when its on the ground at wot this is the highest load and it the engine sounds great 8700 rpm with a 16/6 , so this tells me the ignition is working right, could it be a timing issue ?? also went with a 15/6 just to see what it would do not much change.i am not an expert on tuning by any means but at our field we have a couple of great engine tuners that have spent time with me adjusting the engine so i think we have slowly gone thru the settings and always have the top end miss we even set it so that it was missing on the ground then flew it to see if that would work , it was worse was definitely to rich. hoping to figure this out most guys having the same basic problem on top end while in flight. Regards Greg

RE: Saito - Pro FG 20
my tank is wrapped in the foam and i have a one way fill valve , i tried it without the valve just to be sure no change. i have to agree with wy8e i have thoght it was ignition from the beginning, very strange it runs good on ground but as soon as it gets off the runway it starts sputtering, idle to around 1/2 throttle is perfect i have been enjoying flying the plane , it is a P47 arf top flight seems to have great power for half throttle.
ORIGINAL: hawkpilot It just sounds like it is leaning out or over revving or both....... yeaaahhhhhh....post #600......wooohooo
it may be over reving but with a 16/8 its hard to beleve, i have tuned it a click at a time to lean and rich limit so something else is going on.

RE: Saito - Pro FG 20
i have tried with and with out the cowl , seems to make very little difference on the way the engine runs on mine. i have about one sq in inlet and 3 sq in outlet in the cowl. my tank center is center on the carb engine runs the same full or low. my engine sits about 1/2 inch from the firewall so the air hole is not a issue on mine, i have tried 15;6,7,8 and 16;6,7,8 no difference, does anyone have an idea why it runs perfect on the ground but no amount of tuning will fix the sputter in the air?? i am running red line oil recommended rate and the rockers look good i have good compression and a blue spark. i have slowly tuned beyond the rich and lean limits of both the low and high speed needles ,which by the way is a very small amount 6 clicks at the most so it does not take to long to test the engine in flight, horizan tested my engine last time with a 5 cell nimi so i purchased one hoping it would run better no dice. i will try again after i get it back and report what i find.

RE: Saito - Pro FG 20
ok just got back from the field i tried out the new carb i tuned and tuned some more, i got the top end dialed then kept tuning the low end click at a time got the top end about 4 clicks cc or ccw and it would sputter very bad also tuned the low end again after getting the top end adjusted, put a new plug in but still sputters in the air ,tried a click at a time on the top no good, back to horizan it goes, good luck guys post any fixes you find,

i am trying mine tomarrow it sounds good on the ground we will see , be sure you have a good spark plug and if it starts acting up change the plug. i have been cleaning them with brake cleaner and blowing them off seems to work well, i think i am still on the rich side so i will have to lean it out slowly

RE: Saito FG-20
i talked to horizan today what a joke !!! i told them this would be the forth time i have sent it in and at this point i just want a credit towards a glow motor, the guy totally ignored what i was saying and told me he was sending me a shipping label , like he was doing me a favor . again i said have spent 9 mounths countless hours on this motor i just want a refund , he then said to be sure and state what the problem is when you send it back to us. what a fn joke. last time i sent it in they replaced the carb after i told them it was an ignition probally, when i got it back it would not start because the needle was set so rich. going to see what i can do one more time , i think this will be the last time i try and make this motor run correctly its just not worth the agravation its a nightmare i dream about this motor missing everytime i fly, i had an expert engine tuner give it a try first he took notes as to where the sweet spot was for the low end then did the same for the top end he then recorded the rpm results adjusting a click at a time got it sounding good then back up in the air it started sputtering we adjusted this thing for 6 hours no tuning would work we also went to far each direction untill it would die so we knew where the sweet spot was but it still has a problem stay tuned. I HAVE SENT MINE BACK 3 TIMES NOW STILL RUNS HORIBLE I HAVE AROUND 50 HOURS TUNING THIS MOTOR AND CHECKING EVERTHING POSSIBLE, HORIZAN AND SAITO DO THE RIGHT THING AND REFUND OUR MONEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
