RE: TBM Shock Jet
I am selling the landing gear and wheel / brake set from my Shokjet. This should be pretty much plug-n-play for anyone who wants to have brakes on their main gear. Just run airline down the gear legs and plug onto the nipples on the brakes. I already have airline holders going down each leg to keep it all tidy. These are 3" airpower wheels and disc brakes. They have very good holding / braking power. $100 shipped to you. PM if interested. I think I have some extra airline I can throw in if you need it. .

I would rather they spent $10 more for the non-folding wing with a spar that wasn't butt-jointed. :(
ORIGINAL: madmodelman John/Dave, pure conjecture on my part but I can see two interesting clues, in the rather poor vid it can cleary be seen that Red 4 did not switch off smoke, as far as we know did not Mayday to R/Leader or eject. I don't think he was actually flying the plane. Very fit people have been known to pass out for a myriad of reasons. Either way a great shame and loss, Gary.
Very interesting observations.

RE: Anyone sent a motor to Jet Central for repair this summer?
Dan: My understanding is that there are also other situations where the LTW may not apply such as if the second owner does pay the $250 transfer fee or if the turbine has already had more than 2 owners, etc. There is not a lot of fine print that goes with it, but there are a few restriction. I am sure Eric has the details posted somewhere.

RE: Anyone sent a motor to Jet Central for repair this summer?
Juan: Thank you for taking my call this evening. I understand that you will finally be shipping my turbine back today and will be sending me a tracking number shortly. As I mentioned on the phone, I am confused as to how you did not know that I had paid Eric two months ago given that Eric told me he was checking with you on the status periodically over the last couple of months. It is a rather strange circumstance and I am disappointed it took this much fuss to get an answer and that most the flying season has been lost. I look forward to receiving the motor. Thank you for your assistance.

RE: Anyone sent a motor to Jet Central for repair this summer?
Thank you. I have contacted Eric every 2-3 weeks since sending the motor in (most recently abut 10 days ago). He did not have any specific details, but told me that Mexico is very busy and motors are processed on a first-in first-out basis. That is why I was wondering what other people's times have been.

OK. Thanks. I sent a motor in on May 20th. I received an invoice for the repairs on June 23rd. I paid the invoice by credit card on June 24th. I still do not have the motor back. I was wondering if this was typical for the busy summer season or not. It seemed like an awful long time to me.

RE: TBM Shock Jet
It has taken me a while to get this posted, but a couple of weeks ago, the wing of my Shokjet folded in flight. At the time it folded, the plane was flying nearly straight and level. I was not in a high-G maneuver and have not yanked the plane around in general and pulled a lot of Gs with it. This happened at a club event in front of 50+ witnesses who can attest to the fact that the plane was not being flown aggressively. Immediately after the incident a few of the guys from the club who are builders inspected the wreckage including the wing halves. What they found was that the main spar had a butt joint in it located one bay outward of the center section. The butt joint was reinforced only by very thin ply. They said it appeared to them that the butt joint had failed cleanly at the joint. In their opinion, there never should have been a butt joint that close to the center section and it was only a matter of time before it failed.

RE: Regulator Switch - Beat this
The maximum load of the HobbyKing switch is 5 amp continuous. That seems a bit weak to me for anything running full size digital servos.
ORIGINAL: naval flight officer Tis better for your career to step down willingly than to be told to step down by someone higher up. I imagine that his superiors will see this as a strong leadership move and he will fare ok because of it. Honor, Courage, Commitment. I'm not a huge fan of the Blues but the CO shows that he possesses the three core Navy values to the letter. NFO
That is good to hear. My perception (as a civilian) of how the Navy handles mishaps, was that for every mishap a career had to be sacraficed to appease the public, press, gods . . . whatever. Depending on the nature of the mishap, sometimes that seemed just and other times horribly unfair.

RE: Futaba, or just 2.4, problems at Joe Nall?
ORIGINAL: ww2birds And now that JR has stepped up and fixed their RF link, Futaba should offer some tools to evaluate their link performance. Up to now their position has been that 'it just works' which is pretty much true ... But again, with what margin? Now that the other guys have what I expect will be an equivalent link, they'd better get going! Dave
Now Dave, you posted last year that you have never seen anyone at your club ever have a problem on Spektrum, so why would you try to imply their link was 'broken'? If it because some Spektrum equipped planes had issues at events like Joe Nall last year, then I would say that means Futuaba's link must be "broken' as well since some Futaba-guided planes went in last year and more notably this year. In any event, if I were flying Futaba gear I would sure want to be able to evaluate the performance of my radio just like Spektrum and Weatronics have offered for some time.
ORIGINAL: YellowAircraft What could possibly be more classless then kicking a guy when he's down (like after a multi-thousand dollar crash) with comments like 'that's what you get for flying Brand X' or 'I fly only Brand Y and I haven't had a single problem, so ha-ha.' And why are we doing that...because we fly the other brand?? I don't get it [&o]
In this case, I would say that Futaba brought it upon themselves with their classless round of attack ads and videos last summer along with a campaign to smear the reliability reputation of the JR/Spektrum gear. They drove the wedge and now paybacks are a bitch.

RE: Jet crash at the Nall ?
Looks like I stand corrected. The orginal DSM receivers do not transmit, but DSM2 receivers do. I have owned Spektrum gear since the original DX-6 and must have read those statements early on. I found a post from Paul Beard that does suggest a DSM2 receiver does give a signal back to the transmitter. The original DSM receivers do not have FCC IDs but the DSM2 ones do.

RE: Jet crash at the Nall ?
Before a couple months ago there was no DSMX, so I don't think all my DSM2 receivers were saying anything about that to the transmitter. I thought there was only one DSM2 radio that did 2048 resolution (the DX7se I think it was). I will accept that you cannot bind both receivers as you have described, but I wonder if there isn't a simpler reason why this isn't working other than the receiver talking back to the transmitter. I remember for the longest time people thought model match was the result of 2-way communication between the transmitter and receiver, but it turned out that Spektrum had simply (and very cleverly) given each model memory slot its own GUID.

RE: Futaba, or just 2.4, problems at Joe Nall?
ORIGINAL: Skaluf Hi guys, The jet crash that took place at Nall was caused by the radio installation under a metalized piece of plexi. The owner was advised against it, but a range check led him to believe it was safe to fly. Unfortunately it was proven to not be the case. Steve
Ya know what could have helped in that situation . . . some of those satelite receivers that Futaba likes to make fun of in their ads and videos about Spektrum/JR gear. Not so funny now I imagine. .

RE: Jet crash at the Nall ?
ORIGINAL: Moerig Would be interesting but could be difficult to do as it transmits in response to the TX transmitting only so seperating the two may be a problem on a SA. I would check the TX output pin on the IC for activity. In TX mode the CY chip uses a LOT more current in short burst as it sends its packets. But i COULD BE WRONG. I have this info only second hand right now.
Let me ask you this, what information is the receiver supposedly transmitting back to the transmitter? I can't really think of anything that the transmitter would need to know from the DSM2 receiver. The receiver needs to know the GUID which is the point of the binding exercise, but what does the transmitter need to know in return?
