RE: Kangke Cap 232 60 Breitling Q
Mine still has the wood pushrods. That is really surprising. Try an aluminum engine mount (if you haven't) and switch out the gear for aftermarket (get good heavy duty ones. Mine are bent but functional so it is wise to change out anyway. Try dubro wheels instead of the light foamy things it came with. just thoughts so take with a grain of salt. Eric

RE: Kangke Cap 232 60 Breitling Q
Holy cow! 1.5 lbs?! I am running a Magnum 120 FS and had to move the battery WAY BACK to get it to balance. I think it is pretty comparable in weight. Surely not a 1.5 lb difference. It flies really well but is touchy without expo but totally what I would expect from a Cap. Eric

Good thoughts on the 8.5. The oldest is just about 11 so speed is not the most desired end for dad.[:D] Thanks for the input. Eric

RE: ezrun brushless
I folks. I am much more of a plane and heli guy but have two Rustys for my boys and I to bash around. I have replaced one Titan with a brushed motor at my LHS. I am really intrigued by these systems for our other truck. We are not looking for massive speed. I like the idea of no more brush/com work mainly! This is what I think is the best solutions. Please share thoughts or comments. 35A 13T or 10T should be drop in correct? 35A 9T or lower could work but may need gearing changes, correct? 60A 13.5T or 17.5T could be used easily. 60A 8.5T could also be a good option. Any thoughts or comments? Thanks folks!! Eric

RE: AKM SU-27 Flanker-Does Look Good
Well I hate to steal Jodini's thunder but his beautiful Su 27 has flown!!! Here are some pics. Much bigger versions can be found at www.omahawks.org Go into the gallery and open the Misc 2007 file. Joe did a wonderful job on his with help from a VERY talented and skilled friend, Dean Copeland. Dean also had the pleasure of doing the maiden flight. The windwas gusty but he made it look really smoothand easy. Enjoy. Eric

RE: Which Team Orion SV2..
Weighed my options and went with the Speed Gem Pro Titanite from Trinity as it was at the LHS for just over $30, it is fully rebuildable and has ball bearings. Pretty much the same as the Orion just available locally. With the stock gearing it has a bit less imediate punch but is way faster within the first few yards all the way to top end than the Titan 12 is on a 6 cell 3300 mAh pack. A friend with much more car experience says we can dial it in better with some pinion gear swaps but I am actually very happy with it as it sits now. He has some 7 and 8 cell packs too and we may rig up a deans to tamiya conncetor to see just what this little guy can put out. Would like to hear if anyone uses the Orion motors as well. I am sure our other Titan will crash soon enough. May have to get one of the Orions and do a little side by side testing. Eric

I like the idea of being able to re-build. Timing is not an issue. We have the stock Traxxas XL5 ESC which can not handle timing. Might just be worth it then. Eric

RE: Which Team Orion SV2..
Hmm, that brings up new questions. Do the BB make a huge difference? I would assume better performance but more importantly do they last longer/less maintenance? These trucks are for fun so not after all out performance. trying to balance solid performance with decent longevity and reasonable cost. The Titan 12t motors were plenty fast for my son and a need for more speed was not a fun limiting factor for me. I would like something that he can run during the week with little concern from me that he will hurt it while I am at work. I would think he will very easily double or triple my run numbers once he is out of school. He can handle blowing it off with air and oiling the bushings at the end of the day and I can do any more invovled maintenance a few times a week or on weekends. Great inofo guys and thanks for jumping in. Eric

RE: Which Team Orion SV2..
I picked up the trucks at christmas. We had unseasonably warm weather for two weeks and we ran 10-15 packs on each before winter set in. Got a couple runs in March on nice days, maybe 5 on each. It is finally not raining or snowing all the time here in Nebraska so we started in again. We noticed his was slowing down and now runs like it is in th 50% mode all the time. I would estimate 25 packs at the most on his. Mine is pretty much the same but running strong as ever. I ran them exactly the same when we got them to try and break them in per the manual. We have two 3300 packs and two 3000 packs, all NiMH. Guess the Titan is not nearly as bullet proof as the rest of this truck. Eric

