Aren't you missing something, if the engine is hot enough to melt the mani it must have been so lean I imagine your piston is also melted or extremely burnt.

RE: What weight diff oil are you using ?
I took Adams advice on my basher LST, 10k front and rear and it works great for bashing, for racing I am sure you would play around with different weights but for bashing 10k is a good starting point and much better then the stock grease. Quick tip when using fluid always replace the seals, I used 2d's tip and got the 8ight diff seal set which is way cheaper then the lst set and includes enough to do three diffs and includes the o-rings.

When you turn the outside wheel travels further then the insde wheel so the diff allows it to turn faster to keep up with the inside. The thickness of oil in the diff controls how much faster the outer wheel can turn, thinner oil makes the diff more free and thicker oil makes it more locked, thick in the front will makes the truck push into the corner as the front will not want to steer, thick in the back will make the back drift as the back will not want to steer so will try and overtake the front. It has nothing to do with the 4x4 system and does not affect anything other then the way the car turns, although if you locked both diffs the car would have amazing traction as all four wheels would be permanantly engaged but the truck would hardly steer and at speed would probably not turn at all. Locking just the back diff can also make wheelies easier as one wheel cannot loose traction like it will with an open diff, but again steering will be very poor.

I will add this about buggy's, they are very, very fast with the right engine and with the right driver extremely fast round a track unless the track is very rough terrain with massive bmx style jumps they should leave most truggy's for dead, the handling and steering on a buggy is unbelievable. I used to have an RB powered xb8 as a basher and it drove so much like it was on rails that I found it no fun for bashing it pretty much drove itself and I have no idea how to set it up I just ran it as it came from the previous owner. But one thing thats seems to have been missed is that 1/8th buggys are without doubt the strongest racing class cars out there, they really do refuse to break, obviously a savage could survive a 40ft jump better but get an mt cartwheeling or rolling and bits fall off. A buggy will roll and flip and cartwheel all day normally land back its wheels and keep going. They can't however plough through long grass or drive across a ploughed field flat out like a truggy so they don't quite qualify as the best basher. Awesome fun though and due to being a bit lighter then a truggy if you can control one in the air properly they will literally fly, I know literally nothing about setting up a buggy nor how to control one in the air but I took my xb8 to a local small tight bmx track and launched it at the triple, I cleared the whole thing and landed some 8ft the other side.

What are you playing at putting those tiny wheels on the cen? the cen has some of the biggest wheels going, those are smaller then the stock lst wheels! of course it has killed your top end. The highest speed gear is now probably barely the same ratio as the lowest gear on the original wheels, just put the stock ones back, on can't see what is so hard to figure out?

I may be way off here but a comparison that immediately comes to mind is full size cars, yes there are some small engined high revving cars (mainly hondas) that go pretty fast, but most take a lifetime to get to their top speeds because they are relying on revs and not hp to get to their top speeds and if you slow down and then re accelerate it will bog down and take ages to pick up because at these high rpms the engine is not making much torque. Now look at bigger capacity, bigger hp sports cars, most will get to their top speeds much easier and because they are geared taller to make use of the power they have a lot of torque near their top speeds. I don't want to start any sort of war here and don't bother to start arguing about how your 1.6 vtec civic is faster then everything on the planet beacse the argument is worthless, fact is the fastest cars around have the most hp. For reference the only reason that manufacturers don't just fit massive 500bhp engines to everything is bacause in a real world car, not a drag car you need to consider, fuel economy, handling and space limitations.....

[/quote] Hands down one of the best engines ever fitted to any RTR cars and one of the best value engines around, I love my mach 26, and yes almost the same the sportwerks has a better carb though and the 427 I believe is a bit larger capacity and slightly different porting (although don't quote me on that, use the search to confirm this) all of them are great engines though.

[/quote] Sounds like the mach 15 that they put in some of the xxx-nt rtr's worst engine I have ever owned, bought the car with no compression fitted a new piston and sleeve and its never worked right and now less then a gallon on it loosing compression again. The new piston and sleeve hardly had any pinch even before run in!

There is a post floating around where 2dmax correctly states that the high speed gear set is in fact a close ratio gear set and will actually make the truck slower not faster, as said the only way to go faster is 8man pinion and delrin gears.

Jeez just because the block id the same don't make it the same engine, look at the automotive world, the chevvy v8 blocks and the rover v8 block have been used by many different companies yet some make 200bhp some make 1000bhp. The sleeve design and timing are what makes these things work a slight difference here can make masses of difference. Would I be right in saying that out of the golden lion blocked engines the LRP spec 3 is the most powerfull? would be cool to see a list comparing the different engines as some are harder to find in the UK and others are cheap and easy to find.

Urm you just posted a pic proving that the tyre treads are the wrong way round, the chevrons should have their 'points' facing into the rotation of the wheels, yours are facing the other way. The handling must be really bad with them on it right? the Jumbo kongs are even bigger can't think what they would be like!

Didn't we already have this discussion? lots of facts were posted to allow you to make a decision by yourself as there is no right or wrong choice, its what you want, the only thing that I will add is regardless of anything else if you want big the LST2 is much bigger then the savvy (if you want really big then get a genesis or nemesis, but thats a whole different ball game)

[/quote] the stock Picco makes 2.01 HP and 76 oz/in, XRC usualy only tests stock motors ...........the modded makes 2.3 HP and 85 oz/in................ for a buggy a .21 like a Jammin JPX .21 will smoke the .28's beleive it or not.....a motor like a Spec 3 really has a very poor top end compared to a race .21 when its in a light machine like a buggy...the Spec 3 is really a MT motor ( so is the Picco 28 ) MT motors make good power, but they lack the broad RPM range of a good .21 [/quote] What is better for truggy's then since they are not quite buggys and not quite mt's, I see a few more turggy specific engines are coming out now are they the holy grail or do the higher revving 21's still have the edge?
