RE: Top flite seafury build and kit bashed tempest
I used the 3/8" struts, however the robart gear that I used were not strong enough to do the job. I am not overall impressed with the robart air driven gear. If I ever do use them again, it will be on a lighter plane. I definately recomment the gas engine vrs the glow. I like the reliability of gassers.

RE: 50cc Edge V2 has landed
Just in case anyone is wondering about the paint that I used. The plane is covered in metallic blue monokote and I used auto-air pearl blue over there sealer black and it's almost a dead match. The metal flake in the paint is a little larger than in the monokote but the color is almost perfect. I am very pleased with the end result. On top of all that, the aircraft fly's great.

RE: 50cc Edge V2 has landed
I crashed my edge last fall and had to purchase a new airframe, of course you probably all know that they now longer carry the 540T so I bought the 88" 540. Well my canopy wings and tail survived the crash so since I was recovering the airframe anyway I decided to use the formers from the 540T fuselage and put the 2 place canopy on the new edge. everything fit very well, all the tail feathers are the same and with some small modifications to the wings, I beleive they will work as well. Well I got it done for the most part and maidened it tonight and lets just say that with the DLE 55 in it, it flies incredible. I'm very pleased so far. So I leave you with a couple of pics of my almost finished but flyable wild hare 88" edge 540T

Ya, I got to sit in there thunderbolt two years ago. That airplane was definately made for the larger pilots. you've got room for days inside that beast. visability I think is better as well. I've also been in the P-39 and you can keep that one. Not quite as bad as the 109 but it's still a tight fit for anyone 6 foot tall. I've been in all the grumman cats and there great

RE: Top flite seafury build and kit bashed tempest
I finally got off my U know What and finished hooking up my new engine for this aircraft. I had a little trouble getting it started but my standard hi-tork starter turned over just fine. The needle valves needed some minor adjustment and then everything fell into place. I was limited to propellor size, my local HS only had a 16x4 apc so I bought that. After about a half a tank of fuel I tached it and got 9000 rpm's. The throttle response was the best I've seen or heard in a motor. With only one tank of fuel it's running great. Hopefully I'll have some inflight info for you guys by next week. Right now if it continues to run like it is, I'm sold. My glow engine's will be on ebay. Oh, and one other thing, it appears to be incredibly fuel effiecent.

RE: Kalamazoo AIR ZOO: FREE ADMISSION 2010
I as well have been many times and will continue to go. They have a great facility and they actually allowed me to climb on there p-39 for a detailed photo shoot. They are really a very freindly musuem. That has been changing a little in the last few years with the building of the new hanger and cancellation of the airshows. They don't allow visits to the resoration hanger unless previously arranged anymore so alot of there aircraft you don't even get to see.. I do think they could fit more in there new building than what they do. People come to see aircraft, not floor paintings. But with all that said, they do keep there stuff in top notch shape.

I bought the rcgf 20cc rear induction engine to try on the fury. I've got the engine hung sut of course winter is here and I am not in a huge hurry to go out into the cold and try to break in an engine. There's still alot to do on the plane since I removed all of the electronics (was going to sell but the gentlemen backed out after I removed everything ). [:@] Anyway, I'm hoping this new engine improves the performance and reliability. I had a very worn 91 fx in it.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound bitter. They really do have an excellent facility and do keep there aircraft in presteen condition. I'm just a big fan of the cats and there are very few places where you could go to see all of them in one place. I'm still not sure why they felt the need... of the cats and the corsair is my favorite.

I guess that i'm not aware of the p-38 that they have and also they might as well change there name since they sold there bearcat and tigercat. Probably to pay for all the jets they seem to concentrating on. who knows when they'll sell the rest of there cat collection.

It seems like forever since I've mentioned that I was working on one of these and it's finally flown for the first time. I've only got one flight on it so far but what little I did get to fly I was very impressed. It really seems like a smooth machine in the air. Hopefully I'll get some more flight time on it in the very near future.

RE: Royal-FW190A8
excellent job there. It's feels good after all is said and done. Definately alot of work but in the future if anything happens, as does with tail dragging warbirds, a new one is just around the corner. Also, not sure how you plan to mount the cowl but I've inserted metal between the layers where the screws are going to go through and this system has taken a beating on my bearcat and the holes never get any bigger. Just curious but if you were to make some extra cowlings for other people, how much would it cost? Thanks Jim

RE: looking for someone who can print modelcad plans
Here's the problem with this system. I have access at work to a plotter but we cannot find a program that can open these files. The extension is .cad and we tried several different programs trying to open the files ie.. autocad, tebis, etc... I have not had any luck in changing just the extension either. It appears that the only way to print these files is through modelcad itself. This is the version 2 modelcad. I will be updateing my cad software but was not planning on going with modelcad again and would like to be able to get this new set of drawing printed.

B-25J mitchell w/gun nose
I've decided to build the mitchell that I've been designing over the last few years. It will be powered by two 0s .61 fx's with robart retracts. the wing will detach at the dyhedral joint and hopefully will have a fully functional bombbay. haven't got that far in the design process. Just the basic frame up for now. Will get to the details as I go. This is my first twin so hopefully it won't be a failure.

RE: Top flite seafury build and kit bashed tempest
Well I have decided to reengine the seafury. I've decided to drop the whole glow idea and go with a zenoah g-20. Has anyone used one of these on a topflite kit as of yet and how did it work out? Did it fit in the cowling or did you have to cut some holes? The idea here is to not cut anymore than I have too. I'm trying to go gas as much as possible with my aircraft. The glow fuel is just such a pain in the @#$ when it comes to paint and protecting it. So if anyone has maybe done this conversion I would like to know how it went. Thanks

RE: 28% edge 540T kit
I ended up getting the wild hare edge 540T a few months ago. I havent' been to active on the site lately but I ended up stripping the covering for my own scheme and installing the g-62 up front. The engine fits nicely inside the cowling with no extra holes to speak of(as of right now). I sent the engine off to have a electronic ignition installed be rc ignitions and they did a fantastic job with it. Right now I'm in the stages of painting the cowling and canopy decking. This was also the first time I fiberglassed the canopy in place on a model as well.

RE: Vacuum form a clear canopy!
I don't have any photo's handy right at the moment but I made the a square holder out of 1/2" angle iron and I pinch the plastic between it and a flat top piece of steel. This seems to work well and doesnt' get affected from the heat of the broiler. The rest of what you know is right, You'll get the feel for how much the plastic has to droop with trial and error. different thinkness plastic forms differently so make sure you get a little extra.

RE: 50cc Edge V2 has landed
I haven't taken any pictures of the bottom side as of yet. It's a basic block type look to tell the difference during rotations. The top I'm still up in the air about. I want to airbrush a dragon ripping through the covering but I'm not sure of my skills in that department yet. I will most likely try.

RE: 50cc Edge V2 has landed
Mine's getting close to being finished. I've got most of the trim work done and I put the base color on the turtledeck and cowling. I'll be installing a g-62 with electronic ignition from rc ignitions in arizona (did a fantastic job). I've found that if I rotate the engine just a little to the right, I won't have to cut any extra holes in the cowling to fit it, this also allows the exhaust header to flow straight back into the canister tunnel which will house my own muffler ( which is not done yet but I hope all goes well with it). My only concern is the uneven weight distibution but I'll put the rudder servo on the opposite side along with both battery packs so hopefully this will not be to much of an issue.