RE: Which Team Orion SV2..
Perfect! Thanks for the advice. Man there is a lot to learn with these trucks. Put me in a nitro plane discussion and I am good to go. Over here I am at a total loss. I picked the Orions as my LHS has them and the are cheap but seem to be well liked in these forums. Open to other options too if one is substantially better but not substantially more expensive. These trucks are for fun only. Eric

Which Team Orion SV2..
Which of these Orion motors would be best for a Rustler XL5? I am a bit confused as to which the XL5 ESC can handle. The manual says 550 can 12t or 540 can 17t. Team Orion 12 Turn Double Formula SV2 Pro http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJAJ9&P=7 Team Orion 15 Turn Double Formula SV2 Pro http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJAK2&P=7 Team Orion 17 Turn Double Formula SV2 Pro http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJAK3&P=7 Have one for my 8 year old and one for me. His Titan 12t has burned up so time for replacements. Mainly bashing on the street/yard and some on a local track. No racing or need for insane speed. Thanks folks! Eric

RE: Stampede motor given up after 3 months...
Almost the same boat as Luis1972. I picked up two of these at christmas at the LHS. One for the boy and one for me. Weather only allowed maybe 15 runs on ech until this week. One of them is running like a total dog and the other is still zipping right along. I mainly fly nitro and know basically nothing about electric. How can you tell if it is dead and can you re-build them or just throw in the towel and replace with better? Thanks folks. Eric

RE: How do you power your smoke pump???
tkilwein, You don't happen to have any pics of the install or layout? I run a sullivan skywriter and a home brew windshield washer pumpset up as well. The skywriter is a snap with a second battery but my home brew is more work to set up as it uses a pinch screw for flow control. The idea of a cheap GWS control to alter the pump speed sounds really slick. Thanks! Eric

Rusty Tire suggestions Please...
My 8 year old has been completely and totally enjoying his new electric Ruslter XL-5. Being as we are not close to much in the way of off road areas for him to drive in he has mastered curb jumping. His stock tires are starting to show the effects from street driving and I want to get him a second set of wheels/tires. He can change wheel sets on his own. Please suggest combos that you have tried and liked. I am most concerend with longevity for driving on and offroad combo and a replacement tire set for offroad use only. This is a basher truck but he does want to drive on the LHS track too. Onroad/grass tires Durable wheels Offroad tires (for his old wheels) Thanks folks! Eric

RE: What is a good charger for truck/car packs?
Thanks U-dud. I did not think to specify but I have two 3300 NiMH 7.2v Venom packs to get him started. I use mainly NiMH in my flight packs and chose these pretty much blindly at the LHS as they were in the middle of the cost range and the kid behind the counter uses them and liked them a lot. Depending on how they work out I will make decisions on more packs. Likely to stick with NiMH for the forseable future. Eric

What is a good charger for truck/car packs?
Picked up an electric Ruslter for my son for Christmas. I fly and have no experience with the ground stuff. I mainly fly nitro with some electric and have no idea how to compare all of the charger options for the ground stuff. My son is 8 and can handle plugging in and turning on my Accucycle Elite. I would not want him setting it up yet though. I see the Triton 2 and ICE mentioned a lot in the forums and think they are likely great but not sure he is ready for them yet for the same reasons. Does anyone have opinions on a simple to use charger for NiCD/NiMH packs? Li ability would be a plus but not needed just yet as we are a long way from the high power electric setups right now. Mainly something that will charge fast that he can run if I am at work. I am sure I will end up with a truck too so I am willing to spend more to avoid outgrowing the charger. Thanks for any input folks! Eric

Evolution 1.00 or ST G90?
Has anyone flown each of these? I have a nearly completed GP Super Skybolt (Kit, NOT the ARF) and am considering both. Please keep comments to these two engines. I have ruled out OS, and four strokes for the sake of this question. Factors I used in my decision: Cost Reliabilty Power (they both should be more than adequate) Ease of use/tuning Prop range (the skybolt does sit a bit low on stock gear) Weight (actually not just the lightest needed as the skybolt does come in a bit tail heavy) Ease of finding a pitts or in cowl muffler Thanks to all with experience who can share! RE: RPM loss with smoke on
I have the sullivan skywriter on a Saito 91. I get a big drop in RPM if I leave the smoke on more than a few seconds. If I "burp" it no change in RPM. I have been told it is a combination of taking heat off the muffler and also the rapidly vaporizing oil changes fluid flow dynamics in the silencer and thus alters back pressure, exhaust flow etc. This makes more sense in a tuned setup to me as you are manipulating pressure waves to pack more charge in the cylinder. Any physicists out there? Waiting with much interest. Eric

RE: Four Star 40
Have gone through two four star 40 and am on my third. Have run everything from an OS 40fp, TT 46, OS 46FX, OS 46AX, OS FS70 and all flew great. The OS FS70 was really fun[:D] My current one is my everyday always willing to bang around plane. Good to learn taildragger on, solid intro aerobatics and very forgiving. The kits are easy and a great way to get into building too. I also have a 60 bashed into a crop duster with a smoke system. GREAT design and easily adaptable to many power systems. If e power is your calling check out RC groups. Several guys have electrified the 40 size. I have seen all the way up to the 120 electrified and they seem to work very well there too. Just my experiences. Eric

RE: list of planes suitable for 25cc conversion
Hey guys, I have a HEAVILY modified 4*60 with a power problem. It has been bashed into a crop duster look alike with smoke system. I have a mag 91 FS in it running Magnum 1 fuel (approx 20% nitro). I have solid performance but little emergency reserve. The thought of a bigger glow engine is not appealing as it would just need to carry more fuel and negate most fo the gain IMHO. Plus I think I could get better smoke from a gasser. Do not have an all up weight but will look tonight. Here is how the stock version (mine is easily 2 pounds heavier) compares to the stock 4*120. 4 Star 60 Recommended Engines: .60-.75 in³ (10.0 - 12.3 cm³) 2-Stroke Glow .65-.90 in³ (10.7 - 14.8 cm³) 4-Stroke Glow Wingspan: 71 in (1803 mm) Wing Area: 920 in² (60.3 dm²) Wing Area: 6.388 ft² Weight: 7 - 8 lbs (112-128 oz) Wing Loading: 17.5 - 20.037oz/sq ft Length: 57 in (1448 mm) Estimates of my bird: Weight: 9 -10 lbs (144 - 160 oz) Wing Loading: 22.54 - 25oz/sq ft 4 Star 120 Recommended Engines: 0.90-1.20 cu. in. 2-Stroke 1.20-1.60 cu. in. 4-Stroke Wingspan: 81 in. Wing Area: 1205 sq. in. Wing Area: 8.368 sq. ft. Weight: 10 1/2 - 12lbs. Wing Loading: 20 - 22.9 oz/sq ft Length: 65 in. My bashed 60 flies really well and will glide like a kite when deadsticked (read as run out of glow fuel having fun). I have three 4.8v packs under the tank (one for flight pack, one for smoke and one as dead weight) and the smoke system crammed as far forward as possible and I still needed a Higly heavy prop nut to balance so I have room to loose weight. I just happen to have a Homie 25 wacker that is seven years old and needs a new cutter head. Easy to convince the Missus we just need a new wacker.[:D] Do you think this is just too far over the top? RE: 9c quick charge problem
It uses a Futaba J plug. Only one way for it to go in. Also he had cables marked for Futaba. I was mainly wondering if letting a NiCD go completely dead like he did could ruin it so quickly. I always cycle mine and then pull them out to store them. Have never left one "on" to run dead. Mainly looking for my own curiosity as he is of course handeling his own radio etc. The magic smoke. Am glad I have never seen the magic smoke.[:)] Thanks for looking.

9c quick charge problem
Was just at my flying field and witnessed something odd. A fellow flyer had a 9c he had left on for several days and was of course dead. He then plugged it in at home on the Futaba wall charger. Left it for the normal time he charges packed up and came to the field. When he went to turn it on it was already on. He surmised he had left it on when he tried to charge it so of course he did not charge it. Now the odd stuff. He had a field charger so we helped him ( it was brand new)hook it up and plug in the Tx. Would not charge. We advised him to pull the battery out and try to charge it. The charger recognised the batt and started charging (700 mAh NiCD by the way). After a while I was flying and he pulled it off the charger and put it back in the Tx. I was flying so did not see this but he said he saw smoke! He of course yanked it out and packed it in for the night. So, Bad batt? Bad Charger? Any other guesses as I had never seen this type thing.
